Default somewhat unbelievable dyno #s for a N/A 4.6L??

Hey guys, I just left the local dyno here in town, they specialize in custom superchargers and etc on Mustangs and other domestic cars. Anyway, I was there when a 2002 GT pulled up on the rollers, I was kind of interested to see what kind of #s he was gonna pull because i've never seen a run with a 4.6L stang before. They popped the hood on it, it had the stock plastic intake on it and a k&n filter sticker on the airbox, so nothing out of the ordinary under the hood, looked basically stock. Well they hooked it up and ran the car, it put down 280 horses at the wheels. I was shocked, and somewhat confused at the numbers he put down. Did this guy get a freak of nature or what? Even the guy running the dyno couldnt understand the #s, hes run a few before and usually they are 230-240hp, the only thing the guy had done was a pair of flowmasters, and a K&N. Doesnt that sound high? I didnt think that those mods alone would give that kind of power, it has only 1200 miles on it, and the guy can barely make the payments, so i doubt hes got cams or anything in it. I thought i'd share this interesting story with u guys, im sure some of you will be as dumbfounded as i was haha, take care

A lil' nitrous kit could get him there. Maybe a hidden one?

If he didn't have an NOS kit hidden anywhere, I would say that their dyno needs to be calibrated...

well come to find out, it was a car from SHM, Im not sure the specs and stuff but the guy that owns the dyno got a call from the owner later on and asked where he bought it, from Sean Hyland. I didnt think they modded gts but whatever. It was strange though it didnt look any different than a factory gt, go figure.

Default DynoJet? Mustang?

Was the dynomometer a DynoJet or a Mustang? I've heard of people (Skyman?) getting inflated numbers sometimes from Mustang dynos.

Those are some definately good numbers for that car. If it indeed had work done by Sean then you can guarantee that it's a runner But dyno's aren't always "accurate". Theirs too many variables involved with dyno's. I was talking with billy up there at his shop and he said he prefers his customer's motors to be dyno'd just with the motor..not in a rear wheel dyno. I suppose the dyno could be off..but if it's a sean hyland motor as i stated above it very well could be putting those kind of numbers down.

thats what i was thinking myself, SHM is a big player in the mod world, that could explain a good portion of the #s, I was on his site and there is a link to the team shinoda boss they are coming out with, kinda pricey but they look cool, check it out

Either way that is pretty sweet for a 'stock' GT to pull those #'s. I'm going to get my car dyno'd before it's stored for the winter. Basicly any time I get some time. Hopefully I'll try to get down there this weekend. I more the less want a accurate reading when someone asks me how much hp I have.
