Post 1998 Cobra - Test your mustang knowledge, guess how fast i'll run 1/4 mile

Here's another poll for fun, i'm going to try to run my cobra this weekend. It's a '98 cobra stock except for generic performance mufflers, K&N and air silencer removed on stock cheap 17" tires.

Guesses - i would like to get a 13.99 at 100 mph - but i question my traction and weight of the car (fully loaded).
Pacific raceways - 600 ft elevation (i think) in Kent, washington (state)
about 25+ miles from seattle.

I'll post my times after a week, maybe two.

I ran an 8.6x with the 03... not that good, but it was only the second time at the track... tire do make a difference... so do mods!

hehe I'm sure they would just have it clean no mud to fall off an all that good stuff =P.

One night my father entered his 98 durango in my bracket class just to show me that he had never lost a race. I was calling B.S. the whole time; but sure enough (I will take a picture of the trophy to prove it if you like) he put a 10.64 on the window an won the race. It was a 25+ or so car field of 6-8 sec cars.

needless to say, he made his point lol

Hmm.. I think I ran a 14 flat at almost 102mph(from memory) with the 97 Cobra vert I had so... I had cheap rear tires too but it was at sea level.. My guess is 14.19@101.69mph. I think the 98 cobra was a little stronger than the 96-97. I hope you broke in the 13s though.

OK here's the results from arrival to finish:

with my girlfriend in the car fresh off the freeway:
2.260 60'
9.163@79.06mph 1/8 mile
14.076@100.96mph 1/4 mile

2nd run, lots of wheel spin through 1st and into 2nd:
2.465 60'
9.474@79.10mph 1/8 mile
14.352@102.12mph - lost to a late 90's camaro who ran 106 mph

3rd run, deliberately bogged off line to keep from spinning tires
2.311 60'
9.110@80.08 1/8 mile
13.921@103.40mph 1/4 - beat a late 90's camaro

4th run, same as above - hot lapped
2.257 60'
9.028@79.94 1/8 mile
13.843@103.41mph 1/4 beat a purple/blue firebird with ls2.com sticker on his windshield.

I'm happy with the results , i know with slicks and gears the cobra would run ALOT quicker especially since i crossed the finish line in 3rd gear each time. Thanks for all your support....Man i love racing

Good job dude! Knew it was going to be high 13's. Yeah get shorter gears and a pair of slicks and it mid 13's for you buddy! Getting a pair of AFR heads soon, so I will be running times close to yours.

I also checked I'm a member on that site (my last car was a modded 98ram air Formula). Iwas gonna post a question about it but there is no regional section for the northwest.

I ran him last, i believe he was part of a car club because he had a 4 digit number (7616), i was number 595. his car ran 2.434 60', 9.797@78.30 1/8 mile, and 14.714@100.86. I thought those firebirds were way faster than that.

My second to last where i beat a late model camaro he ran 2.776 60' (ouch!), 9.944@78.05 1/8 mile, 14.861@96.71
It was the molded headlight (not 4 head light) stye, but i think this one ran slower than normal also.

Ok, I give up. What exactly is an LS2? I've seen stock LT1s run better times. Actually, those look like stock 302 #s.

OK an LS-2 is the motor GM came up with to replace the LS-1. The LS-1 had a 5.7 displacement, while the LS-2 is a 6.0. The LS-2's put out 400 hp from the factory. And 84LX89GT I dont know the elevation where you are at, but if the one you ran had an LS-1 there was some thing wrong. Mine ran a 14.1 in Albuquerque NM (5400 ft). I dont know the elevation where you are at?
