Unit 5302's Mustangworks Experience
Man, for me, it seems just like a foggy yesterday that I registered here.
Over the past 2 1/2 years I've made 3500 posts. People have come and gone. Every once in a while I drop into Sportbikes Net as an outsider. I see names pop up of formerly active members of the Mustangworks. I remember back when I first came here and knew far less than I do now about almost everything Mustang related. I've met some very killer people on this board. People I consider friends. I've sat back and watched new guys/gals posting that are now seasoned veterans. I've continued to be active here, but I wonder how long it will keep up. What will this board look like in another 3 years? Will the rookies of today be the veterans of tomorrow? What happened to some of the most respected members. Back when SN95 and Mr 5.0 used to be the techmasters answering question after question the current Seniors here were just rookies. In the past year I've formed friendships with some of the members on this board that are solid, and real. Skyman, PG Kelly, inferno, Mustangbelle306, dinomite, godslayer, RedLilPony, stanglady, Mercury, TXinPA. I hope you guys don't mind me recognizing you in this manner. You all kick *** and I'm damn proud to consider myself a friend of yours. I had a palm reading (yeah, I don't believe that **** either) that said I will die soon. Even though I don't believe it, it makes me sit back and wonder a bit. Who are the people that matter, and where do I go when I need a release? I come here, to hear the stories of my close friends, and all the other members here who I enjoy seeing post their experiences. I can't believe the up and down year I've had. I can attribute 90% of it to the people here at the Mustangworks. It's become a very real addition to my real life, not just my internet life. I hope that I'm around a few more years to see how things change, and that the comaraderie between the members here continues. What do the people on this board mean to you? |
I'm gonna cry...
**sniff, sniff** I agree, my whole internet experience on message boards has been a positive one. I never expected to become friends with people on this board, even though I came here with good intentions. I have been received well even though I "play for the opponent". I can name a few people who have made an impact on my life outside of the message board, people who have helped me when I needed advice or been there for me to vent to. I am glad to have met people like Unit(even though he is wrong 90% of the time ;)) and I can honestly call him and many others friends. |
i've been here on and off for about a year now. lots of people have made an impact on my life, whether they realize it or not. :)
and, i will tell all of you...unit 5302 is a sweetheart:D |
I have been a member of this site for nearly 2 years here coming up soon...The first year I didn't frequent the board all that much, but mainly just used the site to look at other Mustangs that other people own. In just the past few months I have been checking the board as often as I can and trying to post as often as I can to try to help people. I have learned a ton about my car, and others, and I'm only 17!! I know this site will be very valuable to me throughout my current and future projects! THANKS MUSTANGWORKS!!! AND DAN!!!
I'd have to say the people on this site are all the coolest too. I wonder sometimes what it would be like to meet some you of guys and girls and hang out with you in real life, and not just over the net. You guys are all the best! You're all even nice to that punk kid with the loud car....:p |
There are many people on this board that I feel as if I really know them in real life. PKRWUD, Unit, 6T9 Pony, Skyman, inferno, Fox Body, 1BAD89, Dinomite, 2FastLX, FiveOhPatrol, Mercury, Rage 5.0, BigWhiteCobra(P.S. what ever happend to BigWhiteCobraGirl) Mach 1, and many others. I consider you guys as friends. It seems like only yesterday I resistered and now I'm coming up on 2 years in a few months.
|
One other thing that amazes me about the members of this site, is that you guys and girls are all very knowledgable in other areas also. With other makes and models of vehicles, all the way to interests in astronomy like Mercury.
PKRWUD even helped me figure out what was exactly wrong with my '86 Nissan pickup--ON A MUSTANG SITE!!! Still haven't fixed the damn thing though... Now that's some quality sh!t..... |
Damien's (Mercury) hands tremble in his pocket. His eyelid twitches with a frequency that depicts his nervounous so clearly. He takes a deep breath, and against all will proclaims to the crowd. Hi, Ummm...I'm Mercury and I'm ...ahhh.....Mustangaholic.
Serouisly though, I know how you feel Unit. I've been part of this gathering for 1 year 3 months. I'm glad my friend Tim C mentioned this place to me, hell, he even helped me Register (Thats how Internet Educated I am). It does feel like I know some of you, and it feels like I could probably pick some of you out of a crowd of strangers. Thats what Rbatson did. He pulled up to the Hangout here in Fayetteville and knew exactly who I was before I even introduced myself. You guys are some of the best friends anyone could have, weve all been through alot together. Everything from Relationship problems, to helping one another in some way deal with the Sept 11th attack. What I think is cool is, how we all might have diffrent opinions on things, but are willing to make an effort to see where the other guy is coming from. It seems like its been many moons ago that I made my first thread "Putting on a proud Display of Ford Tail Lights." Gosh. And you've all heard me complain about my now Ex-Girlfriend like Four Hundred Thousand times, and not one person said "Quit Whinning you sniviling Bum". One of these days maybe we'll all meet one another. That would kick A$$. Then we'd line em up, and I'd smoke you all...... :D I'm glad I have friends like you all. You guys make life so much easier to deal with. Hope I return in divedens what you guys have given me. Heres looking foward to the new memebers and the many years of posting to come. Cheers :D |
Cheers to us all, without a doubt this is the best website on the net! It is the first one I check in the day, and the last one I look at at night! I'm constantly recommending it to people and have the stickers on my car, and people ask me about it! Great job Dan, and to all the members, this site wouldn't be here without everyone! :)

What a long, strange trip it's been!
This was the first message board I ever belonged to. It has grown tremendously. I vaguely remember when Unit arrived. He's always been pretty sharp. I remember when, 2 years ago, Scott (Rebel79) H. and I decided it would be nice to take up a collection and get Jim and Dan something nice for Christmas. By the time we were done, each moderator got a gift certificate for about enough to buy a seat cover and a map light, but it was the thought that counted. I remember how Mach 1 and I used to argue every single day, in every single thread. I never had the balls to tell him I knew he was right alot of the time, because back then neither one of us was very good at seeing more than one answer to a question. I remember meeting Kat (Kathy Finley) here, and the thousands of private emails that followed. She asked me to moderate her Fox Body Tech forum, and write her tech quiz for her. After I "retired" from being her moderator, Unit took over. She still emails me sometimes asking for my help with a question in her forums, but I don't hear from her nearly enough anymore. She is a really terrific person, and if you haven't been to her site, there's a link in my sig. I was an every day participant on this site until January 2000. Dan was changing some things, and I kept having trouble logging in. Then, I just stopped coming here. I didn't go to any message boards. I started working for my first Sprint car team, and went back to school to learn PC repair and networking, and was pretty busy. Over the next 17 months, I stopped by here maybe 5 times. Then, this past June, I answered a few threads, and found myself hurrying back to see if any more help was needed. Within a day or two, I received very warm "welcome backs" from some of the true blue here. I can't tell you how great that felt. Anyway, I've been back ever since. It's hard to believe I took 17 months off from here, and I wish I hadn't. I'd have at least 1000 more posts than Unit if I had stayed:D :D :D . The current Mustang Works crowd is by far the best that I've seen, and I too am grateful to have you folks in my life. I really enjoy trying to share things with people who have a desire to learn, rather than those that expect their problems to be solved for them, and these pages are full of such good natured people. Even the always overboard rants between Unit and 1BAD89 end without bloodshed, although if memory serves, they are supposed to meet halfway and race each other. The average age seems to me to be lower than it was before, but they are much more intelligent and mature than the kids on here in the past. This really is a great website, and I'm so glad that WE have all found it, and that the masses elsewhere haven't.
Happy December 2nd, 2001!!!!! (it will never be this day again, so celebrate it!!!) Love you guys. Take care, -Chris |
I will be at two years also in feburary. I used to never post very much at all. Now it seems like i can't go a day with out posting. I come on here for entertainment purposes more than anything. It is just cool to talk to people that love mustangs as much as i do. It is funny how u can get to know ppl over the computer on a messeage board. This is was my first board and still the only board that i go too. When i first started i really wasn't into it as much as i am now. Now i love to come on here and post.
|
This is the best Site I've ever been to. :p Everyone here seems to know alot about mustangs and even I thought I knew everything untill I came here. I never realized that there was so much to learn. Here, I can ask questions that have been asked many a time before me, but I still get an answer. My friend, here at work has a place kinda like this for his Pt Crusier, and I was jealous. He'd get on on and post questions and get back answers, and I was so mad cause here I owned two Mustangs, one of thee most popular cars owned, and I couldn't even find a message post site. Finally, one day, I got so mad that I couldn't find one that I was bound and determined to seek out and find one. Sure enough, good ol' Yahoo found me one, first one on top. I was so happy. But then it took a month to get the password back, that was even more frustrating. All I could do was read other ppls posts. U couln'd believe how much I wanted to post something, just anything. Now that I can, I love it soo much. :D I hope that I always come here till I get old. The new mustangs I'll see in my time, well, I guess they'll fly sometime. I wonder if I'll ever see that. Can u imagine, drag races in the sky, sittin in your hoverpod, and two hoverstangs fly past u at speeds over 400 MPH, hehe. Now back to today.
Well, my Mustang is going to need lots of work, so that means lots of questions from ppl like PKRWUD, 6T9PONY, Unit 5302, well, there are so many other names, but I don't have them memorized yet, so if I left u out, plz don't hold it aginst me. Well, there was so much more I was going to say, but it all left as I was typing about the future thing. I thank u all for your help, and I will try to help other as much as I can. |
Nice Thoughts

|
Hehe....I remember those days arguing with PKRWUD. Turns out he does have a clue after-all....lol.
This was the first and only board I cared for. I tried a couple others briefly, but they never measured up to this place. I guess Ill take this opportunity to thank everybody for putting up with my wise crack remarks all the time..just having some fun. later |

This too was my first message board. I grew up on this board....learning quite a bit and even having the flame wars. I'm sure Mr 5.0 Can remember those! Its amazing to think back to what this site was back in the day. Who were the members back then???? I remember back in 99 Skyman and I were having a post war... AND I WAS WINNING! :D Boy times have sure changed. When I first came here I had just bought a 1989 Lx 5.0 and now look... I have a POS blown Cobra! :D Even though I have moved on through the years from message board to message board, MustangWorks will always be home. This site WILL PICK UP, I can assure you this site will be what it was and more! ;) As I continue to grow and mature I realize that this is probably just a phase (Mustangs) as much as I would like to think its not true. I am sad to say that in a year or so, once its paid off, I will sell my Cobra. :( I will move on and get a place with my own, probably with my girl. Man I still can't believe I was on here at the age of 19.... now look! Chris, Kell, Mr 5.0, Sky, and Dan.... wow you guys have been a crucial part of my 'growing up' on here and I want to say thanks. AND NO GIFT CERTIFICATES THIS YEAR!!!! :D Chris almost shot me when I brought that up again! |
I'm sad to say that I think I've been about one of the biggest post sluts on here lately....have about 150-200 or so in 2 weeks....:(
I feel so terrible now...like I was using you all....hehe....j/k |
damn 6t9pony you are cathing up to me hehe:eek: , go find your own street corner hehe just a jk;)
|
I want to get 1000....pretty soon....don't really have a set time for a goal I want to do it in...hehe....But I'd feel pretty damn special if I had that many.
If I keep up 100/week or so, I could have it by my 2 year mark! Hehe....Highly unlikely....but with how it's been going lately...I guess only time will tell....hehe.... |

It's been neat to meet some of the Mustangworks members, both the local ones (Jani,Mike & some others..) & others (like at last years Spring Break Shootout, I met Jeff Chambers). I guess I'm kind of opposite of a post ho, as I'm no where near the 1000 mark yet. I usually only post a reply when I have some useful advice or something relevant to say. I'd just like to reiterate that the Mustangworks members are among the best - otherwise I'm sure that alot of us wouldn't still be around after this long! Thanks again, Mustangworks! |
group hug?????
All I can say is that I am REALLY glad I found this place. I've been here so long that if I miss a few days or weeks without posting, I feel REALLY guilty and I feel like I missed soooooooo much. This too was my first mesgboard I was a member to. Out of all the Mustang boards I could have been a part of, how is it that I found this one?? I'm just really happy I did. The members and the people who run the board are just really awesome.
I could go on and on... but I won't. You people, male and female, have made a difference in my life. Thank you. :) |
Well, I thought I would chime in on this thread.
I've been here for a long time...over three years with only around 800 posts since September of '98. Most of the time I keep a fairly low profile. Like the others, I've seen a great number of people come and go. After a while, you get to know people just from reading their posts. It's good to know who you can specifically ask if you have questions, and it's fun to come to know people without ever even meeting or talking to them. When I registered, I didn't even have a Mustang. A short time later, I got my current car. I learned a great deal of what I know now by spending time on this site and from reading books and magazines. It wasn't until about two years ago that I even found some Mustang buddies to hang out with. In these three plus years, MustangWorks and its members have been my Mustang buddies. This is without a doubt the best Mustang related site on the internet. Absolutely, positively, without a doubt. Thanks to Dan for starting up this site and for keeping it on the cutting edge. And thanks to guys like Jim and all the other moderators who keep this site running. Here's to many more years, MustangWorks. --nathan |
This site was the first website i became a member of also.when i first registered i kept a low profile but the I became a little bit of a post *****. I am no longer the ***** i used to be and i keep coming back to mustangworks. I keep coming back to mustangworks because there is not much flaming that goes on here and when there is it is usually pretty minor. I am also registered on another site but is not nearly as nice a place to post because of teh amount of flaming that goes on.
i also feel like i know alot of u guys and girls on here and u guys have helped me out on problems i have had. I always look forward to videos posted and the pictures of ppls cars posted. Dan u have created a great place to come to adn the moderaters also do a great job at keeping this place in check(were all angels though:D ) I'll be around for a while JAMES |
I remember when 6T9 Pony was Benny Boy and now he has almost as many posts as me. When I first registered I also kept a low profile. Heck when I first registered here I had some POS Dodge Dynasty. Anyone remember that thing. Think I was the only one on the board with a non-performance type car.
|
Yeah I remember the days of having less than 100 posts and being referred to as "BennyBoy".....
AND I DO REMEMBER THE DYNASTY!!! The tranny went out on it right? That's why you ditched the thing....correct? Yeah I am catching up to you.....hehe...only about 175 to go.....should take me a few days.....hehe...... |
Being some what of a web designer at home I end up spending more time on the computer than I should, but when I take a break from all the numbers, HTML, and all the crap that goes with it I come here and relax.
I still to this day don't remember how I found this place, but it was the first message board I had ever seen and it opened my eyes to the possibilities that are out there when it comes to these cars. I've driven to Washington D.C and Knoxville Tennessee from little ol' Mecca Indiana just to gather parts for my Stang and have had a lot of fun doing it. I've met a lot of cool people along the way and consider them to be some of the coolest people I have ever met. stangsrule, fiveohpatrol ( just a punk yet, but he's still cool :D ), WADS56, and Jimberg and Rick 91GT (haven't met these two yet but it feels like I have). In one way or another these guys have all gone out of there way to help me and I sure appreciate it. If it wasn't for you guys my car would probably still be stock and I'd be rich. Is that good or bad? :p Great topic Unit!!! And fortune tellers are full of crap. Thanks guys! |
Just thought I'd poke my head back in here, and see whats going on. I was thinking that some of u were wondering why my name is what it is, well... when I first made it back in '98 Late part of the year, it was when I just got my '79 Mustang and also just a computer the same time. As u know, you have to have an online name for chat rooms and stuff like that, so I tried Mustangman, but that was taken. after sitting for a while, I came up with this name because i owned a '79, and wanted a '65. Well, I came close, I now own a '66 and '79, but there was no way I am going to change my name, I still want a '65. That's my story. So if u ever see this name somewhere else, it's probaly me.
Dang, I feel left out, I need a pic under my name. Wish i had a comp of my own, I have plenty on disk. |
Well written Unit 5302, this is really an amazing board. I've only been a member for a month and a half but I've learned so much from this site. Not only about Mustangs but about life. Everyone has there own opinion on life, and no one gets hassled about there opinion. It's just like 1 big happy family. You never see arguements, everyone just sit's back, relaxs, and enjoys this message board.
Keep up the great work guys, |
Well, everythings going good on this end, although these ad's are now starting to drive me nuts. But oh well, this site's worth it. Hey 1969Mach1, I finally past u up on posts-hehe
|
Well Unit, I must say that you made one hell of a great post. This isn't because it pumps up the site as being great really, but because you hit the nail on the head of why I founded The Mustang Works in the first place. The whole idea back in 1995 was to create a place on the Web for all the Mustang enthusiasts just beginning to come into the online world where they could all gather, share information, and communicate. A place where everyone with a Mustang could learn how to modify and race their pride and joy without making all the hard, and expensive, mistakes that I did and learning the hard way. I wanted to do something to help my fellow Mustang owners and make it easier for them than it was for me more or less.
I never realized at the time it would become as large and important to the Mustang world as it has today or a home for so many people, but it's been a nice surprise that so many people have, infact, come to think of this site as their home. Also as a place that they not only learn about their vehicle, but form online relationships and form friendships with many fellow enthusiasts. Some times friendships that move offline when they are able to meet them in person, which I think has been the best benefit of the entire MustangWorks.com story. I myself have come to know and form friendships with people I would have never even known, much less met, if it weren't for this Web site. And, in my own way, it's been amazing that I myself have been able to not only help people in this hobby, but also that I've been able to help effect / shape some of its history (which is a whole story into itself about all the ways MustangWorks.com has effected the Mustang aftermarket industry or peoples lives). All I can say though really is that this site would be nothing without all the usage and support that it receives from all of you, it's members, readers, and audience. And, the encouragement and praise that I've received from everyone here over the years has been what's really kept me going (and I'm sure the entire MW staff too!) and why I've continued to run this site despite the time, sacrifices, and money investment required to do so. Basically though, I'm just humbled that MustangWorks.com has the power to effect so many people's lives and that we definitely have the best Mustang community on the Net! |
you have done one hel- of a job dan, kudo's on this great site, btw pkrwud, im not a **** ,i charge thats why im broke, hehe oh yeah great iron maiden avatar, i have a tatoo of the album cover killers on my right shoulder blade . see ya, once again dan great job, you da man:D
|
Well, just to say it again...This site rocks! I also remeber the old post wars with Rebel and Sky, heck I was right there with them up to about 300 :). Guess I really fell behind on the posts, but I check in on the site almost daily. I am always keeping track of what is going on here and do feel like I personally know a lot of you.
It is wierd to have never met any of you, but to trust you all so much. The quality of the people on this site is unmatched, which is even more impressive considering the young age of a lot of members. It is great to see young and old respecting and helping each other on a variety of topics. |
This too is the first message board i've belonged to and basically still the only one (besides rare trips to the corral)
I wouldn't have know about it until a co-worker from a few years back showed me it (302man). Since then I've probably increased my mustang knowledge about 4,000,000% I never thought I would ever even change my intake by myself, let alone change head gaskets and pull the motor. The reason is because I didn't grow up with anyone to show me how engines work but i've always been curious and good with my hands. I think of you guys as my "dad" that has taught me how to work on cars :D now the only thing i'd be nervous about attempting is a gear swap. oh yah, i used to think 2FastLx was cool too, but after he called me a punk, i cried :D |

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. Some of the people I should really get to meeting live not 15min away from me. Good guys like jimberg and fordgasm. Both of them have been mysteriously missing lately!

Memories...
Like when I found this site with my then new "WebTV" in '98 Loathing that wrench toting guy standing on the piston Posting under the name BrandX...not realizing brand x is chevy! Asking tons of questions while my stang was in route to me when I was under the impression it had a T-56... Which it didn't Going to other mustang sites for short periods but always coming back to this one. Getting my MustangWorks T-Shirt in the mail! :D Meeting Sky and Fastang at Carlsbad, seeing sky run 13.5 or so on street tires, then trowing on slicks and ripping off mid 12's! Going to C'bad for a big meet and it was just Fastang and myself...Watching Jesse making runs with way too much engine for those bald DR's he had on! Getting an enormous amount of help when I asked a question or just by reading other ppl's questions... Never getting mentioned in other ppls posts about cool ppl they have met...:D Thanks for the site Dan... |
I've met a lot of cool people on this site....ESPECIALLY ed1371....hehe...there you go man! :D  :p

Kudos to Dan, the MW staff and our members
[Color=silver[/b]
Just wanted to get in on the group hug going on here! I've had the distinct pleasure of watching the Mustang Works Online magazine website grow and yes, mature, since I first logged onto it back in '97. I've been very proud to be a part of it as a contributor, Moderator and Administrator and I still enjoy visiting and contributing almost every day. Dan McClain, through his countless hours of work online and off plus his sizable financial contribution has made the site what it has become. Of course, without members the best site in the world is useless. Well, our members are the best. Knowledgable, friendly and helpful to the point that we can discuss anything with fear of ridicule. Lots of Mustang folks have been both helped and entertained through this website over the years and we're proud to have been a part of that. Our staff are hard-working, 'Stang-savvy and always willing to help members. No one gets paid, it's a 'labor of love'. As staff, we learn from our members, too (but we just don't talk about it much). Dan set a positive, classy tone for the website at the very beginning and I've tried to enhance and continue that since I've been here. So far, so good. We may not have the most messageboard traffic on a given day, but our forums are accessable, helpful and a good place to hang out to post or just 'lurk'. No raunchy B.S. that benefits no one, few flame wars and a lot of fun. That's the way we like it. I really appreciate the various member's kind words for the site, our founder and leader - Dan - as well as for our staff. We naturally enjoy the positive feedback and encourage you all to spread the word about Mustang Works Online.
