Test drove a 2001 GT
All I gotta say is these are nice cars. I want one. If you get a chance go take one for a spin.
The salesman went with me and didn't act like he wanted me to get too crazy, but I took it about to the point where the tires were ready to break looses and seen a smile on his face ------------------ Gunning for 12's! My Stang Page Buy your parts here ICQ# 42269241 |

My friend just bought a new 01 gt convert and I was not that terribly impressed. It is an auto and needs more stall speed off the line. With some gears and a converter I bet then could be quick cars.

They may not be 12 second cars, but they are nice cars nonetheless. This car was an AOD as well, and I hate sports cars with auto's in them, but it was still a fun car to drive. The car felt like it was a lot bigger than it really is, and I kinda liked that about it. It's kinda weird. The non-functional hood scoop does nothing but get in your way though
I'm gonna keep my eye out for a 5sp and take it for a spin to see how I like it. I'm hoping to get one when year end clearence time rolls around ------------------ 1990 LX 5.0 - Gunning for 12's! Good luck finding a 5-speed GT. I have the largest Mustang dealership about 20 min away from me and they have 0 5-speed's on the lot. I talked to the guy and he said they are getting really hard to find. I figured they were getting rare when he didn't have any 5-speed GT's on the lot but he had 7 Saleens 3 Cobras and 2 Lightnings and a BUTTLOAD of Auto GT's. Lucky for me that my car is already built and just has to be shipped. Should be here within 2 weeks!! ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Ordered: 06/13/01 |

The 2001 GT Five Speeds are not as common as the 2000 and 99 Five speeds because production of them was hindered by the parking break recall and by the half way through the year change of the manual tranny T-45 to T-3560. Or so I've heard.
This is the first year that I've seen far more Automatic Mustangs than Manual stangs. Usually all I see is 5 spds. |

All I can say is good luck and I hope you have a lot of patience. I had six dealers in search of a 2001 GT 5-speed in Performance Red for me. They ran locaters all up and down the east coast and as far west as Mississippi and found one - it was in MD and was a demo w/ 4k miles! I had wanted that exact car for over a year and was sooo sick of my old ride-I just gave up.

i went to galpin ford last weekend, and they are the highest selling dealership in the USA. They took me out back and they had literally 150 mustangs all lined up! there were lots of cobras, rouches, bullits, and convertibles. I asked to drive a 01 GT 5-speed with the hardtop and they asked me "what color?"
they had about 40 different 5spd mustang GTs to choose from! i grabbed a black one and took it for a spin up the 405 freeway. That thing only had 86 miles on it (the engine is so new still) but it just pushed ahead relentlessly in 5th gear at 55mph! it pulls good all up and down the powerband im about to trade in my 98 civic 5spd EX in for this stang! there were tons of auto trannies there too believe me but i didnt even wanna touch them. auto tranny GT is like making a track star do the 100 meter dash in CRUTCHES! they defeat the purpose of a V8! might as well get the gasket-blaster 3.8 goto galpin they are in LA off the 405 at roscoe blvd. get an 01 gt 5spd! |

I think you might be confused about the dealership you are talking about. The one you are talking about might be the highest selling Ford dealer but it isn't the largest Mustang dealer. The largest Mustang dealer is about 20 min from Pittsburgh. They have been the #1 Mustang dealer for the last 3 years. The automatic isn't as bad as everyone thinks either. With a little work, they can hand a 5-speed its *** . ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Ordered: 06/13/01 |

Here is an email I received. These guys aren't far from me...
"My name is Chris Northway and I am the Internet contact here at Andy Mohr Ford in Plainfield, IN We have more inventory than anyone in the state of Indiana and I will do everything in my power to make this the best car buying experience that you have had. I have sent a map to you and our phone # if you have any questions." They know I'm looking for a 5 speed, red, Premium package, etc. I gotta go see this car if it's there ------------------ Gunning for 12's! My Stang Page Buy your parts here ICQ# 42269241 |

In my books that's pretty bad. Besides, I don't need to convince you, you're already replacing that AOD with a 5spd you have on order, hehehehe. |

I just meant that the AOD can be competitive too. In my 91, I had a stall converter and 3.73's and could keep up with most 5-speeds. I raced my friend's 94 Cobra and was even until 3rd when I looked over at him and saw him trying to find the gear! The AOD is alright but I need a 5-speed. And to further your point about $ to go fast...The 5-speed in my 01 didn't cost anything. If I wanted an auto, it would have been $800 extra. Paying more to go slower...just doesn't make sense to me. ------------------ 91 GT AOD: 14.71@91.78mph SOLD!! 01 GT 5-speed on order: Ordered: 06/13/01 |

Oh, I can certainly agree an auto can be made competitive, and the AOD can be a hell of a lot stronger built than any T-5.
It's all about the money though. For a street car, dollar for dollar, the AOD just can't match a stick car. |
