Cool Anyone running Futura Ultra Z tires from Pepboys?

What do you think of them? How well do they grip the road? Wet traction? I like to take corners out here in the winding roads of the Ozarks. Some strip time, too. I've gotten over 40,000 miles out of my current Dayton Daytona ZRs (constant rotations and tire pressure monitoring). They've still got some tread on them (the daytons) but they are slipping more than I like. I'm going to go with the 245/50ZR16 tire size over my current 225/55ZR16 tire size.

Before I swapped in a '95 5.0 in my '97 coupe--a former V6--I could lit the right rear with the 160 hp and the 7.7 rearend non traction lock. I had '98 GT five stars with Futura 225/55 R16. Although a BIG improvement over the 15" wheels, I'd recommend buying Nittos.

I've never gotten near 40,000 miles on a set of tires on my 5.0's.

I'd say if they were decent tires, why switch? That's excellent mileage, especially on a Mustang GT.

Cool

True. They have been excellent tires. I've got all my maintenance records to prove my mileage on the tires. I do alot of highway driving. I bought this car not quite two years ago with 14,300 miles on it (march 1, 1999). I now have 55,300 on it. Hmm...I guess I don't quite have 40,000 miles on it cause I put a couple thousand on the stock firehawks before I put on the Daytons. It's more like 38-39000 miles on them. Anyways, they've been excellent tires. I was just looking for a little bit cheaper priced tire. The Daytons were $128/tire (225/55ZR16)and the Futuras are $101/tire. I'm not sure the price of the Dayton 245/50s. I'm just considering my options. I may go back with the Daytons. I do alot of shopping on things before I make a decision. I like to know all of my options. I also really don't play much with the car. Rarely sees a burnout. Rarely. Constant rotations, about every 5000 miles, and constant monitoring of pressures. Right now I run about 34 psi up front and 30 psi in the rear. I don't remember my exact alignment specs but it's as aggresive as the stock "c/c" plates will get. Like -1 camber, 1/16 toe out, don't remember caster. Something like that. Now I wish I could remember exact specs. Guess I'll have to ask the guys at Saleen again. But, that's pretty close to what the specs are. I have to keep the tires rotated alot or else the insides will wear quicker on the front.

I run the ultra Z's and they hook really well. I don't use them at the track but I used to be able to spin all thru second and most of third on my yokohomas or what ever they were. Now I just spin second some. Wet traction is good as can be I guess. I like 'em.

I had them on my 95 GT ragtop. For the price they were a very good tire. The wet traction was a pleasant surprise. I had the 225/55/16s. They lasted over 40K miles, but I drove them pretty conservatively.

Take Care,
Dave
