Your prayers are need. My lil brother in critical condition
At about 12:45 Sat. afternoon, my little brother was in a major accident. He struck a telephone pole at about 50-60mph. It took them an hour to cut him out. But as they put him in the ambulence the gave my dad the thumbs up. We rushed to the hospital and for a while thought he just had a broke leg. But the doctor told us that the left side of his brain was hemoraging. He had to be flown to the hospital in Jackson about 80 mile away. They told us the helecoper was on the way, so we went ahead and left. We beat the mother F'in chopper there, WTF:mad: . It had to fly from Jackson to Merdian then back to Jackson, we were there a good 15min before the chopper. They did surgery for about 2-3 hours....I'm not even sure, it's like time was flying by and standing still at the same time. The doctor came in and told us than he had maybe a 50/50 chance. There is a scale for his type of brain injury 15-3, 15 being the best......he was a 4 when he got there. THe doctor says the next 5 days will be critical as his brain will continue to swell. He will get worst before he gets better......if he gets better. They did a cat scan today and found that some portions of his brain, the ones that control speach and motor skills, were basicly dead. So even if he survives I'm not sure if we'll get our Matt back. I can home this afternoon(Sun) to get some more clothes, plus I just can't stand to see him there. They have him parilized with medication, so he's on a resparator. I feel so sorry for my Dad, he's try to be strong but he's painfully obvious as to how much pain he's in.........I just don't know what to do. I've been to hospitals before and seen people in the beds, but it's never been MY little brother hooked up to all those tubes.
I just don't know what to do.......I having a hard time taking this all in. It's like it's not really happening. We keep hoping for good news but we keep gettin bad and the doctor says the prognosis is poor. I would just like to ask that the prayers of all you MustangWorkers go out to my little brother Matthew as he goes through this ordeal. I guess right now all we can do is pray and wait. Prayin hard, Josh, aka the tireburner:( |
He's in my prayers josh!! I have worked in hospitals and even though you see people there in there bed and all kinds of machines there it never affects you till it's a loved one.
HANG IN THERE MATTHEW |
Josh,
Your Brother and family will be in my prayers I cant say I know how you feel a all but brother you know if you need someone to talk to we are all here for you...Hope He Recovers Nuthin But Love Adam |
:( Sorry to hear that Josh, my prayers are with you and your family.
|
Prayers on the way.
|
Josh,
I'm not the praying type, but I will surely be hoping that he will be fine. Medical science has come a long way, and miracles do happen. No one will ever hope for less than the best for your brother. Hang in there, support is something you'll always get from here, Jonathon Do well Matt, you will be in my thoughts. |
I'll do you one better than prayer, I'll believe. I also worked at a hospital for 4 years (2 in nursing and 2 in X-Ray). While in nursing, most of my pts were either respiratory failure, renal failure, or required telemetry. Most of them became like family because they often came back, and eventually died on my floor (especially the renal pts). Still, I can not even begin to imagine what you and your father must be going through. I'll tell you what I do know, Josh, and that is that you are a very strong and intelligent person, which leads me to believe your father is too. I have no doubt that you will both walk through this much better with support that you share. Keep this in mind, too: regardless of what the CT says, or an MRI, or even their top neurosurgeon, your brother is aware of what is happening, and he knows you both are there for him. Don't be afraid to talk with him, even if he doesn't seem to be able to hear you. He can.
Anyway, you and your family will be in my prayers, and your brothers success will be in my beliefs. All my best, ~Chris |
The best
Josh, I'm hoping and praying for Mathew, you, and your family. Wishing for the best.
Rev |
These things can take time, just hang in there the best you can. I'm sure the Docs are working their magic the best they can.
|
well I've got little update for you, I guess. Yesterday when we went to see him the pressure on his brain was flickering between 10 and 11. 15 and below is normal. Well today the pressure stedily climbed. It was up to 15 when I left a little after 1pm. My older brother just stoped by my g/f's house(where I'm staying tonight) and said that the pressure was 17 and 18 and sometimes up to 20 and that they are expecting the worst tommrow. They are set to relieve the pressure when it gets to 24, they have already tested the drip that will releive the pressure to make sure it will work. I don't really understand all these pressure numbers, I just know that above 15 isn't good, but I don't know just how bad a nuber of 24 is, maybe Chris can help. I guess tommrow will tell the tale. Just keep praying for him guys
Still prayin hard, Josh |
Josh -
I cannot even imagine what you are going through, so I won't try to say too much. Just know that an extra prayer will be sent up tonight for your brother, you, and your family. Hang in there bro! |

Josh,
The meds to keep him in a coma keep the brain from swelling. They want to wean him off those, but that may increase the pressure. So that will continue to be a roller coaster. Your lil bro and family are in my prayers, and check your PM. Take it easy, Mike |
Your brother will be in our prayers. Help your family stay strong, and let Matthew know that you all are there by his side. Good luck, man. Best wishes.:(

Josh:
I'm so sorry to learn of Matt's accident and serious injuries. I've been distracted with some physical problems (surgery) in my own family (wife) plus dealing with some time-consuming MW issues and I managed to miss your post, which I regret. The medical aspects of Matt's case are beyond my expertise, obviously, but you and Matt and your family have the prayers and hopes for recovery from myself and my wife and of course, all of us at Mustang Works. This is so shocking and scary but hold on to your faith and be there for Matt, as we know you all will. Stay in touch as best you can, Josh. We know this is a tough time but you have a lot of friends here and want to know as much as you can give us, as your time permits. God Bless you, Matt and the family at this time. |
man josh, i just got home from indy, oh my god thats awful, man mine & odie's prayers are with matt & your family, i hate hearing this bro, keep me informed & god bless. marty. :(

Hey Josh,
Hope the little bro pulls through, and things turn out better than the information you've been given. There are stories of triumph all the time. As far as his brain swelling, it's a cycling effect. High ICP (intracranial pressure) can cause additional injury, and further swelling. The brain is much like any other tissue on the body. When it's injured, it swells. The difference is it has no place to go because it's contained within a solid shell (skull). An ICP of 24mm is high. Too high. An ICP of 30mm is considered severe brain swelling. The doctors are set to begin relieving pressure at 24mm to attempt to control further damage, and resultant swelling. There is a finite amount of liquid to drain off in the brain, and they don't want to begin relieving if they don't have to. It's not just the ICP they are worried about. The CPP is also very important. It's basically MAP - ICP. It has to do with the (mean aterial pressure) blood pressure, minus the intracranial pressure. If the ICP is elevated, the blood has a hard time being pumped to the brain, and the brain becomes oxygen starved. I hope a little partial explaination will help you. http://www.nda.ox.ac.uk/wfsa/html/u08/u08_013.htm Good luck to your brother, you, and your family. Kell |
Hang in there!!!
Josh:
Many prayers from FL for Matthew & your family. Keep on visiting him & talking to him because your strength will add to his & help him more than you will every know! Take care & keep us updated on his progress. later, Sean |
Hey josh, i'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I don't know what i'd do if my little brother ever got hurt. I lost my uncle to cancer 4 months ago so i know the feeling of helplessness and wondering if he's going to make it. My prayers are with your family and your brother.
|
I am so sorry to hear about your brother. You and your family are in my prayers. Don't underestimate the power of prayer. Also, as difficult as it may be, spend as much time talking to your brother as you can. He can hear you, and he must be pretty scared. Your voice will be reassuring, and will help him pull through.
When my dad was in a coma, the nursing staff told me to talk to him, and when he came out of it, he told me he heard everything, and just knowing I was there made him feel better. Even if its just reading him the paper. Also, talk to your family about your feelings, it may be awkward, but there is strength in family. Again, you and your family are in my prayers. Dave |
Hang in there guy!
It is tough times like these that test our true character. I am a believer in positive energy. Your strength and courage will not only help carry you through this but help your father deal with this to. Being positive despite the situation will help your brother heal, he will feel your energy and love. Be positive. Be strong. You have all of our support. - Cam - |
You're all in our prayers.
|
Fist of all, thanks a TON for all the prayers.
He's doing better IMO. The pressure on his brain has stayed in the low teens for 2 days now, but Sun. it was in the hig 20's and I think was even at 30 for a while. The swelling on this face has gone down and he looks a lot better. They say the pressure isn't as much of a deal as they thought it would be. He is stable. I honestly believe in my heart that he will not die. They said the first 48-72 hours would be the most critical and it's been more than 80 now. Now for some bad news. Well he had 2 blood clots in his brain, on the the front part of the brain and the other on the back part. Both on the left side. They said that the clots stayed there too long(4 hours). And that they cause a brain infartion(sp?)....basicly he's got severe brain damage:(. From what I've heard if Merdian would have had a nerosurgen(we on have one and he was on vacation) that there would have been little to no brain damage. POS town, insurance is so high in MS that all the doctors are leaving:mad: Just keep praying guys. L8ter, Josh, aka the tireburner |
man, josh, im so sorry to hear that but, it could be worse, i really dont know what to say, i'm still praying for matt, you got my # if you want to talk, i feel for you & your family, god bless matt, i'm going to call some friend's, they have a worldwide prayer, line going, i will ask them to put him on it, best wishes for your family, cya, keep us informed. marty.:(

Well I talked to my mom this morning and she said that the doctor had just been there. He's breathing a little on his own even with the parilitic drugs:). He's taking one more extra breath than the resparator. They started to ween him off the parilitic drugs this morning and are going to monitor the pressure in his brain. If he does well they are going to start taking him off some of the the sedation. They had just taken him down for a different type of brain scan when I called, I'll give you a update on what come out there.
As for the brain damage.....doctors know a lot but they don't know every thing, and they've had patients surprize them. Can anybody give me any info on how much they can teach the right side of his brain to do? Can he learn how to talk or walk again? I just want my Matt back, we agravate the snot out of each other, but I love him so much. But through all of this I honesty believe in my heart that God won't allow him to die on us. I'll keep you guys updated at much as I can, but I'm prob. gonna stay when I head down tommrow. I'll prob be down there for 2-4 days, before I come home. Prayin hard, Josh, aka the tireburner |
jeez dude i hope that he gets better.:(
|
That sounds like some good news, and some not so good news. But you know what, he is improving...and doctors are only PRACTICING medicine. Meaning they do not know everything, even the things they tell you as fact may not be. As far as severe brain damage...It may be, but it may not be. You will only know for sure when you know, not when some doctor speculates that he will.
I'm not in the medical industry at all, but I have heard of many wonderful recovery stories, and I am praying that I can add this one to the list!!!!! Keep strong for your family, and most of all for yourself and your brother. Dave |
Josh, man, Im in Streamwood, IL right now and I just got internet access, otherwise, I wouldve replied earlier. I will pray for Matt and his FULL recovery. I hate to hear stuff like this, man. Really sorry for you and your family. Really hope you Matt pulls through this.
|
Thanks guys, I really apreciate all the prayers. Just keep it up. Today they put in a trak(sp?) tube, to reduce the posabilty of infection and phemoina(sp?)
