Default I've only been a member for about a week but...

What I really like about this forum is the fact that there are few people cutting down other American iron. You people seem to be keeping it real in here. The long thread below regarding Autozoners and their ricegear was not surprising. I see the same thing at Checker, Pep Boys and other discount parts houses. The bad thing is the same type of performance items for Asian 4 bangers is available everywhere but for US 4 bangers you have only a few select vendors. One of the few places for Ford 4 bangers was Racer Walsh and most of the things had to be adapted to the later 2.3L. Headers, for instance, are not smog legal and I had to have O2 fitting welded in to place. I am also an air-cooled VW enthusaist and was happy to have the fastest 4 cylinder be a air-cooled VW powered rail at 202 mph in the 1/4 mile. It beats the hell out of any rice burner. The only Honda I ever owned had only 2 wheels. The thought of the 490 power Civic sounds like something to show the riceboys what a true hot rod is.

I currently own a '92 'vert LX with a 165 hp 2.3L, a '79 Malibu with a 250 hp 305, an '83 S-10 which is going to get a 350 V-8 transplant when the 2.8 V-6 finally dies, and a '73 VW Beetle which makes a whopping 57 hp and is about 75% restored.

See my Honda Civic post for my past hotrod projects.

I don't buy import anything, of course sometimes you can't avoid it with certain kinds of stuff.

As far as other makes of vehicles, I mostly hate the drivers

Welcome to Mworks.

I mostly bought the VW to build a baja out of but it was too nice to chop it now is a resto project. I do enjoy a few european cars such as the rear engine VWs. Ford now owns Jaguar so that's not too bad. Germany has a good reputaion for engineering but some have shown to be lemons. Italian cars put too much emphasis on styling and little on dependability. Some UK cars are about the same, all style and little dependability. My Great grandmother immigrated from Germany so I don't feel too bad for owning a bug. Heck they made them for nearly 30 years! To keep myself even, I have a "Bite me, Ford boy" sticker on my Chevy and a "Piss on Chevy" sticker on my 92 LX 'vert. I just am not too impressed with those "2Flat 2Delirious" cars. My coworker has one of those Accords with the "Fart Can" pipe. I always have the urge to add an "ian" to the end of Accord with a black marker on his car but I think against it. It'd be funny to see a Honda Accordian!

Just curious as to what you have done to the 92 LX vert to make 165hp? Did you put it on a chassis dyno to get that reading?

Thanks to the good folks at Racer Walsh I have installed a few items. Here's the short list, fresh air intake with K&N filter 70 mm MAF and a TB from a 5.0 (adapter available from Tiny Avenger Motorsports). In the head I have oversized valves, a slightly higher lift and duration in the cam, and the local machine shop ported and relieved the head. The headers were not smog legal and had to have a fitting welded in place to accommodate the O2 sensor. After all was done the local speed shop dynoed it at 164.94 HP. Considering the original advertised HP was 105, that's a big improvement.

BTW, VW never made a type 2 sedan, the type 2 is the microbus/transporter. Type 1s are either the Ghia or the Beetle. Type 3 is the Fastback and Station Wagon. Type 4 is the 411 sedan which are seldom seen.
