turndowns or tialpipes

need advice i have turndowns was thinking of getting tailpipes

advantages and disadvantages to either

people say that you lose a small amount of low end torque if you dont have atleast 12" of pipe after the mufflers.

the only other downside to dumps is the interior noise and fumes. I have them on mine, and am about to put my pipes back on because I do alot of highway driving and the drone is getting old.

But they sure do sound awesome like that.

Tailpipes finish the look of the car (if an LX), but the sound isnt quite as cool. IMO ofcourse

find 2-- 55 gal drum's, cut out the plug holes & screw in cap, weld them next to your tail pipes , a few seconds you have dump's, screw the lids back in , then you have tailpipes, i know not new news, but it work's great. :) ;)

Don't know if this matters to you but a smog car with dumps will not pass visual in CA. If you decide to go with dumps, don't weld on the turn downs, bolt them on and keep a set of pipe that go either out to the side or to the back of the car for smog.

Other than that, dumps can get really annoying on the freeway.

not true my car passed the sniffer in july with dumps. i even asked them before i started the paperwork if dumps were ok they said no problem at all. i thought smog laws were tough here.

deuce do they dyno the cars for smog where your from? they do here its every other year though

I like the sound of the dumps, and the interior drone sounds cool to me, but I can see where it would get old on the freeway over long distances. On the other hand, I dont like dumps on notchbacks, it looks like something is missing without tailpipes. What body style is your fox? - John

Dumps

93calcobra, did they actually crawl under your car to place the sniffer in the dumps (turn downs)? Just curious on that. If it passed the visual test, those guys must be pretty easy going. Most places here in Texas wouldn't let you by, I don't think.

If it were me, I'd put tailpipes on it.:D

93calcobra 10-21-2002 07:20 PM

the rear end sits on a dyno anyway so they really did not get under the car

It has been so long since I've smogged a car, I couldn't tell you that answer anymore. I believe they do run them on the dyno, and it was my understanding that they would fail you for dumps. I know of a lot of things that will pass a sniffer but still get you failed, like anything without a CARB # on it. On-road H and X pipes come to mind.

Sometimes I just hate the CA smog crap.
