Street racing at its finest!
Last night I was bored and thought I would go out to the street racing spot we have out here is is called "9 mile". I was shocked to see all the cars going to war not just your everyday stang vs. camaro. There were 2 Z06 Vettes a Dodge Viper and an awesome looking 55 chevy dragster on top of that there were about 30 stangs 30 or so camaros and a few brave ricers.
I wanted to see one of the Z06 Vettes race the Viper or the 55 dragster but right when the dragster was lookin for a race. Here came the sheriffs department and all the fun was over I didnt realize that the Z06 was such a bad @ss. There was only one Z06 Vette when I got there and when a second Z06 pulled up. The ford boys looked nervous, and the chevy boys looked proud. ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. best 60 ft 2.14, best 1/8th 9.65, best 1/4 15.2 @89mph |

There were probably some low 12 second and 11 second Mustangs out there that could of shown the Z06 up. Every Muscle car hang out has at least one or two 11 second or lower Stangs.

There were like 7 or 8 stangs out there with the s trim. So no doubt there was some worthy comp for the 1/4 mile, but it looked more like 3/8 mile than the quarter.

I don't know, maybe I'm just shooting from the hip here, but doesn't this story bother anyone? I mean it's a good story.
I'm talking about this: Dodge has it's Viper, Chev has the Z06, and what do we have? I know, I know, we have the Cobra R, and we can build our cars to be just as fast if not faster (which is good for us guys with lower cash flows). But won't it be cool to have a stock FORD product that could keep up with these almost "exotic" cars. I mean other than the ultra-super-rare Cobra R. I guess we have the Saleen S351 and the Stage 3 Roush. But those cars are just as rare if not more so. I don't know, just a small, quiet rant... Good story though |

You make a worthy point and dont get me wrong I love the Z06 vette and the Vipers but they cost a butt load of cash.
Although most of the guys looked scared of the comp. Some of them wanted to tally up a win over a Z06. ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. best 60 ft 2.14, best 1/8th 9.65, best 1/4 15.2 @89mph |

But I just think it would be nice to get a little more respect for our cars when there stock, not all mustangs, I would just be nice to say, well the stock Cobra (or Mach 1 or whatever model) can blah blah blah and hand your viper it's *** , you know? Mind you I guess I still love the whole concept of the mustang, Affordable power!Ya Baby Ya! |

Give me 70 g's, I'll buy a new gt for $24,000
I'll take the other $46,000 that I save buying a mustang and not a viper, I'll put that 46 thou in my new mustang with 281 cubes and we'll see who will win a race, wheter it be at the strip or the track. |

Funny that you mention a Viper. I stopped by a local car show that is hosted here in Lutz every Saturday night. Yes there were a half dozen 10/12 sec stangs, I felt very proud! Then there was a row of Turbocharged G-nationals. Of course there was the extremely sup'd up vettes, but then the mother of all...99/00 Viper GTS(blue with white racing stripe)with a 300 shot sitting in the back. Producing 900hp at the wheels. But when we all had thought that we seen it all, a (didn't ask what year)but looked fairly new, but not brand new Supra showed up in all its glory and 915hp to boot. G-reedy racing or something like that! I almost got motion sickness sitting inside the damn thing!(at idle) and no, they did not race. Parked on opposites sides of the lot.

yep, vipers, and i seen a 95 Zr1 vette, beatiful car, the guy claimed low 11's, but i was proud to watch an 86 GT roll bye with a rumpidy cam, welds, and a vortech whine coming from under, those vette guys start looking scared, and dont get me wrong, i love the viper, and mopars, but there is a guy down my road with a 99 t/a with heads, cam, grs, 75 shot, and he hands the viper his a$$ everytime he wants to go, of course the ls1 goes mid 11's on the nos and e.t streets.

Yeah, a car may be fast, but 90% of it is the driver. I witnessed first hand a guy in a brand new Z06 run a 14.1 last weekend. After he ran, they had to send a cleanup crew to the end of the track to pick up paper that flew out of his car b/c he had both windows down!!! I think that was his only pass that night.
I live in Bowling Green, KY, where they make the Vettes and I see them every day and every Saturday night at the track. Lemme tell 'ya, I have only seen a handful that can run better than a high 13. Only a handful of drivers can actually drive hte damn things. |

LOL, thats ironic, i didnt think anyone would beleive me, but i seen similar cases, a non z06,98-01 vette ran 14.1 but at about 102 mph, so he had a low 13 car, just couldnt drive, i wanted a piece of him, but he only made one pass.

I'm not saying that the mustang should become one of these cars, that would suck. But just have ONE model be able to compete with them stock vs. stock, and have that..."class" factor of a viper or Cobra R. Once we talk Modifications and modified performance, ...all you need is a GT, a few grand and a track to prove yourself. |

There is a local auto 97 vette that races at the 1/8 mile strip here. He runs consistent 8.90s-9 flat. That is SLOW. He's not spinning either. Probably like you say he just can't drive.

What I like about the Z06 Vettes and Dodge Vipers is they are a bad *** sports car. To me they look cool as hell you can fit tires as wide as a 305 or more on the rear, they come with an aggresive stance and not only have straight line speed but handle extremely well from the factory. They run low 12's in the 1/4 and still can go damn near 200mph.
I think that ford needs to come out with a low 12 sec. 200mph sports car. If you are a ford guy and have a lot of money you are not gonna buy a stang and make it run as fast as a viper cause well it will still only be a stang.and everyone and there brother has one The Viper and Z06 are the top of the line dodge an chevy and a statis symbol for there owners. If It was up to me instead of making a "cobra" that is really not much faster than the mustang. I would offer the cobra with a 460 big block with about 500hp!! and kick som Chevy @ss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. best 60 ft 2.14, best 1/8th 9.65, best 1/4 15.2 @89mph [This message has been edited by 5.0 HO (edited 06-05-2001).] |

Ok so what U want to get into a money competion and what someone can spend to make a care fast. Ok tell me this how many six and a half second imoprts are this in this world. None that i can think off. NOw how many six and a half second amercian cars are there. You can take any ford and put a 812 cid ford into it and run sixes will u ever do that with an import i think not. I don't care if u spend a million dollares on the thing. U can't do it. There are also lots of chevys that run sixs too. Look at the 4 second cars they are american. are there andy four second imports hell no enough said.

Not that I am trying to argue but there are 7 sec. imports thats not to far away from a 6 I do think someone will make a 6 sec pass in an import soon.
And there is a 4 sec.Top Fuel dragster with a subaru motor (seen it on ESPN a couple of months ago) With a million dollars you could make an import run a 6 sec. pass no doubt IMO Seems to me that you are making the arguement that there is no replacement for displacement. That might of used to been true. On speed vision they had Kenne Bell on there a while back and that dude has a 68 camaro with 4 turbos on it. That motor looked like a big twisted knot of steel tubing. I think if you took a Nissan Skyline and gave it to liggenfelter or Kenne Bell and said I bet you that you cant make it run 6 sec. in the quarter. Just my guess but I bet that they would prove you wrong. ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. best 60 ft 2.14, best 1/8th 9.65, best 1/4 15.2 @89mph |

Hey, 90dpscoupe, I doubt that 102 = low 13's. Just my thought, whether he could drive or not.
