Lightbulb Cobra comments

My guess is about $34,000. for the coupe and $37,000 for the convertible. Plus sales tax (over $2,000. in my state) and whatever else the dealers can find to jack up the price.

Out-the-door price on a coupe will probably be close to $37,000., 40 large on a ragtop.

Worth it? I dunno. Maybe.

A base-model 2002 C5 (350 HP) runs almost $41,000. and carries a cachet that even a Mustang Cobra can't (quite) match at this date.

A Z06 model runs $49,000. but offers 405 HP and fantastic performance across the board.

Frankly, the Cobra - at $35,000. or so - isn't really an affordable car any more and if I was going to get into that kind of spending for a vehicle I might as well think about the base 'Vette with it's higher resale and one-of-a-kind status.

Since I can't come close to affording either one I'll just stay with my trusty old '90 LX but if I was buying new I would still go with a Mustang GT. Not a 'Vette or a Cobra but affordable and with a few mods it can be an easy 13-second daily driver which is what the Mustang has always been about, anyway.
