What's the worst car you've ever owned?
I was just wondering what was the worst car you guys have ever owned, just something you hated, or were embarrassed to be seen in or was unreliable, boring, etc. just something you hated to drive, also i added a poll to see what catergory most people's cars end up in.
I'll start with mine, it was an '85 Honda Prelude. I hated that thing even though i should have appreciated it since it was my first car. I thought it was boring, ugly and i've never been a fan of japanese cars either. Not only that but everyone at my school had one. Luckily i drove it into a ditch before i killed myself in it (small impact and the thing was twisted up like a pretzel). How about you guys? |

DONT EVER, EVER, buy a 2.8L ANYTHING! |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
My first car was an 89 toyota corolla, and that thing was extremely reliable and pretty fun to drive. Little 4cly (I think they are hemi's!, haha) with a 5spd, very smooth. Not the coolest looking thing, but it wasnt designed to be. The only thing that ever went wrong with it was the radiator, which rusted out. (very neat when it exploded, haha) Thinking back, i can never remember giving that thing an oil change.... My worst vehicle would probably be an 87 dodge dakota I had. It was the little 4cly 5spd. It was kinda fun to drive, since I think a part of the suspenion fell off so it had alot of body roll. I had to replace the fuel pump, and when i went to drain the oil for about 2-3 secs it was pure anti-freeze, then for about another 2-3 it was 50/50 anti-freeze and oil. Even though something was wrong with the old beast it did keep running, and I think it still is.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
I had a 1980 Escort with a 1.6L "Hemi" in it. That thing was such a turd, constantly putting clutches and timing belts on it. What a heap.
Ironically, my daily beater now is a 1990 Escort GT and I actually kinda like this one! It does a quarter mile in 17.86 seconds at 76 MPH. (Don't forget your neck brace! LOL) I drove 97 miles the other day to drop off a tranny I sold, when I went to fill her up for the ride home it only took 2.6 gallons!!! Gotta love that. Only problem is, it won't pass ANYTHING except a gas station. hehehehe |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
The worst vehicle I ever owned was my first one. It was a 1982 GMC sierra. Total piece of shyt. It had a 305/350 turbo setup. I absolutely hated changing the spark plugs in it. Damn chevy's and their straight spark plug hole. I had to put two carburetors on it. POS quadrajunk. Man I hate those carbs. It had a bad spider gear in the differential and you could tell when you turned the corners too. Then I had to put a transmission it. When you put it in gear, it sounded like a bunch or marbles in a coffee can. That is the only chevy I ever owned. I won't have another one either. I have since owned 3 ford rangers 86, 87, and 88, 4 mustangs, and a 83 F-150. I still own them all except for the 86 and 87 ranger and only one of them is not running. FORD power!

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
I had a Z24 that I hated,It was hard on fuel,it cut out at 100mph and lots of ignition problems and wheel bearings.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
GM SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
It's a tie for 1st- 95 Formula Firebird LT1: Started to not shift at full or almost full throttle at 78,000 miles. Then it kept getting worse. So I traded it in at a dealer and I found out later the distributor block had blown and every sensor under the hood was gone!!! 96 GMC Sonoma Vortech 4300: Red Antifreeze turned to mud and destroyed the motor at 70,000 miles. Wasn't even due for a change. 2nd may turn out to be my 2003 Ranger. |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
86 Buick Skyhawk 1.8 turbo
NIGHTMARE |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
i have a three way tie...........
I first started out with a 88 mustang (no worries not one of the bad ones) it was my recently passed away bros, then we completely re did it, more info on a different thread. then i owned a 93 ranger danger (probably the best thing i've ever owned) wrecked it a couple times and kept on goin...STILL OWN IT TO THIS DAY then i bought a 89'gt and sold it to my friend (awesome) 32000 on the odometer.......... THEN CAME MY BAD YEARS.... i moved and didnt take the ranger, so i bought a 1984 chevy 2.8 s-10............brown and yellow......gross... broke down at least once a month, then not being smart i bought a 1994 chevy 1500 350.....................blew the engine after 6 months, and i babied it,....................Then thinkin id be nice to the world, i bought a metro, lol ran good but so gay, so i rode my yamaha grizzly onto the top and did a power brake and caved the roof in, soo much for that........now im in seattle with a 98' 4.2 f-150 and a recently bought 87' GT lovin it.......get pics soon |

64 Thunderbird, nothing but one problem after another. They put to much electrical stuff in a car that old. ( had it in late 70's )

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
The worst thing I ever had to drive was a 1980 toyota corrolla. Of course my father only bought wimpy cars like that when I was growing up. To this day I will never ever buy a toyota corrolla ever again. I 'm a proud owner of a black 05 GT Stang now that he is dead and buried
|
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
There is nothing more boring than a toyota camry and corrolla.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
Mine would have to be a 4spd '83 mustang notch 4cyl. Yeah, I have an '83 now but that one is a hatchback. Anyway, this piece of junk cost $450. Good price for a project car. Ugly color. Brown. You know what I'm talking about. Well after weeks and weeks of hard starts and alot of backfiring, the motor sprung an oil leak. Then to make things worse, turns out the car had been stolen. So I was out a mustang and $450 bucks. Never again will I buy a 4cyl. Ever since it has only been 5.0's
|
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
Mine was an '84 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme..
Piece of s**t!! It would stall out everytime, the only way to keep this from happening was to let it warm up, even in the winter!! So, if there was an emergency, there's no way I get there anytime soon, would have to let it warm up 10 minutes to get there!! I hated that car!! Oh! Yeah! and then!! in the winter! if there was a snow storm, the car was like a sled!!! even the wheel would lock into place! so I'd have absolutely no control of it at al!! Crazy!! I'm so happy to be a proud owner of my Mustang '06!! Yeah!! Hopefully that car is in a cemetary somewhere, where it belongs!! :D Have a great day!! |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
What a bunch of whiners..Toyota Corolla, Tempos, why you young bucks had it good...lol. Hell I had a 1972 VW camper, what a POS. The night I bought it, as I was driving home, I was cussing myself. I hated that car the minute I got in it. The bad thing is (actually two bad things). I sold a 67 olds 442 so I could buy it. The second is, I learned how to drive in a VW van....I knew better.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
93 Ford Escort. It wouldn't have been so bad but my wife made me give up my 85 gt that had some work done to it. I went from 300 ponys to 88 and if you put the air on it dropped to 8. Nothing more embarassing then have to turn off the air when a light turns green or your trying to avoid an 18 wheeler running you over trying to get on the expressway.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
1985 Dodge Lancer!
It was my first car too... I wasted wax and armor all and other odds and ends of money on that crap car. It died in my parents drive way after a drive from Orlando to Arizona while moving to Idaho. Electronics problems, K-frame broke, stock radio missing, bald tires... I had it towed to a Jeep dealership in Mesa that night, went back the next day and traded it in for my Jeep. They didn't even try and start it while I was there. Got lucky. |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
I ve exactly got a tie with 3 of my cars I have owned. 80 mercury zephyr wagon(woodgrain sides) same as fairmont I got as a hand me down by the time I got it it had 428,500 mi on it. I put about 36k on it in 2 yrs. In that time I went through 3 trannys and 3 cylinders (1st year.)Then my 2nd car was a 93 sunterd (went through 4 sunterds in 2 1/2 years) everybody kept running in to them and totalling them. and then their was my 3rd car 00 Jetta 2.0 6 O2 sensor in 1 1/2 yrs and all 4 window regulators in 2002 and then started to blow blue smoke badly and traded it in for 12,500 for a freestar.

82 Buick Regal
V6 lost compresion at 76,000 miles Every told me that fox mustangs are terible in the rain, they never drove one of these light wieght cars. The car would hydro plane on a ketchup packet! |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
unquestionably a 1991 honda civic. Tiny little go-kart engine, blowing gaskets, crappy electric infrastructure.
It took me 3 blocks of flooring it to reach 40 MPH. Toward the end, I was grateful every time the car started, and never assumed it would complete a round trip anywhere. How bad was this car. I next bought a 1991 Ford Tempo with 109K, and it was a MASSIVE improvement. Not only will I never buy another honda, but I'll never even watch one of their commercials all the way through. |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
Hondas' are made from the scraps left behind from the Acura assembly line. Another tribute to the Japanese using every part of the animal, thats why Hondas' were always so much more affordable. Today they're built a little better with tightly constructed V6 engines and sport-like suspensions, I hope they can phase-out the 4-Cyllinder engine some day, it'll make V6 and V8 powered cars a little cheaper.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
I've never really owned a bad car. I guess it's because I am particular in what I drive. I can only guess that a person that bought a Yugo back in the 80's must have thought that it was a piece of crap. I feel for that person.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
rf The worst car was a nissan b 210. I bumped my bother-in-laws LTD and my right front quarter panel fell off. The only good thing about the car aws that it was stick and you could push start it. Which I did alot :o :o :o :o

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
Hands down has to be the '88 taurus 3.8. The heater core went bad about 5 min. after I drove it off the used car lot! It drank gas like it was going out of style!
I found out that they were notorious for the trannys going bad so I sold before that happened. Then, about 6 weeks after I sold it, the tranny went out on the poor guy. |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
'87 monte carlo...hands down...frame broke, windows all leaked...no floor...etc
but as stupid as i was back then, i went and got another one!!! |

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
I'm amending mine to be my 1998 Mustang Cobra that i recently got rid of.
In the first year, things were "ok (relative term)" but at about 80,000 miles it fell apart. i bought it with 69,000 miles Problems: It had previously blown the engine (had a reman) popped out of 4th gear, apparently only fix (Technical Service Bulletin) is to replace the main shaft.....so yeah, needed a new T-45 Front brakes warped immediately and brakes squeeled (ford pads) even though there was TONS left (about 8mm when it started) Check engine light; purge valve was faulty, had a bank 1 lean code and O2 sensor code, the catalytic converter(s) plugged shortly after check engine light came on. - So yeah, it just made noise at full throttle and didn't go anywhere. The idle air control valve started to stick Throwout bearing went bad on new clutch installed right before i bought it (when it had blown the engine). Bought a ford replacement clutch kit.....new throwout bearing made noise after a week and began failing(ford bearing). I weight 160 pounds and sit gingerly but the side bolster and leather still wore out The factory CD player failed......new factory CD player failed after a month so i gave up The air conditioning system developed a leak, so no A/C ....I know there's other stuff that pissed me off as well but i don't remember EVERY problem with this pile. Also, i lost tons of money on getting rid of this thing because i had to go to school and this thing was UNDRIVABLE. For reference i drove my 1987 Jeep Cherokee with 252,000 miles down here (I moved to Tucson, Arizona to go to U of A) and all it's needed in 6 years was a new belt, hoses, tune up, trans service.....yeah, maintenence and that's it. I'm never buying another mustang cobra again (it was a 1998) |

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
1983 Buick Regal T-type, turbo, carbed . 3.8 liter.
Complete piece of shit! The car had great looks and rode well, and the interior was nice, but the drivetrain was the biggest GM abortion ever! After 2 motors, 1 turbo and a couple trannies, i swapped it out for a 350 chevy and turbo 350. It was still unreliable, started having all kinds of electrical problems and it would die on me for no reason whenever it felt like it. That was the car that made me swear off GM FOREVER! |
Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
My current winter beater a 05 Pontiac Wave. Luckily it's a lease and in one year I will purchase a Ranger 4x4

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
It was my "between Musatangs" car, a 1983 Ford Fairmont, that I drove for 5 years between 1988 and 1993. The car had been abused. It burned oil so bad that the catalytic converter began to stop up and it caught fire. Well, you know what happened next. I gutted the converter. As time went on, it began to leak everything except gas and antifreeze. It was a rolling environmental hazard. I am surprised that the EPA didn't pursue me!!! Because of the catalytic converter fire, I dubbed the car the "Fried Firemont." However, it did serve a purpose, meaning I didn't have to walk to get places, even though sometimes I wondered if I might have to!!

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
the worst car i ever had was my first. it was a 1988 ford bronco 2. that thing looked like crap and ran half as well. It was black, silver, and bondo. it tapped all the time, and the 2.9L v6 was under powered and probably the worst motor ever built. It had a bad oil pump but i coudln't figure it out because the rockers were well lubricated, and the mechanic i took it to couldn't figure it out until i got stranded on my way to work one day when the engine siezed up. the only good thing about it was it had 4wd and that was a blast in the snow and mud.

Re: What's the worst car you've ever owned?
Good thread. No wonder it's lasted so long.
My worst car was probably an old Rambler American 4-door sedan (white body, blue interior) with fairly low miles on it that we had for about a year when my wife and I were first married. I don't know what we were thinking. Six cylinder, automatic. Slow, unattractive, uncomfortable and basically unreliable. We never took it very far. It was her first car (I taught her how to drive) and she wanted something docile and easy to drive. I wanted something cheap. It had various fairly minor problems but the transmission started acting funky after a year so we sold it before it went, totally. I can't believe we ever had such a dumb car. My wife agrees. I once owned an Oldsmobile convertible that was a nightmare. Looked cool and had some power but handled like a tank and got about 10 MPG. Broke down all the time. Ate water pumps and had a weak radiator. Electrical gremlins, too. I had to sell it for parts after only 3 months when I stupidly burned out the tranny clutches doing doughnuts in the snow. I never got to drive it with the top down. In more recent years I owned a '90 Mustang I bought new. Practically no problems in 15 years. I sold it in 2005 for $3,000. It had given me 125,000 pleasurable miles and I knew it would eventually develop problems like a leaky head gasket or a leaky heater core. No thanks. I sold it to a guy who had some money (owned a small trucking company). He intended to 'restore' it. I never heard from him again - but I hope he did. I had other 'grocery-getter' vehicles over the years that were crappy but they also had high miles, which excuse them, to a point. Most things that went on them were not unexpected. Engines and transmissions always held up. This includes a '87 Plymouth Horizon traded in 1995 with 144,000 miles on the odometer and a 1995 Mazda 626 (4 cylinder) with a bad transmission and 140,0000 miles on the odometer that I traded in 2005. Both were traded on a new car. I got next to nothing for them, which is about what I expected as they both were tired and probably went straight to auction, where they belonged. |
