I have yet to see the trailers but it sounds to me like the focus of this movie is on street-racing featuring import vehicles. I think this is a tradgedy but I understand why hollywood chose imports.
Ask yourself, what would the average movie-goer rather see: (1) flashy imports: turbocharged cars that make nice power, aren't too loud, look pretty cool, and of course, dont' forget that hot women seem to flock to imports -- this is true....OR (2) a 1,400hp doorslammer, coated in primer, ear-bleeding loud, driven by some guy in his 50s, no women allowed b/c there's only 1 seat, winding through the gears. Look, the truth is, 9- and 10-second street cars are pretty fast and i'm sure many imports can run these #s. However, the REAL street-racers, I'm talking about the true Saturday Night Shakers, these are 7- and 8-second no-nonsense machines built to race all-out and that's that. These cars pack 500+ c.i. motors w/ 600 horse nitrous systems or big BDS blowers. These cars are tubbed, run slicks only, and need a 'chute to slow down from their 170+mph trap speeds. Now, I think it would be great if hollywood did a movie about these cars and this kind of nightlife. However, I think this sort of thing would attract a very limited audience. You need the flashy car. You need a plot w/ younger kids. And, of course, you need the hot women. Such is life. Around here in Detroit, though, the real street racers I see run mid 7s w/ BDS-blown big-blocks backed by a built TH400 or 'glide, 9", wheelie-bars, and, of course, the venerable parachute. ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang ex-5.0 Coupe No engine.
