Stop writing one big block of message!
Hi,
First off, I love this message board; I drop by several times a day, just to see if any interesting stories have been posted. However, there are some of you who post (long) interesting messages that are simply annoying to read. How? Well, I hate reading a story that is written in ONE HUGE paragraph. It simply irritrates me that some of you don't make an effort to split up the story into chunks/paragraphs. So next time you make (long) posts, try to divide your story into paragraphs. I think it will make it easier for many to read. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif Is it me or is it starting to get hot in here... (<-- in reference to flames I'm most likely to receive). http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif Thanks! Bye! ------------------ Gautam N. A reasonable request.
It's known as formatting and really does make a story/message easier and more inviting to read. Those who do this will probably get a larger number of reads and better responses to their posts. Those who don't, won't. It's still the posters' choice. No rules about this, it's only a suggestion. ------------------ Mr. 5.0 Messageboard Administrator |

Hi,
Well, I hate to get 'picky' but hey, that's just something I've noticed over time. People come in the BOL to express their views/opinions so I figured I do the same. Is there something wrong in doing that? As for my next b*tching? Hmm...I've always had this beef with people who can't tell the freakin difference between YOUR and YOU'RE. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif Bye! ------------------ Gautam N. Hehe, let the English lessons begin!
I've noticed a few people who don't use proper grammer, but wouldn't take the time to harp on them about it. I understand what they are saying and that's plenty good enough. And besides, I know there have been quite a few times when I've used the wrong pronunciation (is that spelled right?). Not that I'm slamming on you Guatam because everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I see nothing wrong with you bringing up this topic. But just be prepared when you do post a topic that is more or less slamming on someone to get slammed in return. Most of the people here are into Mustangs, not grammer and could care less about the latter. ------------------ 90 Mustang LX 5.0 My Ride*My Site |
your vs you're
there vs their vs they're coarse vs course moot point vs mute point you lose your mind not loose your mind {unless,of course, you loose your mind on the course of a coarse subject. Once there it will be their decision if they're going to mute you. In which case it is a moot point} These are the most common misuses. Not flaming anyone in particular. I certainly am not perfect and on occasion will misspell a word. I also am one of those guilty of typing out one large paragraph. Just thought I'd throw more fuel on the fire. A lot is shown of a person in their communication with others. Grammar, spelling, and puncuation should always be considered whether it is a term paper or an e-mail/post on the web.
It does not take up that much extra time when writing a post to be a little cleaner in form. Some of the posts are very hard to read and comprehend but have great content and information. |
Well, I am a college student and I do know how to compose a piece of writing. However, it is very tiring to correct and fix every mistake. I thought, that the internet of all places, would not be as formal about grammar and the like.
I do realize the importance of acting professional, but most of us here on the website don't have the correct skills to communicate on that level. You can read into how someone writes and tell alot about them. But we are not here to criticize and degrade people based upon their writing abilities. This is a place that I figured I could let down my guard that I put up daily, at school. It is not an unreasonable request to split a blob of a paragraph into much smaller coherent ones, but don't criticize fellow mustangers. I myself am guilty of writing big paragraphs. After reading your post Gautam, I went to where I made a lengthy post and split it into easier to read paragraphs. We are all here to learn, but not about grammar and spelling, just about MUSTANGS! ------------------ 88GT stock shortblock, ported GT-40 iron heads, ported Edlebrock Performer intake, 24# inj, Pro-M 75mm Bullet MAM, 3.73, hurst short throw, F-303, electric fan, alum rad, FMS HD clutch, R134a ac conversion, 70mm TB , and some other stuff I probably forgot, best run so far on ET streets is 13.02@106 with a 1.87 60ft. Hi,
Well, I wasn't targetting anyone in particular. I just wanted to let my thought out to the general audience, so those who do write big paragraphs (you know who you are) will understand why I'm b*tching. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif I know the 'Net is unformal, and we should talk any way we want, but it doesn't hurt to practice proper grammar and spelling. It's like talking to someone in person; you don't want them scratching their head trying to figure out what the hell you're talking about. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif Bye! ------------------ Gautam N. Lad http://www.cubicdesign.com http://www.cubicdesign.com/mustang/ |
First off Guatam...
targetting should be targeting (only one "T") and unformal is not a word. And just to let you criticize your own posts, I've noticed another spelling boo boo in one of your posts, and improper use of grammer in another. Can you find them? Just poking fun man, not flaming http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif ------------------ 90 Mustang LX 5.0 My Ride*My Site [This message has been edited by AxemanZZ (edited 12-28-2000).] |
Maybe we need spell checker for usage when we make posts. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif

Hi,
Hehe, crap, I was off by a letter for both those words. Oh well. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif As for spelling and grammar. Well, I don't exactly write my messages like I'm writing an essay. Anywho, lets not get carried away at pointing fingers at those who can't spell or use proper grammar; my original post was about splitting up paragraphs and not spelling or grammar. And as always, I can always use the arguement English is not my first language (even though I moved to Canada 12 years ago and have spoken/written nothing but English). http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif 96GTS: Actually, we don't need a spellchecker; we could just rely on AxemanZZ to check our spelling and grammar. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif Bye! ------------------ Gautam N.
