Getting over it
Odie pretty much nailed it but it does cut both ways.
Guys are possessive and once they decide a girl (woman) is theirs, they are 100% into the relationship. Women seem to do the same but as Odie said, they act more on impulse and sometimes for superficial reasons.
When something goes wrong or the flame dies down a bit, some women can just quit and walk away but some guys in the same situation seem to take it as a personal failure and a reflection on them as 'a man' and lash out at the woman or others around them, often making fools of themselves in the process while totally driving the woman away forever out of repulsion and fear. Happens a lot.
On the other hand, I've seen many guys totally immersed in a relationship - and the woman equally involved - and then, the guy spots another woman (sexier, cuter, whatever) and BAM! It's over with woman #1 as he chases the next one down the road.
Just depends on the situation. Some guys just want 'The chase', then lose interest when they 'win' the girl and get bored. Some woman just want to prove to themselves they can attract a man and then they lose interest or are never committed to him in the first place. Sometimes, it's just a mutual loss of passion and each blame the other.
Mostly, the men feel that the woman they love is theirs until they say otherwise. Women often feel the same but can move on to another man if rejected without all the drama that some guys go through.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It's all part of life.
