Question Intakes

I need an intake I heard that an exployer intake was a good cheap choice. But what years did the exployer come with a V8?

I'm not sure exactly what years they came on but somewhere around 1995-98. Chances are that you wont find one in a junk yard. It's easier just to search E-bay for one. There was also an ad in the magazines that had them real cheap, I think it was Diversified Products for like $225 but I'm not sure if they still have them or not.

I found mine from a member on this site (withamc). I got it for $150 and it is WELL worth it. It'll really wake your car up with the cam and ported stockers you already have.

The explorer intake is really close to the same thing as a Cobra or GT40 intake. The lower is the exact same as the other 2 but the upper is slightly different on the inside and causes it to flow just a little less than the other 2 (with the Cobra flowing just barely less than the GT40). The small difference in flow is well overlaid by the price difference you'll see. Plus you could always just throw on a GT40 or Cobra upper sometime down the line, it'll bolt right up to the lower.

Sorry I wrote so much. Good luck

1996-2001. The Cobra, GT-40, and the Explorer will give you about the same performance.

Default Hope unit5302 replies to this..

For UNIT, I'm trying to figure out the Explorer vs. Cobra vs. GT-40 intake problem, and I notice you know alot about these..

Since the explorer only put out 215 HP / 288 torque, does that mean that the intake is hurting this setup if it breathes so well?

Also, will dumping it onto my stock 94 5.0 change the torque curve, or will it just add throughout the range? Also how much HP could this upper support (the lower is the same for all 3 intakes right?)

How about porting the explorer, any #'s ??

Thanks a lot !
