Default Ignitions

If you get a MSD ignition like the 6A or 6AL can you use the same if you put a new engine in like if you go from a 3.8 to a 5.0 or 5.0 to a 5.8 or 5.0 to 4.6 you get the idea. I want to get the MSD 6A but I may change engines. Can it change with the engine or do you need a whole new one.

I'm pretty sure you can, the listing say's that it is good for 4, 6 and 8 cylinder cars. I wouldn't think the ignition would change that dramatically, and there is no seperate model for differen't size engines i've been able to find.

You can ask MSD direct, might be your best bet for specifics.

The MSD 6a is compatible with near any engine mustang came with, although im not 100%sure about the 4.6's. As for the MSD 6AL, because of the rev limiter it comes with it requires you to cut 1 or 2 wires for v6's and 4cyl cars respectively. for the V8 you leave all the wire intact. If you previously cut the wires for a 4 cyl or v6 all you have to do is tie the wires back together. Just in case you didnt know you will probably need to get a tach adapter or a new tach if you dont allready have one.

I dont think you can use it with the 4.6 because they are distributorless. I think that is why they made the DIS-4. Thats what it is advertised for at least.
