Question Why do the back tires wear out faster?

My rear tires are bald. But the fronts are ok, strange?

Why do the rear tires wear out so fast?

Most GT mustangs wear out the rear tires because when you push on the accelerator the torque pushes down the tire against the pavement increasing friction. This is a normal wear characteristic of most RWD vehicles, just like the front tires wear on front wheel drive (plus more weight on FWD tires).

This is assuming of course you don't have stupid front alignment angles or dumb suspension like twin I-beam explorers that scrub the tread off the front tires as well.

I've been having the same problem!

I put a set a rear tires on every 6 months for last 3 years, and I've never been so happy!

Torque is fun.

but if you guys ever go to the track and want to prolong the life of your slicks rotate them after every pass. It really saves the tires. Another thing...long burnouts do NOT tear up the tires. Your only hydroplaning. You tear your tires up when you sit in the waterbox and spin them. After about a half second or so the spot they are sitting on is dry and getting hot. Plus it already has the rubber you just laid down tearing up the rubber that's still on the tire. Use some of these tips next time you go to the track.

Actually, Eric, it really is an excellent post (not this one, the one in Windsor, lol).

Getting confusing. You're gonna need an index.
