what do you consider fast?

range of quarter mile times........preferably street cars (most of us don't have full=fledged dragsters)

edit: my question was inspired by this thread

joe4speed 10-14-2002 02:11 PM

under 12's is fast.

That's my opinion, of course, and it has nothing to do with people that drive imports, you know I'm pretty unbiased, i just like the speed! :)

The Deuce 10-14-2002 02:16 PM

All times on street tires.

<12.5=Fast
12.51-13.9=Quick
13.9-14.9=Decent
15.0-15.9=Alright
16.0+=hope you had a/c on

Kamaro Killer 10-14-2002 02:39 PM

I'd agree with Mike

I agree with The Deuce's view of fast, Keith

silver_pilate 10-14-2002 02:52 PM

That also depends a great deal on your elevation. Up here, anything in the 13's and down I'd consider fast. Some are just much, much, much faster than others.

Note that this doesn't include my car. I know I've got 13's in it, but the demons have held me back :(.

digital3.3 10-14-2002 02:57 PM

i gotta agree, 12 seconds and lower is fast. 13's are decent though.

Deuce: Drag radials??

here's my list all motor no power adders.

under 12.5 = fast
12.5 - 12.99 = quick
13.0 - 13.49 = respectable
13.5 - 13.99 = decent
14.0 - 14.49 = not bad
14.5 - 15.0 = hope it's stock

right now my car is borderline between decent and respectable :D

if your running under 12.5 on regular street tires CALL ME!!

of coarse not all cars can realy be grouped together it all depends on what car your talking about.

Yeah, do drag radials count? They are DOT approved and therefore, I think they should definitely be considered 'legal' in this whole quick/fast/decent analysis. I run them on street frequently. Heck, my 12.65 @ 110 run was on drag radials and in 'street' trim.

No. I was thinking true street tires, ie the same model up front and back. If you want to waste DR's on the front, then you may have found the loophole.:D

Red514LX 10-14-2002 04:23 PM

Fast in 2002? I'd say any car that runs 125+ in the 1/4

Funny thing is...if you would have asked me this question back in 1996....I would have said 115+ However, there are a few cars that do that number today bone stock!! It's sickening...

Stang Runner 10-14-2002 05:24 PM

Under 12's is fast I would have to say...

POISNUS 10-14-2002 07:46 PM

I just ran a 12.47@114 in the 03 on the stock rubber, with only a drop in K&N filter, BBK X-pipe, and Flowmaster Cat-back.

The 89 runs 11.0's on motor (357 with iron roush 200 heads, Demon carb), and should be 9's on spray, but I ran 10.27@131 and lifted a cylinder head (had water in three cylinders on the passenger side bank).

I agree that 12's and faster is pretty damn fast. 13's are real respectable.

Thanks,

Jason

tireburner163 10-14-2002 08:16 PM

It's hard to run 12's on plain 'ole street tires. Skyler only runs mid 13's on street tires.

jj_jonathon 10-14-2002 08:42 PM

....how fast a cat runs after you set its tail on fire :p:p;)

well you know, in the grand scheme of things, we move just about as fast as a 12sec car anyways...esp if you consider the speed of light (c=300,000,000 meters/second)....even those damn rocket cars are still about as fast as us walking around.....

this is not cbring 10-14-2002 10:02 PM

what i think is fast

15's = respectable
14's = quick
13's and better = fast

mustangII460 10-14-2002 10:29 PM

My idea fast is when your screaming your lungs out with extreme excitment, your ears wet from the grin on your face and you feel like a kid on Chirsmas morning.

Thats fast to me. Can't always be put into numbers.

fiveohpatrol 10-14-2002 11:37 PM

I look at the type of car/motor before I classify it as fast.

a 13second import is pretty fast IMO
a 13second mustang is not, once again IMO

a 9second crotch rocket is fast
an 11second crotch rocket isnt

my car is slow to me, it always will be. The only fast car I will ever drive is a top fueler:D

PKRWUD 10-15-2002 06:32 AM

I've said it before: The only time I ever pissed in my pants was as the passenger in a blown and juiced 427 Vega while doing a 9 second 1/4.

That's fast.

Take care,
~Chris

can we say g-forces??

96SNAKE 10-19-2002 09:29 PM

I'll dig this old one up. I used to think my car was until the bike, Now I just think of it as quick. For me to be impressed, the car or bike must be in the 10 sec or less 1/4 mile range to get my attention these days. :D :p

ultraflo 10-19-2002 11:46 PM

12 - respectable
11 - quick
10 - fast
9 - even faster :)
8 - sick
7 - insane
6 - nutz (cause it takes two big ones to go into that territory)

...ET ranges for a doorslammer, not dragsters (aka rails) or funnycars ;)

11's are fast for plain ol' stock radial treads.... IMHO;)

Dude, if anybody's running 15's in the 1/4, then they're more than likely an inexperienced driver or they're driving the fastest import  .

14's, any stock mustang gt can accomplish that easy with a good driver.

13's, ok, not fast, but ok

12's or faster, very good and very respectable.

My 2 1/4 cents.

Daniel.

Hehe i bet that was a hell of a ride. There was a guy with a Vega at the track last night. 400 CI small block Chevy, 1050 dominator, 200 shot of nitrous, ran a 6.6 at 111 in the 1/8  Keep in mind this is at qualcomm which is even shittier traction wise than carlsbad. guy was spinning pretty much 1/4-1/2 way down the track

Later,
Nick

Coupe Devil 10-20-2002 01:39 AM

Well basically there is a difference in fast and quick.. so 160 + MPH is fast.. no matter how long the distance... as far as quick... a mid 11 is nice. a 10 is better and a 9 or lower is just a dream at this point. You gotta remember, my best 1/8th mile comes out to a 14.2 1/4...

Very good point! :)

150mph must be considered fast by the sanctioning bodies since vehicles traveling in excess of that mph must have a parachute... right?

A good example is that, out of a pair of cars drag racing, one may be quicker than the other, while the 'slower' car may be faster... factors such as traction, weight, etc. play into the equation then.

Thanks for getting me, and hopefully the others, straightened out on that Bradley ;)

this is not cbring 10-21-2002 08:51 AM

why i think 13's are fast............

i just counted the last 50 cars that drove past my window........barring any huge sleepers, i didn't see a single car that looked capable of running 13's...............i saw maybe 4 cars that MIGHT be able to run 14's (audi tt, 94-98 stang gt, new bimmer 3 series, and a pontiac GTP)

sure, i could say that nothing that runs 10's or higher is fast.........but then i may never actually see a "fast" car on the street

i would consider this a pretty good range

there are way too many 13 sec cars running around these days that it just feels normal to me :)
now if you jump back in time to the mid 80's then 13's would have been something to be proud of as a street car, but these days eh too common.

84LX89GT 10-22-2002 08:14 PM

this is not cbring brings up a good point. When i was in high school, someone who had a 15 second car had a "fast car". My friends think my car is "insanely fast", even though 80% of the people on this site have a faster car than i do.

There's a BIG difference in TRACK fast and STREET fast especially when comparing your car against most cars you see on the street. Also, there's a guy at my work that runs slicks and mild mods on his '92 GT and ran a 13.54@99.?mph in great weather launching at 5500 rpm, whereas my GT would probably waste his on the street but my ET/traction-driving sucks.

It's all comparative. i suppose anything that has the potential to run a low 14 and under is fast, 12's very fast, 11's really really fast, 10's nuts, 9's and under insane. 15 and 16 second cars are ok....fast enough to easily merge into traffic, 17 and above are SLOW.

86 Grand Marqui 11-24-2002 07:01 PM

It is all a matter of perception.Down here in South Florida,If you have a vehicle that you can drive at least 50 miles, like to the track, IF you can run at least an 11.5 with NO NOS,you are good to go.However, IF you have BIG MONEY in your car, You better be fast.

WTF? You dig up an old thread and then don't even make sense.

Eric4Nitrous 11-24-2002 08:06 PM

under 12's is fast to me. 7 seconds is fun. :) 6's are gonna be even better.

ultraflo 11-24-2002 08:15 PM

wtf are you talking about Eric!?!?!?:) Every 6 sec door-slammer car I've ever watched go down the 1320 makes me think to myself "that was INSANE"

...especially the ones that get a little outta shape and still run a 6.xx

Eric4Nitrous 11-24-2002 08:20 PM

I hope i can dip into the 6's with this new car. I've wanted it sooo long. I came so close last year but didn't do it. I'm wanting a 6 second slip.

Flip that 6 over (9) and I can totally relate... I was a mere .04 seconds away from a single digit ET before the block let go :(

It was a blast while it lasted, though! :D

Sounds like it was a "blast" at the end, too.

:)

ultraflo 11-24-2002 08:51 PM

LOL, it was more of a "POP!!!" than a blast... maybe more like "POOFFFFF!!!" ..er, no, maybe... lol :D

One thing that blew my mind, is that the rotating assembly, cam, and belt drive all made it through unharmed... although I had to cut the dislodged cam bearings out to remove the cam. Once the block split down the middle, for some reason, the cam bearings didn't want to stay where they're supposed to be  ;)

I got lucky... in a strange sort of way, I guess

Eric4Nitrous 11-24-2002 08:54 PM

Hey Ryan, are you interested in becoming a crew member for me? No joking aside? If you are we can talk out some things. One guy moved back to alabama to be with his family..so he can't help me. And noboby around this area knows what it takes..and isn't dependable.

ultraflo 11-24-2002 09:05 PM

I really would like to Eric, however, I will be going back to work for my dad soon and am unable to make any other commitments at this time... I have no idea what will be asked of me this spring in terms of my job, though I have been guaranteed time off to go racing.

If I were in any position to travel, I would be more than willing to do so... I'll let you know if anything comes up that will allow me to join your efforts.

I sincerely appreciate the offer! :)

Eric4Nitrous 11-24-2002 09:14 PM

no problem. They'll be a spot open for ya. I figured since we got along so good you'd be a good person to have as a crew member.

Crazy Horse GT 11-24-2002 09:21 PM

does this mean i aint the crew chief anymore. lol:D :D :D :D :p

89mustanglx 11-25-2002 02:22 AM
