Unhappy With tires spinning...Death claims another

Well guys and gals....I am not sure how many of you are from or familiar with Canada.....but I live on the West Coast in BC and for the 6th day in a row a teenager has died in a road race. This will be the 8th life in a week. I ask.....hell I beg any of you out there who are....lets say blessed in the monetary sense...for the love of life...DO NOT give your child a new import or other fast car for that matter. Make them work for it so that they respect it. Every accident lately has been kids in newer, faster imports....blowing into poles..trees..people...other cars. I am getting sick of the stench of Death that hangs over this God for saken world...It hurts in the worst way and I know some of you feel the same...sorry I had to post this but I am really starting to feel it so take care...and keep it on the track.

I have a hunch a lot more people die in street racing than 6 per week in the US.

.0003% of 15-19 year olds in Canada just died in street racing over the past few days. Or .00000288 of the total 15-19 year olds. Inexperienced drivers and fast cars don't mix, but grabbing the hype and going nuts over it is unwarranted. All it does is serve extremist goals.

Well I am 17 and worked hard for 2 years to buy my 1990 GT. My dad lent me the money to buy it but i have never asked him if i could stop paying and i respect my car. I have been into 2 accidents. 1 accident was not my fault (rearended) adn one i screwed up when somthnig fell in the backseat and i tried to upright it but turned the wheel went off the raod and hit a tree. It costs me big time and my dad helped me out once again buy lending me more money. I am in the whole 5900 and i should have it paid off in 6 months. I don't light the tires up with cars coming towards me and i don't really speed. I think i am a responsible driver for my age and i don't take many stupid risks. If i want to go fast i go out to back road where i know there is no cops or people just fields.

In my opinion it has a lot to do with the mentality of the person. I have never been the one to take any kind of risks. I drive how i want to drive not how other ppl tell me to.

Oh and i don't street race ever

Hey 1980convertible, I have a lot of family in the Okanagan (my parents and sister live in Westbank to name just a few). And every time I go to visit the ricer scene is bad. But so are the drugs. I had a freind who went to OCC and guys would get all doped up and go put in there imports! They Freakin asking for it if you ask me! Drugs and cars (any cars, not just the fast ones) don't mix!

I don't know how it is down in Summerland, but that's how it was in Kelowna.

I think you hear more about the deaths in Canada. There is lots of that kind of stuff that goes on even in Dallas, and it just does get as much media attention IMO.

Let's hope this ricer-teen-age-street-racing thing gets a lot better.

It's not good in Kelowna, but I don't think it's all that bad either. You were probably just hanging out with a poor group of people.

Havn't heard of a single accident relateing to street racing in Kelowna in the last year.

Vancouver is out of controll tho! Alot of the Asians out there take their pride and their cars very seriously. It's not only Asians, but if you look at the 8 People who died, I believe 6 or 7 of them were Asian.

Hey 95mustanggt, you are right when you say that drugs and cars don't mix. And lately the Okanagan has become a haven for drugs and frankly it pisses me off. When I had my convertible (sold it a year ago) I used to get pulled over all the time and my car used to be strip searched. There have even been a couple times that I have had to wait for a police dog. The ricers out here are not as bad...some of them are a little more concentrated in areas like Kelowna and Penticton and 70 Nitrous is right....there aren't very many street races in Kelowna because most everyone knows there is a track and there are so many back roads....I for one have gone out to Kelowna to race on the back roads and tracks. And the Asian topic....yeah it has been a majority of Asians. Unfortunately and I have nothing against them but some of them are too arrogant and think they have something to prove. Anyway...no one died yesterday so lets keep our fingers crossed.

Dude, that must have sucked! I used to live in Peachland when I was younger. I love the Okanagan, but 2 of my best freinds lived there for 2 years while in OCC and the stories they told, man I'm glad I only visit! You are lucky being in Summerland, you get a little distance from some of that crap (in Kelowna anyways).

1980convertible, I too am sick of the same story here.

Not to be racist, but it doesn't shock me anymore when I see Asian+new BMW+16yrs old+pole/tree

Richmond has become a memorial to asian streeters. I cringe when I see them coming up on me like maniacs. 2 days ago, a BMW z3, Audi TT and an RX-7 were racing over the bridge to Richmond at 6pm! They came up on me 2 feet on my ***.

Then they give me the finger when I pulled into the right-hand lane to let them by... sheesh.

Those are all pretty crazy stories. Only thing that bothers me is how they endanger other peoples life. If you want to race and drive quick take it to a country road where there is no one around, or take it to the track. I like to drive quick, but I do it responsibly. I do it late at night on open roads and I don't do things that risk anyone elses lives, or even really things that will endanger my life. If the roads are wet, or icy I slow right down and have no urge to speed. Some new drivers just lack the brains to see what can arise ahead.

Drive Safely,
§am.
