Steering woes....
I have a problem. The power steering hydraulic control valve is shot in my car. It is still driveable, but there is a lot of side to side slop in the bushing where the pitman arm goes into it.
I have 2 choices. Send in my bad valve with a core charge of $70, buy the rebuilt one for $115, and get refunded $70 of the core charge. ORRRRRRRRR....... Ditch the power steering and buy the manual steering adapter that replaces the p/s control valve. This thing would cost $150.... The car will be driven on the street and on the drag strip. It's not a daily driver, just driven in nice weather on the weekends to have a little fun. I have skinny (215/60/15) front tires on it that are not too bad to turn without power steering. I think I want to convert to manual steering....but I'm not quite convinced it's the right thing to do..... Whadda you guys think? |

If it's not a everyday driver, manual is better, plus more power, less the motor turns.

The power thing doesn't really matter to me...maybe if it was an all out 2000 lb drag car...but the 2-3 hp I might gain doesn't really matter....
Anyone else? |
