Angry Thanks a LOT, Autozone!

When I bought my new p/s pump today, the retard at Autozone gave me a 3 jaw, 5-ton puller to get the pulley off...which ended up bending the pulley.

I didn't know you couldn't use one of those to get the pulley off, because everything I read about it said "use a pulley puller to remove the power steering pump pulley". I am on the verge of murdering someone. I am so mad it's not even funny.

You do use a Pulley Puller but the ford power steering pumps require a special two piece collar to get them off properly. It snaps around the shaft and uses a bolt in the center instead of the three fingers. You gonna get a new pulley. I would have them pay for it if you can cause they screwed up not you.

I bought my power steering pump pulley remover/installer from Autozone. You'd think they'd know better.

Just got back from returning the puller. Neither the manager nor the person who gave me the puller was there, so tomorrow afternoon I'm going to bring them the recipt for a new pulley from Ford...what would that cost, from the dealer? They wanted $106 for the pump, so I'm guessing the pulley is $30-40?

As a former ChinaZone manager, I would go directly to the store's general manager..not one of the assistants, or PM's.
They have no authority to approve that, but the store manager has the authority and will probably not see a problem.
Just watch how you approach it.
Take the receipt from the tool you rented, the old pulley, and the receipt for the new one, if you have already purchased it, if not, they usually have a Ford dealership in hte area that they deal with, and they might be able to get you one.
I don't necessarily agree with their products, and such, or the attitudes of some of the corporate structure of Autozone, but most of their management staff do have hearts.

My local dealer wants $48.17 (plus tax) for a new pulley, and if I order it right now I'll get it by Monday evening.
