Watch MTV tonight at 9:00 pm central.(street racing special)

I think it will make for an interesting discussion tomorrow.

The preview looked interesting and entertaining.

Later,

DAN-MAN 08-08-2002 12:27 PM

I missed it. What happened? Who was on there? What'd they talk about?

Dan.

Hethj7 08-08-2002 03:07 PM

It comes on tonight (Thursday). "It" is an MTV show on street racing. Looks like it could be interesting, but I bet there is way to much rice in it.

Dark_5.0 08-08-2002 03:14 PM

I envy the import guys. It is almost impossible to be accused of drag racing when you only trap 70mph in the 1/4.

They get to have all the fun.

:D LOL!!!! That is sooo true. I guess all they can get is reckless driving since the excessive negative camber of their suspension causes them to wander and veer unexpectedly all over the road.....it may also just be their racing "style".

LayanRubr 08-08-2002 06:58 PM

Going to watch with buds tonite to make fun of it :D Also (small town here) is doing a local story about the "scene, yo" in the town for drag racing. Not even drag racing really  Oh well maybe I'll have some uncle bens rice tonite to better myself ;)

Stang_Crazy 08-08-2002 08:29 PM

It comes on in a half hour and I don't know if I'm going to watch it or not. I know if I don't watch it, I'll regret it and would wander just how bad they portrayed street racing...on the other hand, if I watch it, I know I'm going to be yelling at my T.V. and throwing things at it in frustration at what I am seeing. Should make for some VERY interesting and heated conversation.

jj_jonathon 08-08-2002 10:03 PM

what a JOKE....all crappy imports...erg! i was waiting for a 2003 cobra to roll through and kick all their asses! lol...

Stang_Crazy 08-08-2002 10:15 PM

oh jees

Well, I watched it and all I can say is that I have my 6-pack back now. I laughed so much throughout the show that it almost hurt. The guy "Greg" was the $hit with his Integra. Oh boy, it had 220 hp... and with nirtous it had 320 hp. And everyone thought he was the poop. That's too bad it kept breaking down on him :D

What about the cheesy police man. "People always ask, don't you have anything better to do? And our answer is...well, no we don't" And he had that little half smile/laugh going while he said that. It was funny to see the cops bust out the tape measure to measure the ride height of that one car. He got busted for all kinds of stuff. Hehe. And I didn't know that I needed the proper "papers" for my "modified" air intake. HAHA

That show was a GROSS display of what REAL racing is NOT about. Why were there like 500 kids standing around and only 1 or 2 races?? I can't wait to see how many cops are gonna be out in the next week because of this program.

The only good part of the show was the little 5 minute piece about how street racing was dangerous and how you might get hurt or even killed. But after that piece, they went back to showing more racing. Hmmm, wonder why they did that? Well that's all that I can rant for now...

LayanRubr 08-08-2002 10:29 PM

Yeah, Stang_Crazy, your right. The police section was the only good part. The rest was all crap. It was just dumb ;) Btw, for all who missed it they'll defintely show re-runs sometime during the day.

Dark_5.0 08-08-2002 10:46 PM

I actually enjoyed it and IMO this is what street racing is all about. Put up or shut up and put your money where your mouth is. Those import guys had more balls than most domestic guys I know. I thought that the 4 door integra was a reel sleeper.

Maybe I am just strange, but the seemed to be legit to me:cool:

Later,

The Deuce 08-08-2002 11:39 PM

Going to have to look for it on the net, because I don't have cable. Unless somebody recorded it and wants to mail me a copy, hint hint.

jj_jonathon 08-08-2002 11:48 PM

fast and the furious was just on hbo....man..everytime i see that charger pop that wheelie i get chills...hehe...its a wonderful reminder as to how great american muscle is....and all those damn ricers who "learned" from TFATF seem to always forget the ending......that supra was supposed to symbolize the faster import in the movie...yet without his nitrous he was nothing compared to the charger...booya! i love that car...

That show SUCKED last night! I would like to have seen some real street gatherings with tons of cars, etc, I guess.
Hey JJ: I'll be in Gainesville this weekend and may head out to the track Sat afternoon...you gonna be out there?
Take it easy & let me know!
later!

All of those cars were big POSs.

It was fairly entertaining. None of those cars was anything special.

Those cops were real jerk-offs. Did you see them trying to bust that kids balls for a cold air intake? I would've told the cop "Show me where it's illegal to have a different air filter and then you can tow my car. Otherwise, go find some thug-gang-banger-murderers and earn your pay tonight." I don't know, those pigs really rubbed me the wrong way. That one dude was like "maybe if I wink at her she'll let me off". Hilarious.

Did anyone see the white 95 GT convertable that was split in half from a wreck? They showed a couple of pictures of it. Ouch.

Coupe Devil 08-09-2002 09:31 AM

Im glad the show came on and protrayed street racing the way it did... Think about this folks.. The entire show was import this, import that, visor's turned around backwards and upside down, saggin pants " Yo dog " BULLSHEOT. Now, we all know that we dont like to see this. However, as the comment was made earlier the cops ( the ones that seen this show ) are going to start cracking down on these " Modified Cars " Now, we also know that a true Stanger will mod his or her car for performance first and looks later.. So while these cops are busting these rice mobiles with body kits, huge wings and huge wheels and a lowered non-performance oriented stance, we will be driving by in our CLOSE (maybe wheels and a cowl hood) to stock appearing Mustangs. I for one am glad that the majority of the show wasnt about Domestic power.

When a television show comes on about Performance Domestic Cars, its is almost all of the time a Documentary. With highlights from manufacturers, owners etc. and a focus on an over all performance of the vehicle, whether it be a classic Boss 302 or a new Camaro.

The typical " Ricer " image was futher ground into the eyes of every Police officer in America last night that watched the show. Now when a police officer sees a Mustang, Camaro, or the like of a performance car on the street, next to a riced out Civic, Integra or the like, Which do you HONESTLY think he would be more apt to pull over. Take into consideration that the night before he had watched the Rice show on MTV and then switched over to the Discovery Channel and seen a Documentary on the history of performance cars in America. Seeing, stupid KIDS all acting like hoodlums, or watching Performance car owners talking about the breed, and the love of the. .I know which I would pull over..Sorry for the long rant. Just needed to clear some things up

I sat on the couch, drank a few beers and just shook my head during most of it.

Oh, where do I start...

Near the beginning, I don't know if anyone else picked up on this, but the guy with the Japanese VTEC whatever right-sided driver setup deal-E-O stated that he has about $60,000 in the car. I about fell off the couch and spilled my beer. Don't worry, I didn't spill the beer.

$60,000 for a 220 HP 4-banger...........ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! The F-ing thing wouldn't even start, then on top of that he blew up the ultra-high tech Japanese motor. Absolutely some of the best entertainment I've seen on TV in a while.

There was another snipet where I think it was the guy with the 4-door Integra was talking about how he crosses the finish line "at like 110 mph." All I was thinking is that they must have been racing the 1 mile, instead of the quarter mile. :D

The other thing that really struck me as funny was the 'Transmission Graveyard." I've never seen so many busted tranny's - and I thought the T5's were weak...

All in all it was some good entertainment. The banter amongest the racers was probably the best part.

Oh, and Will never got his $500, maybe that was the best part.

i think the air intake cant be modified in cali....i dunno though....theyre strict about smog crap....i guess someone from cali would have to inform us....?

induction 08-09-2002 12:39 PM

Smog device law

If your in Cali ya cant touch the smog devices ! Everything says " for off road use only" Down to the fart cans. Hey PKRWUD whats the cutoff point 1972 ?

89 Cobra LX 08-09-2002 01:41 PM

CA law ignorant

I knew CA was tough, but air filters and mufflers? Come on!

Maybe someone with CA knowledge can enlighten us, but I would think a muffler and or air filter would keep you legal. Isn't that why companys pay to have their parts C.A.R.B. certified?

induction 08-09-2002 02:03 PM

Yes , it's true air filters all the way to the mufflers. Just try and get a smog test here with anything mising or not replaced with the proper parts ha! man even a misrouted or broken vacume line can make you blow hot (fail) dont even think of removing the cat. most muffler shops wont touch it unless ther replacing it!

Ya gotta know someone that does the testing to pass the test if your car is modafied

P.S. I am in Southern California
Example : on my '65 it has a hose from the air cleaner to the pcv valve only the California cars had them ( not that it needs to be there now the car is exempt from smog so anything goes . but im fairly shur thats only up to 1972 or commercial .

89 Cobra LX 08-09-2002 02:20 PM

what a sucky deal

I really thought as long as it was C.A.R.B. certified you would be able to pass the inspection..... assuming you passed the sniffer part. Otherwise, these companies are wasting their time and money getting C.A.R.B. certification.

Thanks, Induction.

induction 08-09-2002 02:37 PM

I don't know all the rules but If it has a C.A.R.B. cert it may still only be approved for off road use only in California what a great state hua?! Not only must it pass the sniffer test it must also pass a visual test. Welcome to the Golden state ( its all about the cash):( PKRWUD is the carb guy im shur he can help us out with this.

Rev 08-09-2002 03:08 PM

CARB

Wouldn't the guy with the K&N have been legal if he had had the CARB sticker under the hood? I'm no expert on Ca. law, but I think that's how it goes. Check with PKRWUD on that,. I bet he knows.

I loved the explanation from the cop about suspension mods being illegal. "We have no way of knowing the quality of the after market part or the quality of the installation". Personally I doubt that many cops know much about suspensions at all.

I agree with you and I think if he had the sticker at all it was mixed in with all the rest stuck on the trunk or rear window .lol
As for the suspension mods thats just a runoff they use from the headlamp adjustment laws " if the headlamps are too low then the driver cant see correctly " so lets see what else is unsafe oooooooooooohhhhhhhhh the whole car sits too low that must mean he can't safely clear the reflectors in the road hummmm...... must be worn-out suspension parts or ect. ect. Now this car "cant be safe on my highway" =impound and fees paid to the city.

Do I sound bitter?

Yes, and I certainly don't blame you either. You know it'll just be a matter of time before all states copy those laws so the fuzz and courts can just hammer people at will about their cars. The usual plan is just to pass so many laws that almost everyone will be in violation of some of them. Then, when they want to, they can just go down a checklist until they find a violation or three or four. Then impoundment fees, towing fees, fines, storage fees, court costs, ad finitum.

induction 08-09-2002 04:32 PM

Hey , MR 5 0 do ya have any info on this?

The Deuce 08-09-2002 05:08 PM

CA Smog

As far as I know, anything goes on my '72. Didn't have to get it smogged, car barerly runs, but can be tagged.

It is my understanding that anything south of the cats is not governed by the smog laws. There are "drive by" noise laws in CA, and you can in trouble for those. I know plenty of guys that run flows, and there is no problem changing the muffler.

As far as intake is concerned, there is the dreaded "visual inspection" This is where you get nailed for missing hoses, etc. They do not open the airbox to check what kind of filter is in there. So a K&N filter in itself is not going to get you into trouble.

More drastic mods, like heads, headers and CAI's are a gray area. They will pass the sniff test, but not always the visual. I hear there are ways to find people that won't bust you if you only fail the visual part, but I cannot be held to that statement, especially since my car is S-T-O-C-K.

If anyone has specific questions, please make it known you have them and attempt to get them answered via PM.

induction 08-09-2002 05:32 PM

Thanks Deuce I was starting ta get in over my head lol I didn't know about the south end . Dammit why do I keep learning new things everyday ?!!:D I'm mot sure if I have much space left up there and all of you just keep packing it in . Oh well I gotta go and get more "brain food" 20-50 see ya!:D

All I could say was poor Mustang. I thought it was hilarious. The guy spent $60,000 on a 320 horse v-tech. What a moron.

Mopar1 08-10-2002 01:44 PM

Guess it aint like it used to be. Would have liked to have seen some old muscle. A Vega with a v-8 chopped in it, would have brought back some memories.

The Fireman 08-10-2002 02:08 PM

All I had to say about that show was STUPID RICERS. Seeing that Mustang after it was hit didn't help much either.

For 60k he could of easily gotten a Vette and pumped it into the 10's in the 1/4  or even a ricer! But its still 320 hp?

Stang_Crazy 08-10-2002 10:17 PM

aww man, 320 hp?? Wow he's my idol  Did you see when he was at the hangout and everyone was checking his car out...he had his driving gloves on!!! Yep, he must need driving gloves to tame that beast. At least when it started HAHAHA :p

Stang Obsession 08-10-2002 11:15 PM

Hey guys..
Want to know something funny?! When I saw the previews for that show, it reminded me of the city I live in. I about died laughing. Most of my friends drive ricers and I can guarantee you that someone's going to be racing every night. However, I missed the show but from the sounds of it, it was no big loss?! :o

0h n0 5.0 08-11-2002 02:28 PM

i dunno i suppose it is easier to mod a piece of crap beater you already own.. than buying a real car in the first place

jeeze $60K!!!, hey bud! heres a quarter, buy a clue. buy a zo6, an 03 cobra, ws6, SS, an really eat some ricer lunch...

StangFlyer 08-11-2002 03:37 PM

Did anyone tape the show? I missed it... Love to see what everyone is laughing about.. :D

driving gloves? that even further emphasizes why we call them nerd cars around here. what a joke!

MidNiteBlu 5.0 08-12-2002 12:00 AM

Yes california has crappy visual inspections. I think it a bunch of ******* BS because most of the cars pass smog with flying colors in the actual sniffer test but then "ooh thats illegal"

You have to have a CARB sticker on any kind of intake like that. Thats why im not buying a BBK one anymore because ive never seen something that says 50 state legal on it.

Oh and if anyone saw that thing about qualcomm stadium "track" thats the only place i have around here except carlsbad which is an hour away. That track is such a POS and they only run twice a month at most, have super strict tech, and you have to wear a helmet no matter how fast you are and of course you have to pay like 15 bucks. Also its so damn packed ive heard people only get like 2 runs a night. Its a whole lot of BS around here to see the damn news anchors complain about how bad street racing is.

YES I AM BITTER!! :D

Yeah they wear driving gloves so they can slap each other to challange to madd skillz street race yo  And btw, I dont know much about 4 cyclinder cars but wtf were they do launching at 5k before there runs for no reason? They didnt even lay mucb rubber to be a burnout... I'm sure theres a logical reason...
