running engine on stand?
ok i just realized this time i cant really swap engines in and out of the car . i have a new 393 twin turbo setup i was going to try and tune on the engine stand .
I geuss i need a complete wiring harness and computer . i have a trex pump run to a sealed gas can. stock maf and other components exhuast run out of the shop etc . not sure what i need to connect to the harness . ie fuel pump (normally hard wired to switch on stand) maf ,injectors tps . o2 sensors. i will be looking for a harness and computer next weekend at the wreckers. Anybody know any problems with running the engine this way ? it wont be going into the car untill spring . (or i get another car.)

I think what you have just described is basically and engine dyno that you cant get numbers from. What you are doing is the same as putting the motor on the dyno. you shouldnt have any problems.

We had two of these setups in school. One was a 400 Ford and the other was a Chevy engine I believe. They had the bell hosing on them so the starter could be mounted to it and was powered by a push button switch.

I envision an engine sitting on a $49 3 leg engine stand, and scream out NOOOO!!!!!! DON'T DO IT !!!!!!!! Then I wake up and realize you must have a more secure set-up than that.
Take care, -Chris

We have a setup in my high school auto shop where u can do that. we have the engine and transmission all hooked up together on a stand that sits pretty low to the ground. the stand is basically like a box shape that could be somewhat like a car frame. We have the starter hooked into a key ignition. They seem to work pretty well. I think they use normal motor mounts.
Later, Nick

yeah thanks guys its a 4 foot by 2 foot crate stand looks like a k member welder to 2 inch steel on wheels with a trans cross member and attachments to bolt on the scatter shield .
more secure than some engines ive seen in cars. i also added to torque staps after we fired up a 460 on it the . the name thing i was asking about is ive never run a fuel injected motor on it and wasnt sure about any probs hookind up the processor. i have a second harness but still need the same processor as in my 89 maf car. hey so why not run an engine on a 3 led stand we all need a laugh some times.
