The Simpsons mystery continues (Mustanggt350)

So everybody knows about Matt Groeing's little scam to make it totally ambiguous what State Springfield is in? Like the fact that they can go out to sea in one episode, and jump what looks like the Snake River Gorge in another.

I've heard that he is from San Luis Obispo, and that there were reactors like we see in town near his house. But I've recently seen two episodes that make me wonder if anybody has a good guess.

Here's what I saw.
1. Simpson's in Brazil. The little orphan boy tells Lisa he was going to send her a letter but didn't know what State she lived in. She said, "It's pretty obvious if you look at the clues." What clues?
2. The power plant has a softball team. They play a game that shows the following two towns on the scoreboard: Springfield (obviously) and Shelbyville. Yeah, like the former Avatar of a member.

I know this is pretty far from a muscle car topic, though Homer was seen driving a Superbird in a flashback episode. I'm interested to hear where people think they are located.

They're in kentucky...they gave it away in the Behind the music episode of Simpsons

hahahha. I love that movie so much. Im glad there are more Jay and Silent Bob lovers on here. You guys seen all the other ones?

Clerks
Mallrats
Chasing Amy
Dogma
Jay and Silent Bob Strike back

89 Cobra LX 07-23-2002 01:23 PM

"Affleck, you rocked in Phantoms!"

J and SB Strike Back is one of the most tasteless, pointless and idiotic movies ever made. I loved every minute of it.

The scene where Jay and Silent Bob are typing in that chat-board reply at the fast-food joint is hilarious.:p

StoplightWarrior 07-23-2002 01:34 PM

My favorite part was when Will Ferrell was in the shootout at the end, making those funny faces. For my money, it doesnt get any better than Will Ferrell.

89 Cobra LX 07-23-2002 02:04 PM

"And for the record, I'm completely straight, but my buddy Stoplight Warrior loves the cock."

If you haven't seen the movie you have no idea what this means.

Just messin with ya Warrior.:D

PKRWUD 07-23-2002 02:42 PM

You guys MUST get the DVD!!! There are SO many outtakes and clips that were edited that they put on the second disc. There's a whole string of clips of Judd Nelson improvising various cornhole comments after Farrell dives into the storm drain. Farrell does a lot of improv, too. Very, very funny.

Here's a little link, just for you guys:

Too Cool

:)

Take care,

Mustangbelle306 07-23-2002 04:38 PM

Thanks for the list, Blue... I think probably EVERYONE on this board knows the classics that have come out of View Askew :D and that's why I love ya'll!!! :)

I didn't like ANY of the movies as much as Clerks, I guess your first is always your fav :) and I HATED HATED HATED the end of Chasing Amy... I mean, no, she didn't have to end up with Affleck at the end, but UGH! So unsastifying :(

No one can top Sergio Leone or Scorcese for quality flicks though...

lysacat 07-23-2002 07:09 PM

Mustangbelle:
It's funny you mentioned Chasing Amy. I went to high school with Joey Lauren Adams. But you know I haven't seen that movie yet. I guess I need to. ;) C-ya, Melisa

Getting back to the original question here.....the Simpsons are from Colorado.

They showed a US map with "springfield" on it in one episode, and it was in Colorado.

later

I haven't heard of any town called Springfield in Colorado, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist or they didn't make it up. I have watched almost every episode a few times and I never recall them giving away where they were from. I don't think they even know where they are from. It snows frequentley, it's by an ocean, its by a huge mountain, it has hurricanes. I don't know of many places like that.

Mach 1 07-23-2002 09:08 PM

I dont think its by an ocean?

Maybe they drive a distance for the ocean episodes?

I used to think it was in Illinois for some reason. Is there an actual Springfield in Illinois?

I used to think that too...

Springfield IS the capital of Illinois! :)

The Deuce 07-23-2002 09:57 PM

There is an episode where Homer house-sits for Mr. Burns. In that one, they drive down to the harbor on the edge of town. I don't think its that far away. Of course you know that West Springfield is three times the size of Texas. So I don't think we quite know where it is.

StoplightWarrior 07-23-2002 10:11 PM

Guys, it is in KENTUCKY. There can be no debate...that is the answer.

digital3.3 07-23-2002 10:15 PM

the simpsons were they had "behind the laughter" was on TV today and they said that the simpsons are a kentucky family.

The Deuce 07-23-2002 10:42 PM

That episode also has Maggie talking and a bunch of other things that make it different. I think the family that plays the simpsons is said to be from Kentucky, not that the Simpsons are actually from Kentucky. See the suttle difference?

thats why i wrote that they were a kentucky family, it never said nothing about them actually living there. thats quite true we still don't really know where they are from. i was thinking the same thing after they said that in the episode today.

srv1 07-23-2002 10:55 PM

just a cartoon! and a damn good one!

sorry to burst your bubble people, but Springfield is not anywhere in the USA for the show. it is just fictional name. Matt Groening used it because it was one of the most common city names in the US. read for yourself:springfield

digital3.3 07-23-2002 11:04 PM

i think most of us knew that springfield really didn't exist, but were having fun arguing about it anyways. but right on finding that info on it though. you must have a lot of time on your hands. j/k:D
