Post Insurance Rape (rant - long)

Just to start by saying I think Insurance Companies are STUPID. I am sorry if any of you reading this work for one. After getting out of school in december i got a pretty good job, saved up a little money and was wanting something to spend it on. A couple of my close buddies have a ski boats and jet skis. I have riden the jet skis quite a bit and was seriously considering purchasing one.

I work out of the town I live and my insurance company is. I had my father stop by the ins. office and check on what they had to offer. I almost s@%# down both legs when he told me what he found out. The quote he got was on a 97 model with 85 horses. The one I was planning on getting was a 96 model with 110 horses so the qoute would be unde what is actually is. the qoute I recieved was $714.56 dollars every six months. Thats more than my freakin stang.

I just wanted the cheapest I could get, just enough to be legal. But oh well huh live goes on

For the most part, they do suck... How old are you? That's a big factor, and did you check other places, too? Were they all this high?
I know that for my stang, I pay 400.00 a year, but for the Ninja I pay 980.00 a year!
But the Stang is not full coverage, and the Ninja is, because the bank still owns it...

That sounds a little off. In NJ where car insurance is really high I pay 2400 a year for my stang with full coverage and I have a perfect record(20 years old though). I was just looking into getting a 96 Seadoo with 120HP and it was going to cost under 400 a year insurance.

Ok so I am moving to NJ. That would be ok if I could hook up with Tony Sopranos daughter huh. I am 22, liability only on my 93' 4 banger is $114 a month. I had (before I totalled it) a 90 lx 5.0 it was $115 a month right after I got it for liability. I had a slight fender bender last april and my ins. went to $175 a month. In oct of last yeari totalled it and I put myself as primary driver on a 82 3/4 ton truck that we have as a work truck. It was $115 on it to but thats an old wore out ragged piece. I got this 93 4 banger 2 months ago and it is $115 a month.
I dont understand. My mother drives an 98 Intrepid, I checked on insurance for it and on a 94 gt before I bought my mustang. It would be over three hundred a month on either of those full coverage. Granted I have had the one fender bender but thats it. I am just tired of working hard for my money and being broke from ins. I see it like this if you can afford a toy you cant afford ins. But if you have to pay ins. you cant afford a toy.

Oh yeah my little bro is purchasing his first stang tomorrow. A 93 lx 4 banger with a slippin tranny, but he has the fever and there is no substitute for cubic inches.

Accidents do hurt. When I was 17 I got into an accident in my 91GT and it was my fault(not really, but they blamed me anyway). My insurance for my 92 GT Convert. was 5500 a year and it JUST went down to 2400 a year because I switched companies and they said they would take off the accident because they couldn't understand how it was my fault. I tried to get a 98 Cobra Conv. at that time and the old company wanted to charge me 9200 a year for insurance!!!! You should shop around and try different companies. I switched to Liberty Mutual from State Farm.

State Farm sucks. I can't understand why anyone uses them. Since my dad was an officer in the navy I am fortunate enough to use USAA. They're great. I once rear-ended a chick who tried to scam me for some money and USAA took her to court and won. My insurance didn't go up a bit. She cut in front of me and slammed on the brakes while I was looking to make a lane change.

Two Mustangs (teenage boys) with liability, a 91 Explorer, 93 F-150 and a 2001 Saturn. (full coverage on the last three, $1800 every six months. I could gripe but I feel lucky listening to some of these prices

you are looking for ins. for the jet ski, right?
why not just pay cash for the thing and not worry about the ins. is there a law that requires it or is it just the bank?

I did figure out what to do about the ins. I talked to the lady that owns it and she said use a company away from where I live that insures pleasure vehicles only(boats, vr's, jet-ski's). She gave the phone number and company name for the place she uses. She said her policy was $128 a year and it had three hundred thousand in accident coverage and three hundred thousand in coverage of death. There isnt a law requiring ins. on the jet-ski in ky, but if i dont have it and were to wreck it or hurt someone else then they could sue me for all i'm worth, which isnt much so they would then sue my parentsfor all they have. My mother chimes in in that ever so sarcastic voice that mothers have "Were not gettin sued just so you can have some fun on a jet ski". Needless to say in all the confusion the jetski sold before I could buy it anyway. No problem I recieved my manual on swaping a 460 into a late 80's Ranger today anyways.

Would you be able to pass on the phone number to me? In NJ we are required to have insurance in most places.

The company name is Guide 1 Mutual. They are in Des Moines, Iowa. The phone # is (502)821-3122. Check the area code out of your local phone book because we have gone through a area code change recently. Hope this helps.

I just have to chime in because i HATE insurance companies. about a year ago I got into a freeway pileup during heavy rain going downhill and couldn't stop with a football field's worth of space (thank god it was a beat up '88 chevy truck i got for real cheap), a state trooper (supposedly ALWAYS give tickets) didn't give me a ticket and even told my parents who i called to come to the accident that it wasn't my fault, couldn't do anything. Safeco insurance dropped me! Geico (Rapeco) gave me $1600 every 6 months for full liability coverage on my current stang, and i switched to Progressive and now get a little less than $900 every six months ($150 a month roughly)....That's a lot of goddam money i could use elsewhere.
My record:
No tickets
1 at fault accident (rearended car in front of me) involved in pileup.
on the positive side i didn't get hurt in my accident and it was only a chevy truck.
I was thinking of getting a street bike, but after looking at insurance rates for both the bike (need it to finance) and mustang as well as the monthly payments for the bike, i would be miserable...damn insurance....
