What would you do??

I really love my 89 but that Terminator is really calling my out. My car is pretty nice(in my opinion) but it has a few tuning issues that I need to work out. It 'needs' a new 2 1/2" hood, rear end needs alittle work, charger needs upgrading, needs a rollbar(for the track), 130 amp alternator.. you know.. the finishing touches that will cost a few thousand and the car will be done.

I could part it out and sell it or sell it like it is(did I mention I love this car?). I've had the car since 91, I was 22 at the time. I think the car is really a big part of me but I know the terminator could be as well..

I know the decision is mine but... What would you do??

Hammer 01-16-2002 11:33 PM

I'd go Terminator.... "Ah'll Be Baahck..."

OnMy3rdStang 01-17-2002 12:37 AM

I have never gotten rid of any of my cars...Too much sentimental value plus I want to have Buku cars LOL

This is just me but I would stop with the mods on the 89 and start on the Terminator and when you get more finacially stable then you can start back up on the mods on the 89

Thats just my opinion

Topless In Texas 01-17-2002 04:07 AM

you asked! :)

I'd buy a Shelby GT350....was that an option????? hehehe

95mustanggt 01-17-2002 09:30 AM

While I'm sure that your older stang is very nice, the Terminator will be a collectors car. It will hold value and be very rare (not that good condition Fox's are easy to come by). I imagine that I'll only see a couple Terminators driving around, and this is only if I stay in Dallas, 'cause nobody in Canada will have one.

I'd go Terminator.

7000rpmisheaven 01-17-2002 01:33 PM

This is my opinion. The appeal behind the terminator is that it is rare and will be a collectors item. But I wouldn't care about everyone else. The terminator, 20 years from now, would most likely be more valuable than a regular fox. But I don't care about that either. I love my mustang and it is priceless to me.

moc 01-17-2002 07:27 PM

Cool

Only problem with that is ! what you could do yourself ,and what everybodys been doing now for about 13 yrs.. ford will escalate the price ,and it probably won't be worth it . mark my words..

RAGE_5.0 01-17-2002 08:04 PM

how much would you want for your car?

rbatson 01-17-2002 09:46 PM

RAGE, I could part it out and put it close to stock and clear a good little bit though if I were to sell it.. I'd rather sell it like it sits. I wouldn't consider less than $10k for the car, as it sits. That may seem high to you but it seems low to me... I think that is a reasonable price. $10k would be a good down payment on a Terminator. I wouldn't pay over $39k for a Terminator though.. I have a bad feeling they are gonna want close to $45k for it, in which case... I'd rather buy a used z06 or keep what I have.

Stang_Crazy 01-17-2002 11:16 PM

I'd go for the Terminator also. But it doesn't matter if it's going to be a collectors car or not. I can't see buying a car for 40K just to let it sit because it's a collectors car. Cars are meant to be driven.

Topless In Texas 01-17-2002 11:23 PM

Gotta love them Shelbys!!!

The reason I would want a Terminator is because it has 400+hp. That is 400hp and NO TUNING INVOLVED and a warranty to boot:). That is the only reason a Terminator is appealing to me. I would actually rather it not be collectible so I wouldn't feel guilty about having some fun in it. If I were to sell my car to get this car.. it would replace the 89, meaning it would be a daily soldier and be ready for the daily grind.

Unit 5302 01-18-2002 12:20 AM

Quite frankly, I don't trust any of those independant predictions on a Mustang model that Ford hasn't begun production on. The Terminator doesn't fit within Ford's current philosophy or charachter.

I remember the 1994 Mustang GT was going to have a high revving 4.6L making 350hp too. That was about 1992.

rbatson 01-18-2002 11:40 PM

AHHhhhh Haha!! Thanks for that link moc! I don't care what they call it.. Coupe is priced at $35k?? That is music to my ears!! If they build a vert, which I hope they will.. It can be had for around $37k. Man!! $37k and running mid 12s stock... what more can a Ford fan ask for?!?!

tireburner163 01-18-2002 11:58 PM

Well my guess is that Ford will jack the price sky high. I'd say keep you car and finish it. You could build a car that would smoke a Terminator for less than Ford is asking for one. BUT, the Terminator would be new, and it would have a warrenty.

i totally agree!

Mach 1 01-19-2002 01:53 AM

Im with Unit on this one.

Wait until they actually make the dang thing before you start worrying about it.

it might not even ever make it into production.

And if if does, I wouldnt run out to buy one, because they will just come out with something better the following year. Like they did with the Lightning. Would you be pissed if you shelled out $30K for a new lightning, then the very next model year, they make many nice improvements to it? I know I would!

moc 01-19-2002 01:58 PM

I want a ride !!!!

i don't care when they build it ,i just want rbatson to take me for a ride hehe then i can get one to
;)

rbatson 01-22-2002 11:38 PM

No problem MOC!! :) I need to call an SVO dealer and go ahead and put an order in, I guess. I can swing it now but(hopefully) in a year from now it will be much easier for me.

If this car doesn't come through then I may shop the lightning, that is a pretty sweet truck.

Mach 1 01-23-2002 01:37 AM

The Lightning is a REAL SWEET truck. If i had the financial means, there would be one in my gargage as we speak.

GO For IT!

Just dont get the first year of the new style, as they made major improvements in the latest version.

I believe it has a different intake manifold, gearing, and a few other things that I cant remember off the top of my head. Didnt it go up like 20-30 HP rating also?

Dan the Man has one, maybe he can tell us what the deal is. Whatever happened with the lady who swiped his door? Did she pay or walk away?

Mercury 01-23-2002 04:03 AM

I believe the lightning had a 15 Hp increase. And they had changed the rear gear.

The Horse Power increase came from a diffrent MAF, and a diffrent Intercooler and Intake. I think the only thing that was diffrent about the blowers was the holes for the mounting.

As for the name of the "Terminator", I could care less what they called it. I wouldnt care if they called it the Powder Puff Princess Express Mustang. Its supercharged, Its got a 4V 4.6, It would haul A**.

I get sentimentally attached to my vehicles. I would say sell your Fox, and get the Terminator, but I dont actually know what I would do if I was in your shoes.

ALthough.....The Mach 1......Thats more in my price range. If they keep the 4V motor, and the Ram-Air, then I will seroiuisly consider selling my 2000 GT to get me a Mach 1, that is if I dont have it payed off by then. If I do, I'll just keep my 2000 GT, and see what I can do about getting me my Mach 1.

rbatson 01-24-2002 10:01 PM

Thanks for all the input guys!! It has given me ALOT to think about.

rbatson 01-25-2002 12:05 AM

TNT, you really got me to thinking of older cars and something I've always wanted. What do you guys think of this car? I've wanted one since I was a kid, a very young kid. My dad had one, I practically grew up in it.. ahhhh, memories:)

http://images.traderonline.com/EMedi...0235092303.jpg

GOD, I could see me driving that!!

Mach 1 01-25-2002 12:41 AM

sweet. what is it?

a 68' Cougar would be my guess. I dont care for the vinyl top, but other than that...

I remember this girl I dated in high school. She lived in a small, modest house, with an un attached garage out back in the alley.

To my surprise, I find out her dad has a 70' cougar eliminater tucked away in there! I couldnt believe it. I never even knew the guy liked cars.

Maybe I should have stuck with her? that car could be mine today!

rbatson 01-25-2002 01:01 AM

Good guess Mach, its a 67. I searched the 68s as that is what my dad had but this 67 is as close to what I'd like as I could find. It has a 302 in it and he wants $4500. I was thinking, for the price tag on the terminator(cobra special or whatever) I could have just about all the cars I wanted in the past and 1/3 of the money to build a garage to put them in. I'd love to have a 67-68 cougar, a 89-90 XR-7, a GN and a 91 lx notch... what a garage full that would be:)

Mach 1 01-25-2002 02:00 PM

hey, when you get that garage filled up, I wanna come over and play!
