Post Why aren't alot of Mustangs running a turbo set up?

I went for a ride in a Syclone (Cyclone?) and it was pretty d**m fast. I hate to admit it but he could defenitley beat my Mustang. He was telling me how Turbo's are free horse power because they run off of the exhaust. Well that sounds like a good idea to me but how come there aren't alot of Mustangs running turbo's? I have seen one or 2 in magazines but that is about it. Anyone here have one?

I think there are a couple of reasons:

1. COST is pretty huge
2. Only so-many kits available
3. Generate alot of heat
4. Require more up-keep than a supercharger
5. If it isn't tuned right it will hit MADD boost levels thus, killing the engine
6. Lag, exhaust driven and requires time for the exhaust to flow at a quick enough rate to produce any power.
7. Just PLAIN psycho!!
8. I'd love to have one!

Cool

Actually, there are a few of us out here with turbos on our mustangs. Check out my car in the readers' rides section.

I recently removed the Incon Twin Turbo kit from my car and will be installing a larger single turbo from Turbo Technology. (I'm a dealer/installer for both companies)

I have also tuned quite a few turbocharged mustangs at my shop. Lag is a non-issue with a 5.0L engine that already has planty of low end torque. Tuning has become pretty easy for me, so most of the other turbo myths don't really apply once we're done with the installs. One ride in one of our turbo cars and you'll know why...

My personal reasons.

1. $$$
2. Other mods needed ex. cooling system
3. I don't wanna hear the turbo's.

Turbolx- I just checked out your website. You have my dream job man! I would love to own or work at a high performance shop. By the way, great idea with the "Battle of the Winter Beaters"!

As far as reasons for not having a turbo...money

I have a friend who is running 18lbs of boost in a very modded MR2. His car is sick, and when the turbo dumps, "WHOOSH" it is sweet. If turbos were as readily available as superchargers, (and I had money) I'd do it.

depends on which setup you go with. what i meant is things such as lag. and hitting high boost levels if it isn't tuned (maybe if the wastegate actuators failed-which has nothing to do with tuning.)
