josh, if this help's, once when i was at v.a. i talked to a nam vet, who got shot 11 time's :eek: , one took out the motor skill's side of his brain, he said , he couldnt do anything for month's, then one day the other side of his brain took over, he can walk, talk, everything now, so take that as good new's, still praying for matt, cya bud, hang in there, marty.

Well guys I've got some good news:)

First of all the doctors aren't really worried about survival anymore, more like damage now. The doctor also said that there was another part of the brain that could control speach. Also the damage on my little brother's brain was on the left side which is bad because he's right handed...you would rather the damage be on the non-domonate side. But the doctor asked what hand he started using as a baby and it was his left hand not his right, so the left side of his brain isn't completly domanate. Also my sister-in-law side that you could literly see how much better he looked from the 1pm visit to the 5pm visit.

I'd like to thank you guys for you prayers, they're starting to work:) But still keep praying for us.

Great news about Matt. Prayers are answered and miracles do happen.

A slight word of caution; Matt may never be quite 'the same' after a brain trauma of this magnitude but a full recovery is quite possible and I believe that will happen.

Thanks for keeping us informed. We're with you and Matt 100% and the prayers and hopes of a lot of people are going out every day in Matt's behalf. Hang in there.

Well I talked to my mom a few min. ago and the doctor wasn't as optamisc sounding today.....his body temp. has gone down(don't know how much) and the blood supply to his brain is not as much as they thought it was.

It sounds like everything is going in the right direction :D

I really don't know about the deal with his body temp, but if you look at what you and your family were facing just a few days ago, and how things are looking now, I think you would agree that it is looking much better. It sounds like you and the family are really keeping strong and together, this is exactly what you bro needs right now. Good job!!!

As far as the right and left brain things, don't dwell on any limitations your bro MIGHT have, just focus your efforts and thoughts on getting him better.

Just from this site he's getting a lot of positive thoughts and prayers.

Well it looks like the blood supply to some parts of his brain isn't good. The doctors have sceduled a meeting tommrow at noon, where we can sit down with all the doctors and ask questions, exc.

We have also set up a web site for Matt, I should be updated every night, but it still has yesterday's update up. The address is www.mattgressett.com Please sign the message book so that my parents know you are thinking of Matt and them.

Well we got a grim report Fri., but even the doctors were surprized at how much he's improved in the last 2 days. He's localizing pain, and they should take him off the ventalator today. They are still not sure what he will and will not be able to do. We'll just have to see. I'm hoping he will wake up late today, tommrow, or maybe Wed.

There are still a lot of things we don't know. I'd like to ask you all too keep praying for us.

Well I talked to my mom a bit ago and they are doing surgery tommrow to fix his leg and they are going to put his feeding tube into his stomach.

If you tell him to give a thumbs up or hold up 2 fingers he will try, so he hears you.:)

Haven't stopped prayin!!! Hang in there, and make sure you let him know your there for him.

Well he can through surgery fine. They fixed his leg, put a plate in it. He's still pretty well zonked and they have to give him morphine some through the night for pain. He still hasn't come around yet, but he's still pretty well doped up.

He's doing better, but he still has a long way to go, so please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Hey, guys. I'd just like to thank you again for all the prayers, keep em coming.

They put that feeding tube in his stomach today and he looks a lot better. It looks like he's trying to wake up, but he's still all doped up on morphine. Hopefully he will wake up in the next 2 or so days. He should be off the ventilator in the next few days. After they get him off the ventilator and watch him for a bit to make sure everything is ok, they will move him out of the ICU and out onto the floor. They took his leg out to traction today too.:)

So over all he's improving, but still has a long way to go, just keep praying for us guys.

Thanks for the good news on Matt's recovery.

Getting off the vent is a big step. Getting out of the ICU even better. He'll come around and yes, he has a long way to go alright but he'll make it. Matt is young, otherwise healthy and he has a strong support system in the form of his family and friends, including all of us at MW.

Prayers are continuing, of course.

Sounds like slow but steady improvement!!!! Just hang in there, he is miles from where he was. Getting off the ventilator will be a big milestone, as will leaving ICU, but lets just take it one step at a time, he IS IMPROVING. :D

Well he's off the ventalator, and I'm hoping should be out of the ICU in a few days. He's doing ok, but still has a LONG way to go. Thanks for all the prayers guys, keep it up

Matt's out of the ICU and in his own room!:) They are slowly starting to reduce the amount of mophine and other drugs that they are giving him. He's doing better, but please keep us in your prayers.

Well it looks like he got a temp last night.....102. They did a bunch of tests today, gotta see what's wrong and get some anit-biotics in him.

Wednesday, August 21

Matt was moved to a private room today. They removed the stitches from his head and they are in the process of weaning him off the trach. He still has a slight infection but Bev thinks they are getting it under control. When the infection is gone, and when Matt can follow simple commands, the doctor says Matt can start rehab. The doctor told Bev it is going to take time.

No updates since the 21st...
