swap motors?
 

Some of you may know that I'll be getting married soon so I can't spend money on my car like I use to. I have been thinking of taking the motor out of my 79 and stick it in my 93 for a while now. I never get to drive my 79 much because it is not streetable, but the motor is not that bad. The only thing that I am concerned about is the solid roller cam. It has 6.66 lift and over 250 duration @.50:cool: It has awesome power between 3500rpm to 6500rpm but I am concerned about the valvetrain lifespan with that cam. Or are all solid cams the same when it comes to lifespan?

It would make the ultimate sleeper. 93lx with faded red paint, pony rims, chrome exaust tips on the stock tail pipes (like that when I bought it and I can't get them off). All I have to buy would be motormounts, and a short X-pipe to match the longtubes, ultra flow muffs. and frame conecters.

I think it would look like a stock stang with a exhaust system that people would try to pick on:D

I belive the cam will be fine. I hear of ppl running aroung with solid cams all the time.

I bet you can guess which one I picked :D Someone had to do it!!!! I'd do it...I know nothing about solid cams, but if its doable, and it means you'll get to enjoy that motor on a more frequent basis...drop that sucka in and start putting around! ;)

I wouldn't do it personally because you'll be more prone to beat on it as well as with the extra power you're likely to wear stuff out faster. Not only that but with solid lifters you have to adjust the lash i believe they say every 10k miles or when needed, which althout it isn't horrible, is kind of tedious. I'd say go for it if it were a hydraulic lifter cam....but the solid lifters kind of pushed my opinion over the edge.
But then again, mustangs are meant to be driven and that's exactly what you're going to do so do whatever would make you happiest.

The solid lifters don't bother me. I can get the valve covers off without removing the upper intake. I will just check them every oil change. I am just concerned about the life span of the valvetrain on a daily driver. I broke a valve spring when I first got the motor together and I don't know why. No coil bind or nothing it may of been a bad spring:confused:
