Default 93 LX Notch Help

I bought a 93 LX Notch a while back from a friend of mine. The story is that it was originally a police interceptor. It has holes in the roof dashboard and trunk that look like antenna holes and the car was painted black and white so i guess its true. Anyway the car has been modified by the 2nd owner. The 3rd owner the guy i bought it from told me what he could remember. Things ive been told modified on engine: 24lb injectors, eldebrock intake, bbk 70mm throttlebody and spacer, cam, lifters?, long headers, aluminum radiator, aluminum driveshaft, 4wheel disk conversion, axle and 3.73 gears, sub frame connectors, strut tower piece, king cobra clutch, new shifter. There is more but i cant remember. He said when it was all put together the car's fastest track time was 11.6 without nitrous. Its pretty damn fast but i havent ran it to hard because i dunno its limits and it sat a while, plus 2nd gear is worn out pretty bad. Anyway i forgot my point, brought it home for 3k, most people said i was dumb since the paint is down right ugly but its whats on the inside that counts i say. My point how do i know for sure if it was a police interceptor, what is a good way to find out what parts are installed, i can turn a wrench well but im not the most knowledgable about my car yet. Thanks for reading hehe

Look at the heads are they cast iron or aluminum? Are there any markings on the heads?

I seriously doubt the 11.60 1/4 mile time on motor if it is still a 302.

Take some engine pics and post up

The heads are iron and time was supposed to be 12.6 in the 1/4
Its 5.0 HO SEFI engine, has water lines running to the oil filter adapter for cooling dunno if that is normal on stangs. Cant get any pictures for a while dont have digital camera. Would a Carfax report tell me anything about my engine or just its history?

By tracing the DSO plate behind the drivers headligt. Its rivited to the radiator core support you can tell , Who, What When Where about that car.

Basically ford changed the rating system, and adjusted for some of the minor changes made in the previous years. All told you should see no more practical difference than you would between 2 same year cars.

ok i see. Ive been told that my engine was downgraded a bit from the previous years, just trying to get an idea on what i should do for future plans. I plan on either rebuilding it or swaping for something else, was kinda leaning toward 4.6 but would rather keep it as a 5.0 cause it just seems right cause of the reputation.

do not go 4.6 the 5.0 is so much easier to mod. and its just as or more reallible espesially in high horspower moters. 289<302

Thanks for the tip. From what i hear 302's are almost bullet proof and i already have alot of bolt on parts for it, dunno if they would work on 4.6

Im still running with stock ignition and coil, any suggestions on good upgrade. I had problems before with MSD on another vehicle but heard good things from others. Also wanted to ask do i have to change my clutch if i rebuild my tranny? its a fairly new king cobra was installed maybe 10k miles ago max.

I wouldnt call it bulletproof, but a stock 302 can handle a decent amount of power, and then there's "aftermarket" blocks you can get that are stouter and/or prepped and machined to be a bit tougher. Some examples would be the sportsman block, or something like a DSS level 10/20 block. You can also up the durability during the rebuild with things like main girdles, etc.

I've never used MSD, (I'm still stock too), but you rarely seem to hear bad things about them. Another alternative would be something like this which is basically and upgrade on the stock system.
And no, if the clutch and pp are in good shape I dont see why you'd have to replace them. It would be a good time to do the throwout and pilot bearing tho.

Im pretty happy with the power im getting right now, until i can get suspension tweaked, need new bushings all the way around and would like to upgrade front end. Unfortunatly i toasted my wife's escort tranny today so now i have to put mine on hold to find a manual tranny to swap for old crappy auto she has.
