what's with all the new cars now?
I just got my Motor Trend mag. and it has a new buyer's guide list of cars for 2002/2003.
Example: *Buik Regal - Opt engine 3.8L/240HP *Chrysler Concorde-opt engine 3.5L/234HP *Infiniti I35 - 3.5L/260HP *Infiniti Q45 - 4.5L/340HP *All Lexus's were listed over 200HP *Nissan Altima - opt engine 3.5L/240HP *Nissan Maxima - 3.5L/260HP *Olds. Intrigue - 3.5L/215HP *Subaru Impreza - 2.0L/227HP Not to mention all the other Makes/Models that are Mom and Pop's cars, like some of these listed. Most of the curb weights were between 3000 and 3500lb's with the Subaru Impreza at 2730lb's. I think the standard/base GT Mustang should be over 300HP. Just my thoughts. I could not agree with you more!!! When I bought my GT, I always pictured myself just leaving cars on the freeway, but with the latest trend of giving everyone and their moms 240+ horsepower in their sedans, a lot of cars can give me a run for my money.
If I was driving this mustang in the 80's there would be next to NO competition. Now, though, many cars are just SO quick. Well, a BMW M5 (5.0) produces 394 HP. A Ford 4.6 Cobra produces 320 HP (?). Maybe we could learn something from the Germans?

Really with some very simple mods a new Cobra can run 12's, and a GT deep into the 13's. Even though a lot of the cars you see out there have major hp, they often have another 400-1000lbs of heft to go along with it.
Any way you look at it, 12's are just about as quick as you can get on a street tired vehicle. Sometimes I see people bringing up the price of new cars, I do it myself. When you look at inflation though, there isn't much argument. If my 87GT fully loaded went for $13k in a 1987 model, today at 3.5% inflation it would sell for $21k. There are some things that have been added to the GT since my fox body, too. 4 wheel disc, ABS (Don't like it), Airbags (don't like em), traction control, more powerful engine, a better sound system too. When you say a Mustang should be cheap performance, I look at the base model. About $16k entry. About $9,500 back in the day (87). The entry level car is priced cheaper than almost ALL of it's competitors, and compared to other cars, it's an excellent deal. What else can you get for that? Some very entry level cars. The Mustang has a lot to offer at that price. 190hp V-6 when equipped with a manual that can run low/mid 15's. All for about the same price as a Civic. |

The one thing you forget is the handling of the mustang too. I mean a stock GT will hand one of those big boats it's *** .
Besides, for the price the mustang is an awsome deal for the $$$. ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |
