I'm tired of "waiting" for my 5.0 Time for drastic measures

Well I've thought it over for a while. I don't really wanna save for 2 years just to buy a 4500-5000 Fox body. So I'm thinking about MAYBE taking a 8-10K loan out and picking up a 94-95 GT 5-speed with relitively low miles. Should be around $170 or less a month for 5 years.(depends on the cost of the stang)

I would highly recommend NOT buying something you can't afford. Just think of it this way, if you get a loan, you usually have to have full coverage insurance (think of someone your age getting that), can you pay for the car, the insurance, repairs, let alone modifications (which you WILL want to do.....the need for speed is infecting). I bought my '89 GT for $1500 because the owner didn't want to fix an oil leak from the pan (he said it was the rear main, which it wasn't). and the car was already modified quite a bit, mostly with stuff i'd want anyways. You can almost always find someone who is willing to sell their car for dirt cheap or cheaper than comparable cars, you just have to talk to alot of people and bide your time (as hard as that is). You can probably find someone desperate enough to sell a 5.0L that's in great condition for as low as $2500 if you have the cash readily available and can take the car that day. Some people will take convenience rather than pinching every penny. Debt is a trap you don't really want to fall into especially at a young age....now if someone like a parent wanted to help you or you could post a good down payment, it's not AS bad, but it can still be a money trap. I personally don't like making payments on ANYTHING.

Words of advise

1)take your time on looking for that 5.0 Mustang,don't just settle on the first car you see or test drive.Make sure that your not getting a "lemon in disquise" as best as you can before any money changes hands.

2)I know your graduating soon,so with that in mind,don't get yourself in financial debt just for a vehicle,when you may have plans to further your education.

3)After you've read 1) & 2) and finally get that 5.0,whether it be sooner or later down the line,go out and enjoy the car

I agree with them if you can try to stay out of debt. It is nice not having a car payment over your head. Also banks don't like loaning money for a car that is older then 5 years.

Why don't you swap a 302 in the car you have now?

josh a 5.0 out of a junkyard with a rebuild would be cheaper,btw get a job first ya bum ,jk have you been junkyard hunting? or even just driven around looking for a car sitting in someone's yard,the other day in a 1 mile strecth ,i found a nova body,65malibu ,55 chevy & 67 chevelle vert body just sitting around,not that i wanted them, i will call a junkyard today for you & see if i can find a 5.0,deal!,l8ter

Matry: Are you suggesting buying a smashed 5.0 and fixing it up? I don't want a wrecked car, they are never the same after.

I bought my car for $1,700.00 stupid rich kid thought that the engine was messed up. After I bought it I did a tune up and the #4 spark plug wire was nearly burned in half.

I know a guy selling a mid 13 second fox body for $1,500.00. It has front end damage from a wreck but it is a great deal.

no josh i was talking about an engine not the whole car,i wrecked my car but it's ok i am still trying to find out about that 429 just give me time ,but you would really have to beef up your suspension,running gear etc ,but what a hoss you would have then ,l8ter. i would go with a 351 w myself,but that's jmo

You're right it did. The engine has 120,000 miles on it and the owner was a heavy line tech for ford and he was the cause of the problem. The bearings had lots of score marks but the oil pressure was around 30 at idle and it didn't have a knock. I could have driven it the way it was probably for another 20,000 miles but they did need replacement since one bearing was down to the copper with the score marks on that one journal. The oil pump was fine as well as the cylinders/rings, he just left enough scotch brite pad abrasive in the engine to put slight scoring into the crank. I had a crank laying around (the old crank was fine, i could've had it turned for $50 or even polished) and the bearings were $50 for the whole set of Main and rod bearings. The rod bearings were fine, it was just that the #2 main bearing was horrible, #1 and 3 were kinda worn and #4 and 5 were fine. I just happened to have pulled the worst ones and got pissed off. Any car that inexpensive will need work done to it, don't think i'm saying that you can get a perfect car for that price, but i did have to put a little bit of work and money into it, but i'm still well WAY ahead of what i would have payed for a car in equal condition without the leak.

1/2 of my friends that are in debt paying for cars right now found out that they have quite a few problems and they can't really afford to fix them.

My car is 90% re-assembled and shouldn't have any other problems since i've gone over the car bumper to bumper to see if he messed anything else up, but it looks good.

Most cars you find for a good deal is usually for a reason, but you can also find cars full price that have problems you can't forsee as well.

Do whatever you feel like doing, i was just suggesting alternatives.

Just for referace Marty, the 429 won't go in my car.

And by the time I swap in a 302 I could have bought one with a 5.0 already in it.
