Real trees are still the way to go,from choosing your own tree chopping it down then bringing it home to decorate

Ya, Guess that explains the PineNeedles in Racies 'sample' from her vet visit today! Didn't water the tree the last 2 weeks...guess it was just a WEE BIT of a fire hazard....But, it was TOO damn big to bag! Now i just gotta figure out how to get the city to pick it up??????

OMG .... thats exactally what i was thinking looking at those pix .... if that tree was dropping needles that badly, it must have been bone dry !!! Thats like having an open tub full of napalm sitting in your living room ! You're lucky your biggest problem was just some needles to clean up ! lol
srv1 is right about stepping on the errant needle too ! hurts like he** , but hes wrong about you being the only one who has that shcit luck .... if you look up shcit luck in the dictionary, you'll find my picture

LOL! YA! I started out doing all this barefooted...it only lasted about an hour and a half, after picking needles out of my feet. Those suckers DONT GIVE when they go thru skin...didn't seem to bother the dogs though, which surprised me. Specially Racie, she kept trying to eat them! yummy!

heh, I was going to ask if you had ever even watered that tree but you already answered that.

Those trees take a lot of water to keep them happy and not dropping needles on everything.

I had a bad experience this year with my tree too. The tree I picked was absolutely infested with ANTS. Thousands of the little buggers were on there, and I didn't know it until a couple of days after I had the tree in the apartment. I had bought a cinnamon bun and put it down near the tree. I turned around to go to the kitchen to get a drink and when I came back they were ALL over the bun, the box, the bad and had a trail already started back to the tree. Sigh. I hope I got rid of them all because I can't stand them... at least I keep a relatively clean apartment and don't have to worry about them getting in to everything.

ugh, if I could only find a decent looking artificial tree for a good price I would consider buying one.

Next year wrap the tree in Hefty extra great big huge trash bags then haul it out. Or you could lay down a big drop cloth, lay the tree on it, and drag it out that way. I went though this once. Getting pine needles out of shag carpet is a major PITA!!!

Actually, 2fastlx is right on....

What we do in our family is put a "special" bag underneath the treeskirt (it has a hole in the bottom to allow access to the stand and watering, and is 8 feet tall fully extended). All you do is take the skirt off, lift the bag up and lie it on it's side, tie the top and bottom off, and vioala! Mess-free removal! Can't remember where we get them. I think my dad has a stash of them.

The key is being able to cover the tree before removing it. That will eliminate most of your mess. You want some needles, though. Such a nice smell...

That or get an artifical (hey! some of them are quite nice nowdays)

my mom had a 12 foot tree this year in her entryway... if you catch it early enough in the season you can find the larger bags... hers said for 15 foot tree this year... but make sure you put it on before you set the tree up... and leave it around the base... man looks like you had quite a mess to clean up there... i don't envy you at all... that's why i'll stick with my 6 foot boxed tree
