Trans code AND a poll!!
Whats the name of the 3 speed auto ford put in alot of these early stangs? And where would one find more info on them, such as how reliable they are and how much power they're good for?
The poll is just for fun, trying to get more people to look at my threads |

It's probably a C4, which is a good transmission. The only problem is that it's a 3 speed. I prefer more gears, and would research installing a 5 speed manual tranny, but that's just me. With a shift kit, a C4 can provide lots of driving fun.
Take care, -Chris

i still have my C-4 trans. runs great with 79,000 + miles on it. has a minor shift kit and some small things done to it and every time it shifts it kicks the car forward and all you see for a second is sky. Sometimes i think a nice manual trans would be nice but my good old C4 just keeps on going.

It don't mean much if you ain't got no clutch.
I've driven manual trannys all my life, and I wouldn't know what to with my left foot (or my right hand ) if I was driving a slush box. Just thought I'd spice it up a little Go with a T-10 all the way. If it worked for Carroll and Larry, it ought to work for whatever you throw at it.

I doubt the factory is good for for much hp completely stock. You can get a B&M or TCI C4 street tranny for like 750 though and I think they'll handle about 450 hp. Just a straight swap.
