2002 Mustang Improvements
What have you heard about the improvements that are supposed to be made to the Mustang in 2002? Please include appearance changes, along with engine specs. and supposed 0-60 & 1/4 mile times if known..I had a 99GT and wasn't all that impressed. I got the pretty model....leather...automatic...etc...it was kind of a wimp. Does the extra weight of the seats, and it being an auto make that much of a difference? My best run was a 15.0 at 4500 feet. Not impressive!

I don't know what I was thinking! I am of the belief that I got somewhat of a lemon. Although, it worked for getting away from the law one night. Is the 2000 any different from the 99? And is the 2001 any different from the 2000?

Wht99GT
Ummm...I have a 2000 GT with a 5spd and have been able to hang with most of the GM boys. Tim C can contest to that because we ganged up on a suspecting 96-97 Firebird Transam, and we beat him with stock 99-2000 GT's. I test drove a auto before I test drove the manual, and the auto felt like it was....well..slow (no offense to your auto). So of course i bought the manual. Maybe your car is a mutant like the lizard Kings car is, but on the opposite side of the spectrum. ------------------ 64 1/2 Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, 3:1 rear gear. Mallory duel point. And to many others to list 2000 Perf Red Mustang GT. 5spd. 64 1/2 red 6cyl coupe. Auto. project car. [This message has been edited by Mercury (edited 12-30-2000).] |

Although I am a diehard gearbanger, automatic driven Stangs are not to be regarded as slow ponies. The last time I checked, Tom Payn's Lentech sponsored automatic SN-95 wasn't a slouch 11.66@116.

MERCURY:
No offense taken. I have since gotten rid of my car. I truly believe that I got a slower one, on top of being a dumbass for getting an automatic. I am planning on possibly getting another...maybe the 2002. No fancy crap this time....Last time I got auto, white(wimpy color) Mach stereo, leather...next time it will be a 5 speed and nothing cute................... |

My 2000 is an Auto (dealer had 4 2000's left, all automatics) but it flies. I gave my friend a ride the other night. (he has a Dodge stratus) and he said, "It's scary that they make cars this fast." It was the best complement Ive gotten so far. I'll be the first to admit that stick's are cooler, but my fully optioned stang is quite a ride. Im happy with it.

Wht 99GT
I'm sorry if I came off as a jerk. I'm sure you can make an auto fast. Hell my 64 1/2 coupe has a power robbing C4. What I ment was the new stang GT with the auto didnt feel as fast as the 5 spd version. The auto was quick, yes, but the 5spd felt a little quicker. Once again I'm sorry for sounding offensive. ------------------ 64 1/2 Red Mustang Coupe. 289, C4, 3:1 rear gear. Mallory duel point. My understanding is that bone stock auto's can run mid to low 14's. I know you only went 15.0 but your also at 4500 ft above sea level. Have you ever tried to convert that to sea level to see how it compares?

I may have been a bit rough (not say cocky), ... i just wanted to make sure you were not an import trying to pull a fast one.
15.0 for an auto at 4500rpm is slow. How long have you been draging for? My first time at the track with the stang I pulled a 14.2. --- best time of about 7-8 runs. It took me about 100 runs to get to 13.7. Also an engine with 3000 miles is slightly slower than one with 10000 miles. ------------------ Lizard King - 00GT >> 13.698 @ 101.2MPH - BONE STOCK, yes BONE(even air filter) stock. Ok! Here is the conversion. I ran a 15.0 1/4 at 4500 feet. It was my first time to the track (not making excuses)..I am still of the belief that my car was slow for a Mustang...speaking of, why is it that, if you post your true time (and it isn't impressive) and don't make something up, you are a sucky driver...while on the other hand, you can make up some b.s and be a hero. Anyway, this converts to a 14.1675. Every magazine that I have ever read says that the 99 does the 1/4 in 14.2.
LIZARD: You may have run that time, but I of the belief that you have an exceptionally fast car if you did that. |

If you check today's Motortrend and go to the back pages... they will show you a 99GT Coupe pulling a 14.0 @ 100MPH
Is you car convertible? That is .6 deduction right there. (by Motortrend) ------------------ Lizard King - 00GT >> 13.698 @ 101.2MPH - BONE STOCK, yes BONE(even air filter) stock. "I can do anything, I'm the Lizard King." - The Doors |

Hero? Non sense.
We are going to be posting an MPEG1 video (as soon as I can get my capture card back) that shows me doing these times. I have seen this summer another Silver 2000GT (manual) at Napierville posting this 13.69 bone stock as well. Open up your hood... your headlight is held by 2 clips. Thack these two clips (or brackets) out and your head light will pull out. RAM AIR as simple as that That should give you another .1 to .2 off. If you ran 15.0 on your first (and only run?) than that is not so bad. Ask everybody else... we all sucked bad at our first run. My reaction time was 2.2 --- now that is bad. ------------------ Lizard King - 00GT >> 13.698 @ 101.2MPH - BONE STOCK, yes BONE(even air filter) stock.
