Stock 5.0 engine is worth???

I have the stock engine out of my 89lx on an engine stand. I was thinking of buying an old 4x4 pickup and dropping it in. Well, I don't think I'm going to do that after all and was thinking of selling it. Its a complete engine, stock intake to stock oil pan... water pump and all. Its complete minus the ignition, it even has the stock tb. It has 100k miles on it and ran strong but I wanted more hp and ordered the stroker. What's it worth??

I'd say about $6.75 to about $8.50.

How do you want me to make out the check?
I will email the shipping address

Around here they go for $500 cdn from the junkyard. Or around $450-600 depending on the condition. I'd say you should get a few hundred $us for it.

man, why did you have to give him those numbers, he was gonna sell it to me...lol

I was even gonna chip in another 5 bucks to help him with the shipping.

I've seen them going for anywhere between $200-$600. With yours having that much mileage, I'd have to say it's closer to the $200-$400 range.

Like anything for sale, it is worth what the market will bear. Seems to me, they are worth more to keep than to sell. I figure, if you can get 500 bucks, take it. But I wouldn't sell it, you may wish you hadn't down the road.

rbatson 03-05-2001 09:25 PM

Well, I had a guy offer $500 for it a few monthes ago and I told him it wasn't for sale. He bought one from another guy I know. I guess $500 was a good offer, but I know that is a strong engine. I did a compression check right before the engine swap.
I just hate the thought of it sitting in the garage and wasting away. If it sits there much longer I'm gonna wrap it up with a plastic bag.

what the hell! here in Mississippi I can get a 5.0 from a junk yard for $150 to $200(with tans if u can talk them into it). I guess i got it lucky. I just bought a 1984 Lincon Towncar(totaly compleate) and a 1979 RX-7(needed a fuel pump and had minor rust) both for $200. I'm gona put the 302 out of the Lincon in the RX-7 a bracket race with it for now, while it building a stought 302 to put in it

RBATSON- seriously, $200 and I'll come get it on March 16. I've got a supercharger that wants this engine. Not to mention a car that could stand a new motor.
That or I could drop it in the SVO and reak havoc on the unsuspecting Z28 or WS-6.
More than likely, it'll go into the 89GT. It's got a bad ring, and needs to be rebuilt anyway. If you don't want to sell that's cool. Let me know.
