Question Need a Good Hotel In Vegas, ideas?

When I drive down to Dallas in 2 weeks, I'm stopping in Vegas for several days and I know that there are so many cool places to see, anyone have some recommendations?

My wife and I want to see a few (free) shows, do some slots and card games (Got to win me enough money to buy some car parts ), eat some good food and not go broke doing everything (Got to save some money for car parts )

Ideas from those who have been there recently (or live there)?

Thanks.

We just got back from there for a weeks Vacation..

Stayed at the Mirage..A little pricey but very nice.

I would try the RIO. Its right in the middle of the strip and the best buffet in town.

P.S. You have to check out the Imperial Palace Car collection.

I just went in November and I'm going back this December...my gf and I stated in the Venetian and this time we're staying at the Treasure Island...but if you don't care about being on the strip then the Vegas Hilton often has rooms for like 60 bucks a night. If you want to find out all the rates the best place to go is
www.lvrs.com

stands for (Las Vegas Reservation System)

Good luck
Mike

Thanks guys. I know that there are so many cool places to stay and we are only stopping for 2 or 3 days so if I can get a good idea of where to stay it will be great.

When I went there I stayed at the Mirage (i think, its the pyramid one), it was great fun. I think anywhere you go will be good, and there are places all over where they serve margaritas out of slurpee machines!

Actually the pyramid one is the Luxor - and that's the one I was gonna suggest. My wife and I got married in Vegas in 96 and stayed there and it was great. You'll have fun wherever you go though

New York, New York is my favorite, Different parts of the hotel are named after different buildings in New York. You can stay in the Empire state building or the Chrysler tower! The Luxor is decent, heck, it doesn't matter where you stay, you'll be out until 5am and sleep 'til noon and be out of your room in ten minutes! Especially if you have a car down there.

I've checked out that site and talked with the wife. There a couple of highly recommended places. Since I'm driving down in the stang we'll be able to drive down and pick a place while we're there. A couple of the places you've mentioned are the ones that Have come recommended.

Anyone every win big in Vegas?

Hey Cam! I recommend the Monte Carlo, we stayed there the last time we went. Have also stayed at Treasure Island and the Mirage, and the Monte Carlo was nicer IMO and was cheap. It's right next door to the west of New York New York (that place is really neat too). Don't go there counting on paying your future kid's college! You might be disappointed.

Hey John! The Monte Carlo eh? I'll check into that.

I fly back to Edmonton on June 13th and head for Dallas on the 19th. We should meet up between then and go for a cruise. Is your cell number still the same?

I can give you a call when I get in as I'm staying in Sherwood Park.

1. The Rio is nice but it is NOT on the strip. You have to cross over the freeway to the strip. Great seafood buffet but not cheap.

2. Mirage, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Paris are all very nice but very expensive and don't plan on winning there.

3. Tropicana, Flamingo, Ballys are a little older but probably a little less expensive.

4. Barbary Coast, Imperial Place, Circus Circus, Sahara, Riviera (where I work) are all older and cheaper but definitely OLDER...

5. My pick... Excalibur (big Castle), Luxor (big Pyramid) and Mandalay Bay are all owned by Mandalay Resort Group (where I used to work) if you stay at one of these then you can take the tram between all three and use the facilities at all three (Mandalay Bay has a great wave pool and lazy river) but stay at the Luxor for the best all around. Don't plan on winning much money on the strip... they pay for these multi-million dollar casinos somehow.

If you get a "What's on in Vegas" magazine when you get here, it will have coupons and possibly free tickets to the Auto Show at the Imperial Palace. The magazine is free and is usually available where you buy tickets or any 7-11. Don't plan on finding a bunch of free shows cause those days are over. But the Fremont Street experience downtown is free. It's a big light show over the main downtown street, Fremont (scheduled times).

Sites to be seen... Top of the Stratosphere. Dolphin tanks at Mirage. Volcano in front of the Mirage (free, scheduled times). Fountains in front of the Bellagio (free, scheduled times). Virtual racing at the Sahara. Star Trek experience at the Hilton. Pirate battle in front of the Treasure Island (free, scheduled times) And tons more...
