Thermodynamics

Well, over a year ago this was the class that made up my mind not to be an engineer. But, I have 9 hours left to finish up my marketing degree now and have decided I want to go back and finish up engineering also.

It will be good in the long run, but Thermo hasn't gotten any easier. I have been sitting here trying to figure out one problem for literally hours

. I mean physics, calculus, etc. were tough, but for some reason thermo just kicks my butt. I understand all the concepts well in class, but working out the problems at home is another story. Just taking a break to vent a little!

I would have no clue! I made it as far as Algebra 1 and that was it for me! I am NO good at math and couldn't do that to save my life!!!

SOunds like your bieng distracted. If you can do the problems in class, but find it difficult to do at home, there probably something causing you to loose focus.

I LOVE PHYSICS, and Astro Physics.

Merc - I don't know that I am distracted.....just probably seems a lot easier in class when the instructor is walking through stuff step by step. I will make it through it one way or another, but it may be a long summer.....

BTW, the Simpsons are hilarious. I could go on quoting them all night

What is the problem?

I got an 'A' in thermo last semester. Don't ask me how. It had to have been because of the curve. I did study a lot for that class though.

Man, that is one thing I am not counting on.....a curve. Usually you can in classes like Thermo, but there are only 4 people in my summer class so I am not sure how the grading will work.

I got problems from the other night figured out, but new ones keep coming. Just a lot of different units and tables to keep straight. Problems that look the same may be nothing alike at all so it gets frustrating. Oh well, what can I do

I agree with you, keeping units straight can be VERY annoying, as well as using the numerous tables. But you gotta love that moody chart

friction factor, reynolds numbers, loss coefficients. Its just all one big party

For me, it was the math courses that steered me away from engineering, thermo was no problem. I was great at math when it was all numbers, I was good when it was numbers and letters, I was still surviving when it was only letters and differentials but when they replaced the letters with subspaces and stuff, they lost me.
Part of that is my attention span though

Well I'm glad i did not stop Engineering when I was taking Thermo! Of course I'm a mining engineer and only had to take one Thermo course. Thermo, for some reason is either very hard or very easy. For me it was very hard. I found Fluid Dynamics, physics, calculus easy, but Thermo kicked my a**. But I hung in there and I finished, so can you. Just Don't ask me for help, or you might not make it through

Back in the dark ages, these same problems existed. To get my undergraduate degree, a BS in biology, I had to complete a 5 hour calculous course. It was a *****, and was one of the few C's that I ended up with in college. It took a lot of effort to get the C (that, I hate to admit).

In dental school, neuro anatomy, again ate my lunch. It too took a great deal of effort to get a C. I did have to pass the course to complete the degree. I did complete both of these courses with lack-luster performance, but still ended up in the top quarter of my class in each situation.

I guess the point of this long diatribe is that nobody excells in every aspect of a given academic pursuit. You can excell in the end result.
