The German/Ford Merkur XR4Ti was a neat car; 2.3 turbo, quick with excellent handling and comfortable. Sort of a poor man's BMW.

Parts will be tricky to find in some areas of the country and any used car is a risk, especially an older one, but if the price is right, it looks good and doesn't seem to be a load, why not?

It might be a steal due to it's unfamiliarity that puts people off when actually, it's a good car but just didn't make it in the U.S.

Platform mate to the Mustang SVO. It's basically an SVO with a lot of options. The engine was the standard Thunderbird Turbo Coupe intercooled 2.3L I-4. Borg warner T-5 manual for the stickshift, rear wheel drive. You shouldn't have a hard time finding powertrain parts I wouldn't think. They were a little heavy for the I4 and a Mustang chassis due to all the extra's, but with 175hp that can easily be bumped up with a little extra boost to 220hp or so, they can give a 5.0HO a run for it's money in many cases.

I've worked on several. The most frequent problems were spark plug wires too close together, turbo by-pass valve sticking and coolant level switch dirty. great car. Buy it.

Take care,
