World War III?

OMG!

I cannot believe what I am watching on TV. They are calling it the beginning of World War 3!

I am glad I am in Canada, but all my best goes out to all of you Americans!

I hope to God it stops!

As an American I muist say I am truely horrified. I cant believe what has happened. I ask that we all say a prayer for those that have lost thier lives in this tragic accident and those emergency workers and their famillies. Their are a couple of uor beloved members from new york and I hope and pray noone was hurt. I just cant believe any of this. I hope that whoever done this or is responsible dies a slow horrible painful death.

Capri306 09-11-2001 11:50 AM

Thank you for your sympathy, Ian.

I can't tell you guys how distrought, angry.......whatever I am right now. This was outright the most horrifying thing I've ever seen in my young life, and I just pray to God that we as Americans will get through this together. I'll be going down to the Red Cross to donate blood today myself. Let's all say a prayer for those in NYC and Washington, and also those aboard those planes. I hope the man I helped get elected into office will do the right thing now.

Wow......i'm speachless. They said something about 2 planes aside from the ones that crashed that were headed toward Los Angeles or something like that, but i didn't hear that much for it so i think it was just speculation or something. i saw footage of the 2nd plane that hit the 2nd world trade center (which fell down). This is totally messed up! This is the most cowardly way to wage war.

I'm still in shock/disbelief! I've been watching the news almost all day (not much work getting done anywhere today, I'm sure).

Although I'm in Canada, I'm just as outraged as if it happened right here in Toronto.

This kind of cowardly attack should not go unpunished!

The sight of the people in the West Bank rejoicing at the news made me want to throw up. I can't imagine being part of any religion/culture/faction that has such a low regard for human life.

If these suicide attackers think that they're doing something for the glory of Allah, or whatever, they'll find out the hard way when they don't get to meet Allah in the afterlife, but when they arrive at the gates of Hell!

84LX89GT 09-11-2001 04:52 PM

I don't care whether people worship an 8 armed elephant, or a goddam 10 legged goat, it's WRONG to kill innocent people the way they did. Anyone who rejoices at innocent people's death in my opinion is just as bad as the aggressors and should be dealt with almost as severely as the purpetrators of the horrible act. I say find out who did this and DESTROY all of their resources that allow them to function and punish those who help them....i may be harsh, but i'm just so angry to see this happen...grrr........

Kevin Price 09-11-2001 05:00 PM

I am still speachless as well, it makes no sense at all.

I sincerely hope that we can not only join as a nation but that the entire world's governments can join together against this evil. It's cowardly and pathetic.

This is a blatant disregard for human life, life that is not differentiated by the color of our skin or our nationalality. It should be treated as a crime against humanity as a whole. Pray that our world leaders will join together and send a swift and severe punishment to the perepetrators.

Some people call me a heartless ****, and to an extent this is true. I rarely feel any type of sympathy for anyone that does something stupid. However, no one in those buildings, or aircraft, (besides the obvious) deserved any of this.
I know these are merely words charged with the task of bringing some sort of.....of meaning to this chaos. I am a God fearing man, and I believe that NOTHING happens without it being the will of God. Trying to understand, or even accepting this, is more than any one man, or country for that matter, is capable of.

As bad as it is, thank you God for not letting it be worse. Thank you for giving us this challenge, so that we may be stronger as a Nation. I ask only that those affected be blesed with your mercy. And that the one's responible be brought to justice swiftly and promptly. May we all be able to watch as justice is given to them.

But most of all, thank you for letting me learn from this.

Peace.

Coupe Devil 09-11-2001 06:11 PM

We must just be strong and pray for those that have lost thier lives or been hurt. IT makes me physically sick to my stomach that this such an attack has happened. I had always said that I would NEVER join anytype of defense group Army, Navy, Air force, Marines. After today I wish that I would not have felt this way earlier. I wish there was more I could do but there just isnt. I will give blood tommorrow and I ask that all of you do the same. Keep these truly unfrotunate souls in your prayers.

69fastback 09-11-2001 09:15 PM

we won't go to war over this. It is acts of terroism. It is not an attack form another country. We will get the ppl that did this and destroy them. I hope i get my chance. I don't think they will come to korea though.

MiracleMax 09-11-2001 10:51 PM

Could be.

My guess it goes like this.

We retaliate on the terrorist attack, some faction decides its time to go in and turn Israel into a blood stain since we decided to fight back. We go in things esscalate, the middle east polarizes along the two sides or just unites in a unified front against Isreal/US, Pakistan feels diplomatic pressure to join the united front against Israel/US drops a few eggs and leaves Israel glowing for million years, then its on, the west against the east and we decimate the world population All because some dumba$$ decided to attack the world trade center.

Thanks whoever you are

rbatson 09-11-2001 11:52 PM

I don't know if Pakistan will join the group or not, seeing as we helped them against Russia(a mistake?). I think we may be able to salvage the situation. Find those responsible and take care of business. We are definitely at war though, those who harbor bin Laden are definitely the ones we are at war with, Israel will love the US jumping in on thier side. Hopefully we can salvage the situation, it will be tough indeed. Otherwise.. I can see it being the beginning of the end.
My first impression was that "It looks like WWIII to me". It very well may be. If bin laden isn't handed over, I see no way around it. There is no way we can take this and the world is going to see just how bad it can be.

I'm in NY, and yes, all you see on TV and in the news looks alot worse here at ground zero. It is just amazing that something like this can happen anywhere in our country. Te official death counts are still low, but there's no doubt that the #'s are way into the thousands. I know people who were in the building, outside the bldgs, across the street from the bldgs, and some firemen and cops who showed up after the 1st crash and before the 2nd who are still unaccounted for. It is a very sad time for us, as Americans. I pray that all those know and all those you guys/girls know in NY/DC are all ok. Those responsible must pay......and I pray to God that this doesn't ever happen in the U.S. again.

Mr 5 0 09-12-2001 04:21 PM

MiracleMax:

I think your scenerio may be a bit overblown.

We have always been on Israels 'side'.
Where do you think they get their weapons and the money to buy weapons from other countries? America. We send tens of millions of dollars to Israel every year. They depend on us to survive, in a sense, although they have never needed our ground troops and I don't see them asking for them in the near future.

I see a conflagration in the mid-east alright, but frankly, the Israelis are very tough; the state motto is: 'Never Again'. A reminder of what happened in WWII when German Jews were almost exterminated because they had nowhere to go and were even rejected by the U.S. at one time. Jews won't be defeated, enslaved, abused and killed by the millions again.
That was the whole point of the establishment of Israel in 1948. It is the reason Israel fights so hard against enemies and will again. We have been holding them back, so far, but if attacked seriously by their neighbors, Isreal will fight fiercely and I believe they will prevail.
Arab countries are not strong militarily. The 1967 and 1973 mideast war was mostly fought by Egypt against Israel and Egypt lost big-time. The '73 war lasted six days before Egypt surrendered (in effect).

I think that Israel will kick Arab butt all the way to the sea, and then some Arab countries will attempt to launch nuclear weapons at Israel. They will be intercepted and the country of origin will see a barrage of missiles rained down on them but no nukes.
It will be bloody and horrible and there will be much loss of life but it has to happen. The Arab-Israel conflict has been building for a long time. Arafat flatly rejected a wildly beneficial peace offer last year and that was the signal for the Arabs to start to prepare for all-out war. This attack on the U.S. is the opening round, in the hope that it will turn Americans against Israel. No chance. It will turn Americans against Arabs, for sure. Dumb move but not totally unexpected with what has happened in the past with Arab violence against Americans and American soldiers and property.

We need to retaliate quickly and in a way that will make the world's teeth rattle, the blow will be so hard. Will we? I can only hope but I don't think we can hesitate very long or the moment is lost and we are back where we were; vulnerable; a sitting duck.

Without commenting on the catastrophic tragedy that took place, I want to add my two cents. Israel's army is tough...very tough. Yes, they are a small nation, but I have not only seen training tapes of their troops, but have had the pleasure of meeting two Israeli police officers. These men train for an apocolypse. Let the reigns go and they will wreak havoc on their opposers. A nation of people with such a lengthy history of persecution and flat out slaughter, can only become stronger. And in this case, that is only so true.

Well it was just a guess at what might happen if WWIII were to develop. If it does regardless of what happens, the middle east is where its going to be at 5.0

As for a massive retributive strike. I'm against that. I realize that we are the target of alot of hate, but indiscriminate killling just to show the world how tuff the US can be will change us from victim to bad guy. The eyes of the world aren't on us because of percieved weakness, they're looking at how were going to handle the situation. We mobilize and start dropping some eggs on our percieved enemies without just cause and the American way will just stand for so much BS to everybody else. We go in, investigate amd determine who is responsible then say "look, we found the people responsible for the terriorist act. turn them over. If you don't then we'll have to consider this a state sanctrioned act and declare you an enemy of the US and act accordingly."

We might be the only megapower in the world, that doesn't give us liscence to be bullies or to throw our weight around. Thats little better than the jerks who commited the terrorist acts and in the end just keeps the circle of violence running.

And to think that smashing a whole region of people back into the stoneages will prevent this from ever happening again is pure fanatasy. If any thing it will create and promote further opertunity for terrorism.

After whatever retributive measures are taken, the US needs to look at how we defend against this kind of thing and strengthen the net so we can stop the people before they have a chance to act.

being American and living in one of the best democracies in the world is a big responsibility for us and our leaders. It does by nesscity place us at risk and makes things difficult from time to time and unfortunately people are going to pay a high price for what we stand for and what we do when are agenda comes into conflict with another.

The easy thing would be to shut the world out, lash out in an attempt to generate so much fear that nobody would ever think about doing this again, and deport or eliminate anybody who fits the profile, but again thats pretty much what these dinks did to us.

The trade off isn't worth it. Look at the former USSR and even the bulk of the middleast. The former didn't stand the test of time and the latter has no chance of becoming anything more than they are now, a splintered mess unable to actively coperate as a cohesive whole.

As an aside not every person over there is a homicidal maniac. I do have a friend that is an arab and a palastinian to boot. he's been in the US for a good 20 or 30 years and is one of the better people I know and watching TV and reading the paper I am kinda concerend for his well being. The day of the attack a few of my co workers expressed their need to find some "rag heads" and take revenge for what happened. IMO this makes my friend a target for something he wasn't even party to and the possible subject of perscecution simply because of who and what he is.

1965GTO 09-13-2001 12:13 PM

MiracleMax is a perfect example of the type of thinking that will probably prevail before we do anything and the reason we are looked at as p****** by alot of people in other countries. Recent history shows that we will probably do a bombing and then forget about it. As far as Israel we been trying to make peace over there since Carter and are wasting our time. Now would be a good time to let Israel take care of their problem and quit worrying about their enemies. If we go over to another country and attack them because we were attacked we are much better than them because we are only defending ourselves. It would be better than our interfering in a civil war in bosnia or what we did in iraq.

1965GTO 09-13-2001 12:32 PM

Quote by miraclemax:indiscriminate killing just to show the world how tuff the US can be will change us from victim to bad guy. You must be kidding. You are worried about what we might look like to other countries? The ones that love us will still love us as long as we dont bomb them and keep sending them money. The ones that hate us still will and the ones that think we are gullible still will. Who cares? Jimmy Carter was araid we would look like bullies in Iran even though they broke the law and took our embassy. If we would have stormed in there and indiscriminately killed tens of thousands of Iranians at that time and stick to that policy other countries could think what they want about us but they would know what will happen if they mess with us.

09-13-2001 01:34 PM

After the '93 attack, we did nothing, now, we can't afford NOT to do anything. Once, shame on them, twice, shame on us! We have no other choice - we must set an example, a BIG example, that the U.S. is NOT to be f***ked with, especially by some cowardly diaper heads!

MiracleMax:

Let's get this straight: I don't advocate 'dropping some eggs' on Arab countries just because we can. I don't advocate 'massive, indiscriminate' bombing of any kind. You may rest assured, our President will not do so, no matter how tempting that option may be be at the moment....and believe me, it is.

This is not the time for getting mushy and fretting about what 'other countries may think'.
Other countries did not lose thousands of civilians; men, women and children from a terrorist attack last Tuesday. Other countries did not have two of their largest office buildings - filled with people - destroyed or have their defense department headquarters partially destroyed.

The fact is that other countries totally support us in eradicating the menace that these radical Islam terrorists pose and are hoping we can wipe them out and discourage the countries that support and aid them by making the cost of helping terrorists too high to pay and we will do just that, I'm sure.

America is the most generous nation on earth.
We defeated - than practically rebuilt Europe after WWII. We loaned Europe billions that we later forgave. We are the first to send financial and practical aid to countries that suffer earthquakes, floods or other natural diasters. America sends tens of millons overseas every year in foreign aid, only to be swindled and mocked by many of the countries that we help support. We are the good guys and have been for a very long time, but we don't ask for thanks and we take a ton of abuse, even from our own people who often find fault with us and never see the good that is done, every day by the U.S.A.

The fact is that many other countries envy us, fear us and resent us because of our freedom and our material wealth. Too bad.
We are rich mostly because we are free and not weighted down by centuries of class warfare, or caste, or religious warfare, or tribal warfare or worst of all, by oppressive government run by dictators.
This is part of reason the fanatic Muslims resent us and call us 'The Great Satan'.
They are not kidding, even if we may find this term amusing. They hate us partly for our support of Israel but mostly because we exist. They will happily die if it means harming us. This is our enemy. These groups and the countries that make them possible, that give them cover, resources, money, whatever. These countries are our mortal enemy and have been for some time now. They told us so, but we pretended not to notice.
Well, now maybe we'll be forced to notice as we bury the thousands of innocents who came to work at the World Trade Center Tuesday morning with nothing more than the next coffee break on their mind, but now lie dead under tons of rubble, thanks to the determined Islamic terrorists and the countries that helped make this act possible.

And you worry that we'll look like bullies to the rest of the world?

I urge you to stand back and take a realistic look at this situation. Do you think this was the act of a few crazy arabs who sat behind a sand dune and got a wild idea one day, then 'got lucky' made it work? Hell no, it was a very carefully thought out and well-planned act, requiring a lot of time and money and at least 50 people and a large part of it was done right here in the USA.

The rest of the world can pound sand for all I care. They may resent facing the truth but the fact remains that they need the U.S. a helluva lot more than we need them, and they will not oppose us in this war. They know that we are the only country that can defeat these terrorists as we have the weapons, the manpower, the money and hopefully, the will.

Look like bullies? Throw our weight around?

You've been listening to liberal hogwash too long my friend and I suggest that you forget that touchy-feeley Oprah Winfrey stuff when it comes to dealing with a real and present danger to our country, our people.

We are in a war now. No quarter can be given. This will not be the last building destroyed or the only Americans to be killed in this war. We have to understand that and not get off on some endless 'investigation' and have 'hearings' and 'studies'. Bull.
We need clear and precise intelligence information and then we have to go to the source of the problem and eliminate it, even if it means a lot of innocent people die.
When we were at war with Japan and Germany, we didn't worry about just killing Hitler or the Emperor of Japan, we carpet-bombed cities and destroyed whatever stood in our way and whomever stood in our way. That is how a war is fought.

We know who the bad guys are and have known for years. We know where they are and who supports them. Now, we need to go bring this war to them and all those who take to the streets to cheer dead Americans.

You worry that we might 'look like the bad guys' to other nations? Boo hoo.

Today, we look like fools who had our collective asses kicked by a bunch of fanatic, determined terrorists and if we don't strike back with a resounding and devestating counter-attack, we'll look like a pathetic giant. I don't think that will happen.

Time to get our priorities straight and lose this absurd idea that if we are just seen as nice people, no one will hurt us and everyone will like us. That kind of mushy, feminized thinking makes me puke.

We will do what we have to do and we'll do it 100%. We have other option, now.
If by any chance those other countries you worry about offending don't approve, screw them.

MiracleMax 09-13-2001 07:59 PM

ok, we found the people responsible for the terriorist act. turn them over. If you don't then we'll have to consider this a state sanctrioned act and declare you an enemy of the US and act accordingly.

Nobody read this or did you guys just close your eyes at this part.?

the jist of my aurgument is a kill'em all atitude is crap. I don't have a problem with dismantling the infrastructure and the network and eliminating the terrorist, but tell me what do you accomplish by starting at one end of a country and burning every square inch of it until you reach the other side?

I dont see much gain except creating a bunch of martyrs for a future generation.

As far as what the rest of the world thinks, we live in global community and although we are the only megapower. We need to interact with the rest of the world. Go out with disregard for other governments and do just what we want to is a good quick way to change opinion on who we are and what we do. Making it harder for the US to accomplish something like this in the future. Or even inviting action against us, be it economic or otherwise. In short you catch more flys with honey than with vinager.

rbatson 09-13-2001 09:10 PM

Yeah well.. we been kissing *** , with a tear in our eye, since it happened. It seems the rest of the non-terrorist world wants us to handle it, so it doesn't happen to them. Japan, Europe, Russia, some of the middle east... It appears it will be a bigger action than I(for one) expected. Its taking some time to come about but it seems we have some targets and when the time comes it will be a very big action. As I see it, from the news, the targets are Afghan, Lebanon, and Iraq. There may be others..

The rest of the world wants us to take care of business, it seems. I just can't help but wonder who hasn't spoken up against us or who will turn against us. I guess we will see..

1965GTO 09-14-2001 01:09 AM

MiracleMax i did see your statement. I agree with it and alot of what you say. I was just pointing out where i thought you may have been getting a little off course. On another subject. We have always backed Israel and we have always tried to get them to have peace with thier neighbors but it doesn't look like that will ever happen. So we have other options.1)keep backing Israel only tell them next time they are attacked they have our permission and backing in however they chose to handle it.2)Quit backing them and supporting them financially and wash our hands of the middle east.3)Join the other side and tell Arafat we are sorry we didn't understand and back them when they go against Israel.I'll take option #1.As far as Afghanistan and Pakistan, we have Russia and India ready to help destroy either one of them if needed.Pakistan should have been dealt with when they started playing with nukes against the nuclear test ban.

Vector 09-14-2001 01:57 AM

I did not wish to reply because it seems futile amidst the various minds here clouded with rage against people they can't see through the darkness. They have every right to be angry in light of this horrible action against them.

What needs to happen here is what is already going on. Huge investigations which are already leading to the identities and arrests of many many people involved with this act of terrorism. After the world identifies all parties involved, I am absolutley sure nothing short of death will be handed to their entire organisation. Countries found to have supported this through direct financial aid/weapons aid, training, etc. will be delt with like the terrorists themselves. But, and this is a huge but, there must be definative proof of this. Random attacks on various suspected countries to put terror in their hearts, terror of the US, is exactly terrorism. I'm sorry, but that's what it comes down to.

Indeed, you could look within your own borders for people who do not like America. After all, it is your faith in freedom to believe whatever you want that has been attacked here. Do not let this attack destroy that.

As a Canadian, I am saying now that I stand with whatever course of action you make, America. 100%

1965GTO 09-14-2001 02:17 AM

Maybe terrorism is the way to fight terrorism? Nothing else seems to work.

69fastback 09-14-2001 08:22 AM

From a soliders stand point are training has really stepped up in the last couple of days. Everyone always talking about other countries u will be suprised what we are capble of in our own country. It won't go much father than a few bombings for a couple of weeks and that will be it. we have to much support form to many other countries. Nobody is going to defend someone that has done such a cowardly act.
