255x50 are too big on ponies..
I recently bought some used ponies with 255x50 in the rear. I think these are too big for the rims and it doesn't look too good. Are these tires too big for 7" rims and is there a safety issue here? What about 245x50? Does anyone have any pictures of 245s on ponies? Is everyone using 245x50 or 245x45 on there ponies?

I've got 245/50/16's in the rear on pony rims. They fit just right, but I was thinking of going w/ 255's, maybe you answered that question for me.

I agree that 255's are too big for ponies, but I do know people that run them without a problem. I had 245's on mine and they were great, and I'm gonna put 245's back on after I burn off the ones on them now.

Those must be the BFG's if it's a D/R, I know that Nitto doesn't make a tire that wide for the 16" rims and BFG does. I've heard of many people running the 255's on the Pony rims with no probs though.

I ran 255 50 16's for a while til they burned off, hopefully I'll have some money for a new set sometime soon. I'd go with the 255's, but the 245's look good also.

I don't really have a problem with them, they seem to fit okay. Its just that they look like my stomach with my belt on too tight while wearing a tight tee shirt. Sort of bulging over the beltline... Anyway, it a personal choice that I would not have made and I hope its not a safety issue. Just sharing my thoughts for those of you thinking about going to bigger tires. Maybe if the rims were 8" instead of 7" then it would look better. BTW did anyone see the new 17x8 ponies that just came out? Now thats a thought for those who like the ponies...

I don't understand why ponies are supposed to be 7" wide, I measured mine and they were 8", why is that?
