Stock Gears
My 1992 LX 2.3 didn't come stock with 3.73's did it? Some guy in windsor power said his friend's car came stock with 3.73's. That just doesn't seem logical to me I guess. If that's the case it would save me some time and money from buying 3.73's.

I'm no expert on the 2.3L or I would say any mustang for that matter. :D But that does seem quite odd if they added 3.73 gears to the 2.3L. I'll try to search around the web and see if I can find anything for ya.

Check your door tag under 'AX'.

Well I checked and my axle code was F. So that must mean I have a 3.45 gear ratio. Now the question is would the 3.73's even be worth getting? I was thinking maybe 4.10's now?
I don't do much highway driving either. I'm not going to get too crazy with my car since after all it is a 4 banger. :) I just wanted to tinker around with it a little. |
Mine says LE...what rear is that? I didnt see it on the list..

SilverGT02:
The above list is only applies to Fox Mustangs (pre '94). You should have a 3.27 rear axle ratio on your 2002 GT. |
My 92 2.3 has 3.73's in it. They need them, due to it being a 4 banger and all and not making much torque.
Frankly they need 4.56's(at least) |
Frankly, tireburner, you need a 5.0 swap.
Mwahahahahaha.....I love it that you hate that.....hehehe....:D :D :D Sorry....it's just too easy....and I've been missing out on this...I gotta catch up......lol.....:p ;) |
Hmm... no offense but why spend the money to put gears in a 4 cylinder... i'd save it for a new motor.
|
Or if they sell it you could put the turbo on that came with the svo turbos. I know they are a 4 cylinder turbo and runs pretty close to a stock gt... not sure if it's the same motor as in the regular 4 cylinders or not though.

The regular 2.3's and the T/C 2.3's are funmentally the same, however there are several important differances
T/C 2.3's have lower compression forged pistons, forged cranks, different intakes, differnt exhaust manifold, differnt eletronics, different injectors, exc. You CAN put a turbo on a normal 2.3, you I'm not sure how long it would last at even stock boost levels under hard driving condions. However, with about 5-6psi(intercooled) and if you don't beat on it constantly, it should be pretty reliable and should perk the motor up a good bit, however it will never make the 190hp the T/C is rated at or the 205 the SVO is rated at. |
