Who really cares about the post #?
This is a poll for the % of ppl who, don't care, or dislike the post #'s.
|
i never thought it really mattered. always seemed it was more of a "who has less of a life" gauge than anything else :D
|
Oh, thanks a lot!
|
Here is what I think. I like the post count. With it you can figure out who's been around, and generally, who might know their stuff.
On the other hand, post ****** like yourself skew that. It annoys me to see you taking up bandwith with your ridiculous 100, 200, 300, 400 etc post count, then posting for no reason but to raise your post count, time and time again. The post deal has been around for a long time, I remember back in the day when it was a joke that would pop up every couple months, not every couple days  and it wasn't a constant ongoing thing. |

i really dont care myself. if others want to get a plaesure out of it, then let them. hey whatever floats their boat. |

And I guess, I am one of those who HAVE NO LIFE!!!!.......but thats okay, i enjoy it!!!! And personally these boards are how i keep my sanity!!!!! They have helped me make it thru alot of sh**!! They make me laugh when I've had it up to here----> KEEP POSTIN'!!!!!!! ;) TNT |
I like it.
|
i totally agree with Topless.... i come to the boards to laugh, and it always makes me in a better mood, cuz you guys all make me laugh. And you can sometimes carry on intelligent threads with some value... I don't care about the post count.. big deal. Post W*&%ing who cares??? All it does for me is tell me who has been around. Like the gauge thing.
;) |
Hehe...I've been around here for longer than 99% of the people who are now active on the boards, and I haven't broken 1000 yet. I don't know how some of you guys and gals get 1000+ posts in less than a year, but kudos to you. Of course, I reached my current post level on a dial-up. And most of it done on dial-up in the middle of nowhere through free-access servers (remember the days of NetZero and Juno??) that kick you off every 5-10 minutes. I guess it taught me patience and perserverence.
I like the post counter for the same reasons given...it can (but not always) tell you who's been around for a while and who could possibly know what they are talking about. Of course, you could figure that out by looking at the date of registration. --nathan |

Besides, my post or 100, 200, 300, etc. is a trademark of mine. I've done it everything 100 posts, and plan to do it. It's just something I do. Big deal it gives me 1 more post. But it's symbol of me. Like I said. A trademark. |
I like the post counters, but it doesn't really mean anything. It does in someway let you know who has been around the site for a while, but at the same time I just like looking at the registration date. I have been a member for a long time now, but started losing out in the post war to Skyman, Unit, and Rebel79 a long time ago :D!
I am still on the site almost daily; I just don't post much now. |

I realy don't care for it. those that do have alot of posts i look at there registration date and also look at some of there posts to see if they are just building up there post count or actually contribute to the post.

Postcount
The way I look at it,as long as the post has something that someone can walk away from either with a laugh, new info that they may have not known b4, I see no biggie in making posts and have them accumulate over time. ***The posts that annoy me,are the ones that have no purpose, and are only made to raise their post count,*LMAO* wow big deal :D *** |
don't mean diddly
Mustanguy,I agree with your opion.Alot of people post crap just to drive the number up like it really means something. I think the Registered: date has a whole lot more credence ..Just my .02;)
|
I say more power to ya mustangman65_79. It's all good.:D
|
BTW, I just reached 100!!! WOO HOO!!! :D
I'm a Boni Fidy MEMBER now! |
Dosn't mean squat to me. If I am stuck and i need help with my car the last thing that I look at it the post count of the people giving me a hand. I have been here for a while so I know most of the people on this board I can trust.

Thanks Mustangkelly! Congrats on the 100 posts! Quote:

Why not have a more USEFUL "trademark"? Like, being a helpful expert in a car-related field, such as detailing, or audio...not "that annoying dude that wastes posts every 100 or so". I'm glad my PERSONAL SYMBOL isn't so petty. Hell, I'd rather be known as bitchie. Not only that, post counts are not always indicative of being a good board member. I'd MUCH rather talk to someone who makes few worthwhile and meaningful posts as opposed to someone that wastes time and purposefully attempts to garner a higher number. I've been here over a year, and I don't even have 1000 yet. Here's a good idea for more posts...why don't you start a thread asking people for a better and more useful TRADEMARK, insteading of cultivating one yourself. And yes, you are the black sheep for post whoring like I'm the black sheep for bitchy comments. At least I'm actually saying something. |
Belle goes for the 3 pointer.... SWISH!!!!!!! :D

Sheesh....
I guess some people are a little sore on this topic, huh? I don't care what you post. I don't care if it is pointless or meaningless, as long as it is not vile or openly offensive. If it doesn't look worthwhile...I'll not read it. This place is kinda like a library. There's some really great material, and there's some stuff that just wastes your time. It's up to the reader to decide what he/she spends their time reading. What's important or worthwhile to post to you may not mean jack squat to me. To each his own. Now if this was going on in one of the tech boards...that would be a different story...but this is the lounge where all types of discussions are welcome. It's really not that big of a deal to me. Then again, maybe I'm too laid back? --nathan |

That is a good point. It's not like me, or any of the other ppl here go to the Classic mustangs room, or windsor room to talk about BullS... Has anyone ever gone to a resturant, and liked everything they hear there? How about a bar? Or any public place? I would like ti think not. I don't come to this site to be formal all the time. I come to to get away from my job. I'm having mustang withdrawls. I haven't got to work on one in two months now. This may sound weird, but to me it is a big thing. The other day, in the Metro(it's like a small van) the fan for the interior, quit working. I imedently jumped out to help fix it. I know it's a chevy, but I need to work on any kind of vehicle for now. Any, I traced it down to a faulty ground, and fixed it. If we all came here to be formal, then there would be no lounge. No Mercury talking about his current girl problems(or lack of). No PKRWUD taking about his current Mac. Or anyone talking about whats on thier desktop this time. There would only be tech questions, and answers. I belive I'm not the only one, but then this place would be preatty boring. Quote:
As for a trademark, why not make one? U don't get one by walking down the street and get handed one do u? No! So I took it apon myself to make one. As for having a T/M of a bi...., I'd think thats not any better. Quote:
Hey, I'm saying something too... |
your driving me crazy! wait.. i already am!
MUSTANGMAN, you clearly make it difficult for others!....
HOW THE HELL DO YOU COUNT THOSE BLACK DOTS?!!!!! i mean, one second they are white, then they are black, white, black....WTF?!!! |

Also, you seemed to have completely missed the boat on the subject of myself...I was merely implying that even though people that do not know me may think that my opinionated replies are on the hostile side, I am still expressing a complete thought, that was INTENDED to assist (never claimed to be a smooth talker ;)) And no, I still don't see what you are "saying" by your post count threads. As for avoiding threads, I HAVE been avoiding yours. I was told that you mentioned me in the last one, so I thought I'd playfully respond ;). Indeed, I am happy to see that a good amount of people do not care about what drivel is posted, but you DID ask who cared, so I replied. As someone stated eariler, this is a lounge for "discussion", and I was relaying MY opinion that I do not feel a post count thread constitutes a "discussion". But, of course we are ALL entitled to our own opinions, as evidenced by your repeated 100 post threads! As far as I'm concerned, you can post until that computer blows up if it makes you happy, have no doubt about that! :) Heck, post every 50 if you'd like, just sharing my feelings, as you share yours. Belle. |
Quote:
Belle, I am holding nothing aginst u for your opinions, in fact, I welcome it. I know I asked to see who cared, and I knew I was going to get some criticism. I just wanted to know ppl true feeling on this. But I never thought some ppl would care so much about it, hell, it's just a #. |
i gotta agree with josh on this subject, free post! haha # 2 crazy mf on here, i dont know how you beat me srv1, oh yeah you got buddy jesus on your side:D :D :p
|
I don't post just to post, I may have alot of posts but there all legit posts. I don't really care who is ahead of me or who isn't. No real big deal, I don't loose sleep. SRV1 Cross your eyes and then count the dots that always helps. :D As for trademarks, there car is there trademark. I know some people by there car compared to there nickname. I sign out most posts with
§am. |
Ummm...Yeah...I agree with....Someone...Just havent figured out who yet. :D
This is my way of getting a free post (SOrry had to do it). Sure, the number indicates how Chatty someone is, but thats about it. It doesnt indicate the quality of posts, or anything like that, but most of us know who posts what. As for my relationship problem posts. I got a mess load I'm waiting to get the time to post. :( I've been pretty busy with relationships, work, and well.....Relationships and work, not much time to post anything. Okay I'll stop my endless rambling now. |

Heheh I hear that! Belle started off as a joke after I moved down south, and now tons of people (onlne AND off) refer to me as Belle...crazy stuff! I've always known people by their cars too... "that guy with the red 347" or "that hideous green thing with the stroller wing" :D The best was probably the dude I coined "Mustang Tattoo on My Arm"...he is STILL called that to this day hehehe (for obvious reasons!!!) Belle |
Ladies and Gentlemen-
I tend to agree with Kell on this one. I don't use the post count or the registered date to determine my opinions about anyone, but they can be useful when combined. My biggest problem is my memory. There are so many user names that are similar, I often get confused as to who it is that's saying what. Knowing a persons history often helps me when attempting to reply. I don't post to change my number, but I don't really care if others do. I usually just skip those threads. I am glad the number and date are there when I'm not sure who it is that I'm reading, though. Take care, -Chris |
...Someone say free toast ...?
|
Glad to see you're still around induction!
(AKA FREE POST!!!) heh sorry had to jump on the bandwagon. Felt left out. |
I realy dont care about the number of posts anyone has. I am not a very social person and I usualy only post if I think I can help someone with a problem(note my massive post count). I dont care what anyone posts thats your business, but I do enjoy reading all of your posts when I have the spare time. I have gotten lots of usefull advice here and hope to continue to do so.
|
Yup polara7777 I'm still here . I may run but I'll never hide:D I'm sorry you & the rest had to put up with me last week, but thanks.
#2 lol |
I don't really care about the # of post but have gotten real familiar with the folks that have been here awhile, because I'm usted to them I guess.. I looked at the top posters when I got my new cpu and could not believe I was in the top 25 *WOW!!*. I'm in the top 25!!
Belle, I can really relate to your post, though you are a bit rough around the edges(rude at times?). I agree with most of your post but sometimes... LOL:D Its easy to skip over a post if you don't wanna read it so... I skip those that don't interest me. I can't tell you how many times I've read a post and was about to post a response when I see Mr. 5.0 has already said what I was gonna say(Alot is common sense folks..). I let him have allll those, he's good with words and alot more errrrr... 'winded' than I.(How do you find the time to make those long post dude?!?!) I can remember when the board changed and I had a different server, at the time, and forgot my password(changed email address). I changed to Rick when the board changed(in 98) but forgot my password and changed my server, so I changed to rbatson(Rick Batson). I got my first cpu on April 19th of 1997(my birthday) and found this place within 2 weeks(once I figured out 'online' and searched MUSTANG). I've noticed some of the guys here have 1997 member dates... How do I change mine?!?! |
I dont post all that much tell I get layed off of a bit then Well I get Bord of ding Not a thing I have to Make a few post just to survive.....I did not notice I was over 1k tell I thought I was going to look here has I have read most of the other.......
|
rbatson: reply
Rick:
I changed your join date to May, 1997 (same as mine). To answer your question: I find the time to compose 'those long posts' by not watching a lot of TV. I type fast, too. |

Only a select few have received my true wrath unleashed :D, and I don't consider myself ever being truly rude...unless blunt honesty is rude? I think it comes down to personal perception concerning manners :) What is bluntness to one, is belligerence to others. Thanks again for reading my post though :p I've always enjoyed your posts as well! Belle |
Hey, thanks Jim. I think we both started out about the same time as well. I remember thinking 'Mr. 5.0'? Who does this guy think he is calling himself 'Mr. 5.0'?! ROFL. You've lived up to your name, I can say that.
Belle: I was thinking blunt/short when I posted that, sometimes borderline(hence the ?). I get a kick out of your posts and I always know what you're trying to convey (to the point, I must say). :D I've noticed not everyone gets 'the treatment' and just let me say... I wanna stay on your good side :D (Its all fun and games until it happens to you!) |

Honesty and rudeness
Without commenting on any specific member, I would note that there is a very fine line between blunt and rude. Usually, if one avoids name-calling and character assassination and sticks to facts, blunt honesty is fine.
Once words like 'stupid' are used to characterize another's position or comments, you've slid into 'rude territory' and any hope of convincing anyone of anything is pretty well gone, then, as all you'll get back is defensiveness and flaming. Honesty is stating that you disagree with something and demonstrating why, not attacking the other person in some way because they don't agree with you or hold some belief about something that you may find silly or misguided. Using facts, when available, bolsters your argument, of course. Treading carefully is advised when one chooses to be 'blunt' or 'honest' and don't have a thin skin, either, as you'll be expected to accept the same 'bluntness' and 'honesty' that you willingly offer to others. Golden Rule applies, as always. |
Man, how stupid!
Take care, -Chris |
LOL! By no means am I trying to say anything bad about Belle. You probably know that but just incase anyone was getting that idea.. I get a kick out of it because I am not accustom to someone being that 'to the point'. I may get the same point across as someone else, but use a different way of doing it(usually). I grew up in a business and had to deal with customers and learned how to say something without stepping on any toes. In no means do I want anyone to change, I think that is what makes this board so interesting.. different people(who have come to know each other) and different view points. Like I said, I enjoy it:).
You are right though Jim, it is a very fine line.:D |
