Question Could someone give me their opinion on this?

I'm in the market for a 1990-93 Mustang hatchback. I've read the opinions on them and it seems that the '90 and '92 Mustangs are not the most liked but the '91 and '93 are.

Could anyone here give me an answer?

If anything people don't like the 93's. People stay away because of the hypertectic pistons, and a so called HP drop.

Lightbulb Mustang differences

Little difference between 1990-93 Mustangs other than the slight HP drop in '93 and the loss of forged pistons for hypereutectic pistons.

1991 went from 15" '10-hole wheels to the 16" 'pony' wheels.

The later models had slightly better sound systems.

They're all good, but I would look for a '91 or '92 as your best bet, however a '90 or '93 won't exactly be a loser, either. Basically the same car with minor changes.

found a 92 conv. for $4000 here. i'm itchy in the price. i would buy it but i'm not a conv. man. sigh. oh well. got until the end of summer.

also. what kind of gas can a mustang use without knocking? 87, 89, 92, 93? my friend has an F-150 with a 5.0 engine and he can use 89 without any problems. so i'm assuming that the mustang with a 5.0 should be able to do that same.

Lightbulb 5.0 octane requirements

The Mustang 5.0 is made to run on 87 octane without knocking. That's with a good running engine and 'factory' ignition timing at 10 degrees.

Most Mustang owners advance the timing to 14 degrees for better performance but that requires higher octane gas; usually 92, minimum.

How come no one ever mentions the '89's? I guess maybe if you absolutely have to have an airbag you wouldnt buy one but i like not having one. The 90-93 steering wheels are really ugly and the 89's were the last year for the tilt column. I have been told 89's were the best year but i they are all basically the same from '89-92 i believe

Later,
Nick

not that i don't like the 89 but i want a newer year. BUT. i have found an 89 mustang with 80000 miles on it for $5000. not bad if you ask me. i'm tempted. course the parents want me to get something newer or keep my truck. but i want a stang. tired of not having the HP and a vehical i can't upgrade. don't get me wrong. i love my truck but a 2.3 4 banger just doesn't give me the expandablility that a 5.0 V8 would. and i just want a car.

You found an 89 with 80k for $5000 and you haven't snatched it up yet? That's a steal. Your parents want you to get a newer car, but agree on a 90 and not an 89? Yeah an 89 is soooo much older, lol, I loved my 89.
