What kind of gauges is everyone installing?
Besides a tach, what kind of gauges is everyone installing? I have a GT and it has all I need. Granted, its not the most accurate but what else do I need? Just wondering....

Most run more accurate gauges (than factory) for the water temp, and oil pressure.
[I hate when someone says... "my engine is running at the "R" in normal...] THen you can add oil temp (for us roadracers), or fuel pressure and boost gauge (for the blower guys)... Search in the archives for electrical/mechanical discussions.

Auto meter oil pressure and temp currently...
coming shortly, oil temp and vacuum......... just depends on what your interested in monitoring.. if your running hard on an auto, in may not be a bad idea to run a temp guage on that....

Must have a tach. Additionally, I always install AutoMeter Sport Comp, 2 5/8" mechanical water temp, oil psi, vacuum and volts in every vehicle I buy, minimum. Some, like my race Buick, also get trans temp, oil temp, and fuel psi. Actually, that one got a fuel level gauge and tach as well because I ended up building my own dash. If you have forced induction, then you would obviously substitute a boost/vacuum gauge for the vacuum gauge.
Take care, ~Chris

I plan on installing fue psi and boost gauges when my blower gets here. I wanted to get the gauge cage that retains the vents on each side bu everywhere I look, I can't find a fuel pressure gauge with an isolator so I can mount it inside. Can anyone help me?? Oh yea, I'm going to need a 0-100psi gauge.

and also the "standard" monster tach on the dash.

I use water temp., oil pressure, and tranny temp (aod). in the gauge POD , and the tach on the dash.
All electric, the only way to go IMO, and and I agree, the ultra lights are nice. Accurate and good looking. |

Im sorry i gotta ask. Why do you AOD guys have tacks?? Unless you have manual valve bodies whats the point, looks? Just curious. P.S. Do you guys think it would look like crap to have the stock analog gauges with digital gauges in pods on the A pilliar, etc.

A manual valve body is part of every automatic transmission. Its what connects to the shift lever, so you can manually select gears.
It amazes me why people think automatic cars arent deserving of a good tach? Are you aware that a built up automatic is better at the strip than a stick? You dont think the guy in the auto needs a accurate tach. and shift light? Why not? Most cars with mods also have tranny mods if thier autos. |

I understand what you are saying about AOD mods. But i dont understand i see all these guys with AOD mods or not (ford or not) why isnt the factory tach enough? Thats alot of money for something you really can do with out. I can understand if you are manually shifting the trans but if your just throwing it in drive and mashing the gas whats the point. (im not trying to be snotty, just in case you may be taking it that way, just a curiousity ive had.) thanks

I see your point PKRWUD. I have owned an automatic. 1 out of 3 was an auto. Im mostly a stick guy. I have heard the factory ones arent that accurate so i guess i can see it now.
