V6, GT, Cobra, Cobra R, Shelby, Saleen.. What??

Ok, all over the net I see all these differnt types of mustangs, like Saleen and Shelby, Cobra too.. Why do they only put the V6 and GT on fordvehicles.com? How do you get any info on these cars? Whats so special about them?

The Cobra is made by SVT(specal vehicle team), which is a division of ford. Go to the SVT site to see the Cobra.

Saleens, Steedas, Roshes(sp?), exc. are not made by Ford. They are tuner cars. Ie, Steeda buy a Mustang and performs it's mods on it, then sells it to you.

How about Shelby?

Carrol Shelby got out of tuning cars in the mid 80's when he made up some front wheel drive Chryslers, other than that it's a tuner company that had strong ties with Ford in the late 60's. Shelby as a company no longer fixes up vehicles. I think i've seen a paint package, maybe offered by Shelby or some other company for mustangs to commemorate the shelby's of old, but there aren't any true shelby mustangs made anymore.

Save up your money for the 40th aniversary Cobra (The real Cobra) from Carroll.

He never really got out of tuning cars. Its mostly done now for his foundation to help kids.

Here he is.

There was a cool article in Sports Illustrated this month about Caroll Shelby. About his heart transplant to save his life and his life in general.

Whats so special about Shelbys, and Saleens? You don't know much about Mustangs do ya. Oh well everyone has to learn sometime.:D

Carrol Shelby was the MAN back in the 60's. He created some of the greatest Mustangs ever made like the 67 GT500, 67 Super Snake, and the 68 GT500 KR.

Steve Saleen is like a modern day Carrol Shelby. He has also made some wonderful Mustangs like the S289, S351, and the king of Saleen Mustangs the SR.

Both Shelby, and Saleen Mustangs are more powerful, look better, made in fewer numbers, and cost more than a GT or V6. Thats why people seem to talk more about these cars. :o

It's so clear to me now :). Yes, everyone has to learn sometime, so I figured I'd suck all the knowledge out of your brains here :).

I don't mean to pick a fight with The Fireman, but by '67 the shelby cars were getting watered down. The 1965 GT-350 is THE reason that the mustang is a legend car. Ford wanted to make a sport car out of it and Lee Iacoca tossed the project to his friend Carol. Those cars basically came from nowhere to win on the world stage and changed the way we looked at muscle cars. Galaxies were fast in the 1/4, but couldn't handle. Mustangs could now do both, and still do. That's my .02

I don't want to fight either The Deuce, and I know the GT350 was a kick *** car. But how can you say the 67's were "watered down"? I guess I can understand about the 69s + 70s, but the 67s?
