Wink What's with the turkey?

What is it about turkey that makes you want to take a nap after dinner? Some kind of sedative? Sure seems like it.

Hey everybody have a great Turkey Day and stay cool

Dani:

Turkey does have the makings of a natural sedative in it, an amino acid called tryptophan.
However, tryptophan probably doesn't really cause the 'Thankgiving sleepyness' we all experienced.
It's actually the whole traditional Thanksgiving meal that can produce that after-dinner lethargy.
The meal is usually quite heavy and high in carbohydrates (mashed potatoes, bread, stuffing and pie) and your body is working hard to digest that food. Also, should you drink any alcohol with that dinner, you'll probably be likely to feel it's sedative effect, too.

In any case, don't worry about it, just plan to crash on the couch or in the chair after the meal (that's my plan).

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, everyone!

Well, the potato's and sweet potato's can be linked to an increase in serotonin as well. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that will help you, well, be lazy and sleep. LOL.

That's intresting Unet5302... Seritonin is a chemical in the brain that makes you feel happy. Many people with depression have low seritonin levels. I guess that means that depressed people should eat more potatoes! At the rate I'm going I need about 5,834,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, plus plenty of sugar, cinnamon, and butter. I'll be round and happy!!

Well you see, Butter has milk in it. And Milk does a body good.

Yeah see, I can be smart too.

Drink Coconut Milk if you get tired after Thanksgiving. Can we say naturaul Laxative! If you fall asleep then, man I feel sorry for you when you wake up.

Serotonin is also linked to REM sleep.

Milk is also relatively high in it. Drinking some warm milk before bed actually does have some merit to helping you sleep.
