Exclamation Users Rides / Mustangs of the Internet

I am almost finished with the Users Rides section. I know you're all jumping up and down now! It's been a long wait, but it's almost over. I'm shooting to get this thing online by the end of the week. Hopefully I can meet that goal so its up before I leave for Norwalk.

Any Ways, I will need some hands to test this thing in the next couple days. I would like about 6 people to help in this regard. So, who wants to be the first to post their Stang and test out the system, look for bugs, give reports and feedback, etc..? This things a little more complex then the classifieds application I wrote, so I want several test entries and some private usuage before I put it out to the masses.

Great. I'm trying to get it complete enough to go up in another day or so. It won't be fully what I am envisioning yet, but there will be continual improvements and features as I continue to work on it.

Thanks to everyone that I Emailed and ask to post their Stang to help me test the new Users Rides programming. Mostly everything went well. I chased out a couple bugs, and things seem in order thus far. Of course, any continued feedback, especially on finding any bugs, will be greatly appreciated.

Awesome stable. I know I wasn't one of the volunteers. I hope you don't mind me posting so soon. I made a typo in the post and had to fix it and I found that when you edit the listing, you have to reselect any info that's in a drop down menu. Sorry I've got all those "stock" descriptions. I hope to remedy that soon.

SlowGT, I know. You do have to reset the the drop down menus at this time. I plan to change that next week, but for now I just wanted to get it up and running. Plus, honestly, I got lazy. It's a pain making the drop downs come up on what variable read from you're existing specs is equal to. I could go into why, but I'd start getting technical and spitting out Perl code at you..

Mr 5.0, Yes, I see you did! Although, when I was talking about uploading your pictures, I meant the bigger versions. If you go into your BIO and left click on each picture it will display the bigger version. That's the one you need to save and then upload to your listing. If you want to, you can overwrite the ones you already uploaded with the bigger ones..

Thanks for the positive feedback though, I was definitely burning the midnight oil all week to get this thing done, as you could probably tell by the time stamps on my Emails to you I sent at 4 AM. UGH! I'm wiped, but I know how long everyones been waiting for this to open back up and I wanted to make everyone happy... Plus, I've got a good role going on and I like to keep those a' rol'n!

Yeah, it takes a little bit to fill out that form, now doesn't it.. I call it the "form from hell"...

The good thing is that you only have to do it once, and then just update here and there as you do things to your car. It really breaks things down though and lets everyone see exactly what mods you've done to your car.

Dan:

The system (Users Rides) wouldn't accept the bigger versions of my car photos, so I'll leave it alone, for now.

I went back to change some file info and that worked fine, so I think you've got another success here.

They must have been over the size limit then after all.. That's ok. Maybe I'll put them up for you after I get back from Norwalk. I can compress them a bit more or down size them just a bit.

Dan,
Great job with the new layout, AND the users rides section. I've been wanting to get my car on here for a while now. Best Mustang site on the net!!
By the way, what happened to the sound file when the page loads? I thought that was a nice touch.

Yeah, it is a real nice touch having the killer sound on the main page. However, it is 60K and I have struggled with the having it on or not because of the extra download time to initially load the site. Once your browser has cached the layout graphics and stuff it loads fast, but when a user first hits the site the extra 60k to download on a modem isn't needed on top of everything else..

I was thinking of adding a little sound icon onto the LX logo. If you click it the sound would play.. Would that be cool?

The new section looks great! This is the perfect way to see everyone's ride and to showcase your own. I was wondering if you plan to link it off of the message boards like you did with our profiles and e-mail addresses.

Also I have a question... GT Convertable... where does it go? There is no category specificly listed for it but since there is only one other convertable posted so far I placed my car in it. I will get some pictures posted as soon as I can, what file type and size limits are there?

I must agree on the sound file while loading the page. I am constantly on different computers; school, work, home, or a friends.. so having the added wait of a sound file is definately not something I need (especially at work!!).

Keep up the terrific work.

Yeah, I guess I didn't really break down the convertibles to much on the list, eh? Well, I'll tell you what, I'll do that just for you cad, so just go in and edit your specs and change it. I'll have it changed by tomorrow.
