I think the harmfulness of tanning is also related to the skin conditions that you inherit. As long as you dont burn I dont see a problem with it. Of course i grew up and have lived in san Diego about 95% of my life so i get sun all year round and getting sun burned rarely hurts for me. But i do use sunscreen but not a whole lot and i have pretty tan skin but not super dark. Just move to California and get it all year round
