Question Trac Loc rebuild parts where to get??

I think I asked this question before but I forget

I need to rebuild the clutch packs in my 8.8, do I have to get the parts from Ford or is there other sources? I remember someone said to use an F-150 tension spring to replace the original one to get more holding power. I was going to wait till I swapped the gears out but it's starting to break loose quite a bit latley and the one leg burnouts are embarrasing as well.

I recommend finding a driveline shop that specializes in the rebuilding of transmissions for trucks and tractors. We have such a place located north of my location. Since they service a number of tractor trans, they also find work on a number of farm trucks which happen to be of the f250 two ton variety. This means that they keep plenty of clutch packs for the ford 8.8 rear end. I was only able to locate the packs from Ford and a this local tractor driveline place. Very good price too.

I got mine through Texas Mustangs for like $49, but the price may have gone up a bit.

I usually get scared by any big item price at the local Ford dealers, they wanted $57 ea for door weatherstrips, $235 for a flywheel. I figure this is due to markup, the catalogs seem to sell even the Ford stuff much cheaper.

I'll do some more diggin around here I like the $49 from Texas Mustangs. I figgered more of you guys have worn out your Trac Locs, most of mine was worn down by the Previous owner who broke two trannys and smoked the clutch and flywheel

I got mine from Ford for about $70 and did it when I installed my new gears. If you're not doing a gear change, it should be a relatively easy job. The hardest part is inserting the spring.

This article covers what's involved to do a complete gear swap, but it also has info on doing the clutch packs.

That's a good article. We followed that when we installed my gears. My T-loc rebuild kit came from Holcomb Motorsports.

WOW what a great article. Now I am considering the gear and Tlok swap together again, but not sure if I want to cough up the approx $300 extra just yet. I have a buddy that will help me with the work either way so the labor will only be a case of beer.

hmmm, that's just the one thing I don't want to jump into on my car! I'm such a slacker, I've had my 3.55's sitting in the box for two years! I just don't trust anyone else touching my car!
